@ASMR James Fuck yeah! love that. Im tyring to get a 3.0 here for under 180k miles and there between 9k and 15 k depending on milage and the wheels. usually 5 owners and accidents too. That 2.8 price is a steal.
Owed Supras and Mitsubishi 3000 GT's, and now have a beautiful yellow 99 M Roadster......MOST FUN you can have with your clothes on. Had it for 6 years, and live in Minnesota so only driven in the summer. Put 10,000 miles trouble free miles on it. Perfectly matched transmission and motor will put a smile on your face every time you drive it. Now with 70K miles on it still looks and drives like new and I bet I could sell it rignt now and at least break even.
in wikipedia its written about 306: wikipedia: the 306 was widely regarded as the best hohatch of its time (90s) and all magazines and car programs says the same, love this car
Drove a z3, and it was great, but the Toyota MR2 handles better! So does the miata.... But the BMW has a much better power-to-weight ratio. I love roadsters haha. need to look into a TT
MR2 has better turn-in due to low polar moment of inertia but it is twitchy and edgy like the Ferrari in the video. Not quite as 'fun' but more technically rewarding.
THANK YOU!!! I was looking to see this video again for years. Shit, I don't consider myself a gray dino, but oh... manual gearboxes, mechanical LSDs, hydraulic steerings. THOSE WERE DRIVERS' CARS!!!
The funny thing is that these Bmw z3 to this day still outperforms any current day Miata ! At over 300 horsepower these little Z3 M are deliciously evil !
That's 99%, not 100%. One car that immediately comes to mind is the original Renault 5 Le Car, which was mid-engine fwd and sold quite well. One could also go by the argument that while all fwd cars are front-engine (except they're not, as it's been pointed out), not all front-engine cars are fwd. Assuming leaves you with the potential of being wrong. Fully designating a car's powertrain puts it all out there in a factual manner.
I owned that exact Z3 M Roadster in SIlver and have owned and driven several sports cars and its is easily the best handling car I've ever driven! Most of that grip is derived mechanically from superior design as opposed to computer assistance. Just a brilliant and totally analog car! MANUAL ONLY!!!
yes i know all that lol.. read my original comment. my point was 99% of FWD production cars have the engine over the front wheels.. so it makes no sense to say front engine'd fwd.. the logical thing would be to simply just say fwd. i didn't indicate that all front engine'd cars are fwd.. i was just saying basically all fwd's are front engine'd
pcwmsn I have a stock 1994 MX5. Stock suspension, stock sway bars. It wobbles around over any undulations, it unsettles when it’s not supposed to and it grips when you want it to let go a bit. Not a great setup.
My stock '95 Miata has a very fun sporty economy car feel. I could put narrower tires on my '97 2.8 z3 and get all the 'fun' feel of the Miata, and much more, like sports car acceleration! But I would have to modify/upgrade every suspension and powertrain component in my Miata to get the z3 performance. Miata is NOT always the answer. The newer Miatas are still sporty cars, the 2.8, 3.0, and 3.2 z3s and z4s were Sports Cars!
The rally driver's from Volkswagen. Lamborghini, the biggest rival of Ferrari, is owned by VW, as many of you know, although this was likely to be filmed before VW bought Lamborghini.
@@ezicarus8216 i don't care who you are or where you come from, a plus 90 degree drift at that speed in that car is unsuspecting for most people because it certainly does not happen on public roads. If so it's extremely rare.

Several surprises here... I thought the Brits would go for the Poo-joe... Nice and safe and relatively slow... I also thought they bring out the Z3 1.9 4-cylinder...the politically-correct version of the Roadster. Instead, they show up with an M. What's with no car with a diesel lawnmower engine? And they actually tested a Ferrari in this group? Why?

use to have a GTI-6 and loved it loads and now funnily enough i own a Z3 M which is even better, it is an animal!! though i wouldnt wack it down a B-road as fast as the GTI-6 simply because of its unruly back end, loads of power, light rear end on tight road = crash! great fun on the more open twisty roads though ;) never driven an evo 6 but ive always wanted too they look like great fun and a bit of turbo wallop always gives the car a little drama, ferrari's great but way out of my price range
samin2012 with these cars, it’s more about suspension setup and personal preference. The MX5 is lighter, but this means less controllable slides. However, the M Roadster has a wider track and wider tires, which also makes it more prone to snap oversteer. The suspension and the sway bars make a huge difference with these cars, and they can both be tuned to handling perfection. (Oh, and don’t forget about chassis bracing. But not too much, a flexible chassis is a forgiving chassis)
Such a nonsense and misleading review. Think of the target viewer of this show - definitely not a racing driver with a wide track as a playground. Roads are way too narrow for such powerslides. And as much as I like the Z3M, Joe Average does not have the skills to catch the bimmer once it breakes loose like 8n this video.

Also I think its fair to say what translates as thrilling on a wide open airfield is not necessarily what works and is useable on the road. As a road car the evo would shit all over them. And actually the pug is probably the best car in terms of fun per £, with everyday useability. So I dissagree with their verdict.

I've got a Z3M and I couldn't agree more Tiff !!
I LOVE MY Z3M , 20 YEARS OLD THIS MONTH :)
What is this? Top gear but informative and a proper conclusion to the tests? I'm so confused
Boooring, all that matters is POOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER :D

I know but not as fun as seeing Clarkson drifting a Mercedes Brabus around the track ua-cam.com/video/ChwrBqiw7VY/v-deo.html
It's pre-idiot TG :P
It's because it's actual drivers driving, not those apes from TopGear.
So true sir. I have the 3.0i version and every other car I drive just does not match up. I love the z3. Awsome car.
The bimmer almost clipped him in the intro 😂
The Z3 is beautiful
this is one of the best/most entertaining car review videos I have ever seen on youtube! thank you for this post
Biggest regret: Once you have the Z3, it becomes very hard to give it up for anything else.
No not really
I love mine
Probably you never drove any other sport car then.
Biggest regret is not buy one when you get the chance
I do love mine but the subframe….. really lowers its own bar
I drive the S54b32 M coupé with 325hp, its like the roadster only stiffer...it's a great to drive
@Ez Pz good take the worse version, too many people want the coupe anyways 😂
I have 306 GTi in perfect condition and low mileage = car with passion, smiling all the time !
This is the real Top Gear.
R.I.P. Top Gear

How does bolting a turbo on a Miata make it handle better? If anything, it'd be more of a handful.
Where's the part where Tiff Nedell pulls a full 360 while driving the Z3M Roadster ???
Right at the end
Well dude, simply said, because of that 1% everybody says "front engined, fwd" instead of just "fwd" :)
Turn left to go right! Lightning McQueen!
