I was pretty exhausted when I recorded this, but fits the video aesthetic eh? Anyway, who do you think was on the right side of history in the end? Q&A (Will Edit as more questions or contentions come up I think are important to talk about) Q. L didn't fall out of his chair because it confirmed his theories, he was only acting shocked, why did you say otherwise? A. In how to read, Truth 05, "Why does L believe Misa's message about Shinigami?" it describes that it did actually wrap up all of L's theories on the case, and that he was the one figuring everything out while everyone else was freaking out. Q. Why did you say Near was trying to take Light out due to a sense of pride? A. I'm referring to what both Near and Light refer to as "The Battle of Pride" between L and Light being continued. This scan is on the screen as I say it. As a bonus, in the Bonus Near manga chapter, the L Monsters scene is more direct. Where he says he doesn't do things for justice and so on. But the anime version was used simply for aesthetic purposes.
@@lucsonphilogene3105 I read a comment that said canonically, L has low blood sugar. idk if that’s actually true but that would explain why he’s always eating sweets but never gains weight or contracts medical conditions
@@brie_trinh4914 It should be the point because thats what L meant in the episode, no theory of it thats just what it is, and you managed to comment it on a video about L being evil hence why i commented hahah
L was apathetic. I wouldn't call him necessarily evil, he just couldn't care about anything else other than his puzzles. Light was the same but with a God complex and was social af
@@christiantaylor1495 in my opinion, he's still evil. Yes, he solved wars and shit but the way he do it it's through fear, through selfish motivations, he doesn't want peace for the greater good, he wants to bring peace to become a god. But that's not the way to do it, it doesn't matter that there's no longer war or crime, because the greatest menace, it's the one who calls himself a savior. Is like the train thing, he killed a couple scums of society, just to save a lot more of people, but doing so, makes you worse than criminals, some of those criminals had family and a whole life, Light forgot something and that is.. humans are complex, some of those criminals could kill because they needed the money or different reasons etc. It's totally unfair to kill them without questioning. But that just my opinión
Yup. The 2 could've been best friends; that was obvious when Light lost his memory. They were a great team, accomplished much more than L does investigating on his own.
Kind of, but at some point, the premise would fall apart when applying it to someone who is not evil. This is not the case for L. He does a ton of morally ambiguous or outright wrong things supposedly for the greater good. When you apply the lense of evil intent to L, you can easily derive a consistently “evil” character from his own actions.
L’s character and personality is highly in-depth. He gives off vibes that tell the readers and or viewers that there is no individual protagonist in Death Note. Which is special. Till this day, after all these years, I still can’t 100% explain L’s true psychology.
L is not a moral person imo, I think the main reason why he wanted the solve the case was because of his ego not because of justice , I think light was probably better morally at the start if the series but he just went crazy and become a chaotic killer at the end. L would do anything to win the case even things that are injustice just to because of his ego.
@@AM-ct5je L touched the REALLY Grey area of morals and beliefs but Light wasn't afraid to sacrifice his sanity to touch the dark black side of morality
@@AM-ct5je L is like the anime equivalent of House then? I always thought L wasn't all good. I'm not condoning what Light Yagami was doing at the start (especially since I'm generally against the death penalty) but there has to have been more important things L could've devoted his time to than some theoretical vigilante. Sometimes I wonder if Light would've even gone as extreme as he did were it not for pressure from L and company. Maybe without L, Light would've killed a few more criminals, developed a distaste for murder and would've just stopped on his own before anyone even knew what was going on?
"It's not a sense of justice, solving cases is my hobby, just as you like to solve puzzles quickly, so that's why I only take cases that interests me. And I will do anything to solve them, so I'm a cheater who hates to lose." -L in Near Bonus Chapter
@James Lucas Yes, but not to the extend of everyone else. She actually had a selfless motivation for her actions. She did all she did for someone else. Not trying to justify it cause she killed my boy Watari
I think she was still selfish because even though this is what Misa wanted, Rem knew Misa was being kept alive to be a pawn and there was no way of knowing Light would’ve actually kept Misa alive. She knew Light’s intention and she is fool if she thought Misa’s safety was ever guaranteed. Killing someone trying to bring justice for someone who advocates death to all “bad” people (ironic) and kills them, is very selfish. She’d rather see Misa fake happy for a couple of months to only be murdered by Light anyway than to keep L alive to mitigate thousands of senseless deaths. I ended up resenting Rem. She didn’t even try to explain to Misa what Light was doing to her.
yes and no. rem wasn't a total sociopath like ryuk but she didn't care about anyone but misa and even then she ONLY cared about misa is because her friend sacrificed himself for her out of love so it's more to honor him than it is out of actually care. keep in mind that shinigami exist to take lives and that's it so being too selfless is against their very nature because the reason they take lives is simply to add it to their own and nothing else. in a way,all shinigami are created to be selfish and that includes rem.
Here’s the thing: I never saw L as a good person but he wasn’t evil. He’s more of an anti hero than a villain. Much like Deadpool or Venom, they aren’t good but you can’t really say that they’re evil either.
Venom is evil wasn’t until agent venom he became an anti hero L is in no way like either of them he’s more good he actually is just neutral more than anything I wouldn’t say he was an anti hero Bc he did nothing technically illegally he also never wanted to kill Kira just stop him
Thank you. Tell no one, but I'm still alive. I was undercover and had a clone the day i "died". I'm glad I lived to see Kira being brought to justice. If you tell anyone, you'll also be brought to justice.
"It takes a psychopath to catch a psychopath." Reason being is because they think alike so one knows what the other night do. Many that help catch criminals were former criminals themselves.
although I think of L rather as an Aspie. To me it seems Light is mor concerned about the actions of persons, and L about the abstract concepts. He has a much more mathemtical approach, trying to rule out as many possibilities he can. Although psychopaths and Aspies differ in many regards, they might come up to the same solution, but from different paths. Same thing I observered with a friend (me an Aspie and her a psychopath).
I like the end quote with L saying he'd be eaten by the monster and the monster is himself. In dub too, I really liked the dub, both Light and L were really well potrayed, I especially like how creepy L sounded.
The fact that L told Watari to delete all info on the Kira case upon his (or L's death) says a lot about L's mindset. When he says "I am justice" in a way he means If I win then I am right, If I lose then Kira is right. L is playing a game where if he loses then that means that the only person who could stop Kira couldn't, and because Kira is unstoppable then he is a god of death and deserves to have his way.
well in EP 25, just before watari dies he presses a button on his keyboard, after he presses that button it said "all data deletion" on all monitors both in Watari's computer room and in the room where light and L and the rest of the original Kira task force was. Then L says, "I told Watari to make sure that he should erase all information in the event that something were to happen to him." So I guess you guys will have to forgive me for assuming that this would include information on the Kira case.
When I saw the scene in the rain I viewed it as L mocking Light for thinking he was some sort of higher power. I genuinely laughed at the thought honestly. And I must say, after thinking more about L's character and how stoic, focused, intelligent, and astounding he was I began to respect his actions, whether they be morally correct or not. I respect him, even though his pride. I understand what it's like for someone to stubbornly want to be the winner, everyone does. He was someone who was able to accomplish just that by using his vastly superior intellect. Though I could talk about L for hours, I chose to limit my comment to a small paragraph being that it's likely that it will go unread. Oh well, I had fun writing it. XD
It seems your interpretation and my, are quite simliar. Even though, that scene, felt off to me. I thought that scene, wasn't made by the same writer, (for details like obviousness, characters placement before and after the scene and acting out of character and then return to being same the character) so i decided to google and found out, i was actually right.
He was mostly amoral in my read of the character. He really seemed like he was in it more for the thrill of catching criminals for the challenge then any moral reasons
yeah, both the anime and manga. It never seemed like he was trying to be a hero or claim glory. He just wanted to solve puzzles. I think every one is reading to hard into his character. He ended up being obsessed with the light case, cause it was the most complex and hard one. Especially when he suspected his enemy was right next to him. He just wanted the thrill. Every thing else was just his extra level IQ that broke all sense with pure facts.
The best example for that is when L was gonna let Yotsuba commit murders for the benefit of investigation. Meanwhile Light refused that and found a solution to prevent the killings. Light would've been an honest noble detective if he never found the death note 📝 he is Soichiro's son after all.
Is there any reason as to why L can’t be cold, calculating and “slightly evil” while also being goofy and loveable? There are several characters like that and I think he qualifies perfectly. Edit: okay, so I came back here a year later just to let anyone who still cares at this point know I have changed my opinion on L as a character and also on Deathnote as a whole, however, I still think my initial point still stands as it's really all down to personal opinion what you consider to be loveable.
you can love him as character ig, but not as a person. hes not goofy and lovable, because hes basically a sociopath. if you look at the definition of lovable, it says inspiring or deserving of love. clearly, that isn't L, hes a sociopath. you can love him as a character, but hes not lovable.
time traveler Considering L is the worlds greatest detective and has saved countless lives, I would say that he is deserving of love. It doesn’t really matter if he’s a sociopath because he’s still the good guy, even if he’s not doing anything out of the kindness of his own heart.
I don't know there is nothing to unmask and they usually only really solve masked people. In the movies they generally don't solve cases without killing the supernatural being so the real question is can they take Light with the deathnote to easily write down all of the casts names of Scooby Doo before they can solve the case. Kira got the power of Google so there is no way in hell something like the scooby gang could come to Japan and not get murdered immediately as a possible problem. xD
I can’t be the only one who thinks L handled the deaths of others fairly?? Like he never sacrificed another person’s life by killing something purely just for the case, he at least found someone who was going to die regardless.
It’s as Luffy and Zoro themselves said if you’re not willing to die for your dreams and ambitions then your dreams and ambitions are meaningless hence why I dropped Death Note for good and moved onto One Piece instead nowadays.
When “L” meaning “Last One” was pointed out in this video, I looked up protagonist of Death Note. There were multiple main characters that showed up. L, Light, Misa, Teru, etc. But I noticed something. Only one lived. The *Last One.* Near.
@@itsveri2912 which made no sense since she had a life beyond any humans from two of the death gods dying for her. Even the first one brought her lifespan "beyond the natural human life span". misa was around 20 when she would have died, so beyond the natural human lifespan would at least be 100yo, so she at least got 80yo of life. Cut that into quarters(for getting the eyes two times), she should have had about 20 years more of life from her initial death point, she should, unless her name is written in the death note, at least live until age 40. That isnt even including Rem's lifespan. So I think it was either an oversight or Near wrote her name in the deathnote.
Based on L's mannerisms, I think it's very likely that L has aspergers. The similarities between L and Light are highlighted throughout the series, but I see distinct differences between them. Often in real life, to the uninformed observer the obvious symptoms of aspergers can resemble psychopathy, despite the conditions being polar opposites. People with aspergers have low cognitive empathy, yet high amounts of emotional empathy, and low cognitive empathy translates to difficulty expressing or interpreting emotions. Often people with autism must make a conscious effort to express their emotions in a way people understand, though this by no means suggests a lack of emotions internally. In fact, the key difference between a person with aspergers and a psychopath is that the former actually has emotional empathy that exceeds a normal person. This means that though they may have difficulty recognizing what someone is feeling without it being made explicit, when do recognize another person's emotional state state, they empathize with them strongly. I think L is not a person who bothers trying to express what he's feeling throughout most of the series. However, moments such as when one of the task force got killed outside the TV station by Misa, and L's hands started shaking, really stuck out to me. My interpretation was that while Light has very little capacity for self reflection, L is critical of himself. He compares himself to Kira by saying he's also childish and hates to lose. L has flaws, but the the fact that he can aknowledge them makes him wiser than Light. Light would never call himself childish, even though it's evidentally true. L tests people and manipulates even the task force at times, but I do sincerely think he appreciated them. When Aizawa wanted to leave and told L he hated him, I think L really meant it when he said he liked Aizawa. When L silently visited Watari in the middle of the night, having felt his death approaching, it conveyed a sense vulnerability. Though the "Death Note" series isn't much interested in exploring the emotional spectrum of its characters other than in ways that can be exploited the plot, these little flashes are enough to aullude to a character with a lot more emotional depth than Light. Light is a truer example of a sociopath. While some of Light's morals seemed somewhat conventional, such as "committing crime is wrong", his world veiw lacked any nuance or situational distinction. You were either good or evil. I think he assimilated a lot of the motifs of his father's morality without really understanding their substance. There's a distinction between accepting things as gospel and actually thinking about issues on individual basis, and light is so blinded by himself and what he considers the big picture that he doesn't care to think in terms that small at all.
I've always thought this tbh, Light and L were perfect foils of each other. Light was evil, but his actions led to far lower crime rates and had a pretty positive impact on the world. L was good, but his actions were always questionable and even going past the line of what is ethical, using sometimes underhanded tactics to achieve the his goals.
@Sadia Afrin ok mikomi told him but still he said its far too early to do so that means he was planning to do something later on. He was trying to rule the world and make the world work the way he wants. He was even ready to kill his own sister. That's evil. I mean i m fine with him killing murderers and rapists but he was also killing The 'suspects' .while L was risking his life to catch Kira, he risked his kife and went to light and people say ' lind l tailor' L planned his blah blah that ain't true at all when lind l. Tailor died L said " i didn't know that kira could kill people without being present there himself " which explains he didn't expect lind l. Tailor to die
man i would pay BIG MONEY to see a animation universal distortion to force LIGHT and LELOUCH to go against each other. But with LELOUCH'S time zone. with all that technology giving LIGHT a bigger equal plain field. Just imagine the kind of destruction LIGHT would have had against Lelouch. Light would have so much power against them but we have to remember it would really be C2 vs RYUK and i think C2 would defeat LIGHT because ryuk is the kind of person who will stay by you until you are finally defeated. C2 is the one who helps to stick with LELOUCH even when all hell looks like it's about to break loose.
I think Lelouch would win because he wouldn't get so caught up in the one vs one mind match and would have had someone kill L even if L found out he was Kira he wouldn't care the cult of Kira wouldn't let the anyone get to him but it would be amazing to see
Lelouch would be able to beat light as soon as he suspects him of being kira because he could just use his Geass. But light on the other hand would need to know his actual name and to even do that he needs to learn about his royal past which wouldn't be available that easily because I guess the emperor deleted all trace of lelouch's existence.
@@fure745lelouch is't even close to being as smart as light. I would take light over lelouch without their respective powers anyday.give light the geass and he would bring out it's true potential using it in ways lelouch wouldn't even think of. Also people who lelouch defeated in code geass were nowhere as smart as any of the smart death note characters.
I disagree with your perception of L not having emotions. I also disagree with your perception of Light. You're completely right that both of these characters lie and manipulate the truth for their own purposes, but both of their fatal flaw is that they can't keep it straight and even end up lying to themselves. Their rivalry IS a friendship, and they're both too caught up lying to understand the truth for themselves. L brushes this off as a way of manipulating Light, and Light does the same in the opposite way explicitly stating that he doesn't care about L's friendship. The truly paradoxical thing is that if they're always lying, then they must lie to themselves as well. At some point their "game" becomes so complex that they begin to tell "half lies." Half-lies that contain the truth so as to be more believable. There's a great quote from the movie Lawerence of Arabia: "A man who tells lies merely hides the truth, but a man who tells half-lies has forgotten where they put it." Their inability to hold onto the truth while playing this game is what grounds their humanity in what would otherwise make their "perfect" characters truly "divine." But instead they are "only human," since they can't keep it straight. The best example of this is when Light and Misa relinquish the DeathNotes. There is no better example of characters lying to themselves than this, and L descends with Light because he knows that Light upped the stakes. I'm not sure about Near though, its been quite a while since I watched the show, and I don't have evidence to suggest that he follows a different path from L/Light. DeathNote has more in common with Macbeth than it does with Julius Caesar. They don't do what actually needs to be done and are haunted by it--instead they descend into madness (each in their own way), by only telling lies.
I really like that clip at the end where L talks about monsters. It really shows that L and Light aren't so different. In the end, all that mattered was whoever won would be considered "justice".
@@robloxtrolling1907 basically he is saying what Goku said to frieza when he turned super saiyan and before he can finish he gets killed by the death note
L even commented himself that the reason he was able to anticipate Kira’s actions so well is because they think alike. I guess he could have just meant “we’re both smart”, but I never took it to mean anything that simple. Although, I do think L meant it when he said Light was his first friend. Of course L hates Light to a degree, but Light gave L a bigger challenge than anyone ever had, he was exciting, and his mindset was familiar to L in a way he probably didn’t see often, if ever. I think L just defines “friend” a little differently than most people. But I’m sure he felt a sort of kinship with Light that he could conceivably define as friendship.
dude this video is so epic for so many reasons that i cannot even explain to it's entirety for, thank you for taking the time to do this. Best regards.
The creepy thing is that after all what Light has done, we still felt bad for him during his death..it makes me think, what if every villian in an anime was the protagonist? Will we feel bad for them and hate the hero? IDK, but the story left me with so many questions :')
Yes….. I do believe that if the villain was the main protagonist we would feel bad for there death…. In one of the batman movies I totally forgot the name but it was mainly about joker and his story.. I immediately felt sympathy because of the reason why joker became joker… this movie went deeper like the author wanted the viewers to feel sympathy. At the end joker dies and I honestly felt bed. So I kinda do agree!
"Justice is subject to dispute; might is easily recognised and is not disputed. So we cannot give might to justice, because might has gainsaid justice, and has declared that it is she herself who is just. And thus being unable to make what is just strong, we have made what is strong just.'
@@agilraj1145 Preventing people from killing people BY killing people? How the hell is that logical? Light or all the Kiras combined killed much more people all together than regular criminals could ever do.
@@Empire_11I may not be able to convince you, but I will certainly try. In the Death Note universe, there is no afterlife. This was confirmed by both Ryuk in the manga and in the anime with the How to Use it segments. Although in English, the syntax is a bit of. The original Japanese makes it sound more like "The place where humans go after they die; it's Mu.". In this case, it means that they don't go anywhere, because there is nowhere for them to go. The very idea that death is final is integral to the story, as the author made a point to ensure that there was no way to avert the death once it was written in the note. That is also why the Death Erasure from Chapter 0/the original pilot chapter with Taro Kagami was scrapped. "You only get one life, so it's up to you to make the most of it." Is iirc what the author said, albeit with slightly different wording. The Shinigami World is, likewise, a redundant dimension. Ultimately a pointless one at that. Humans die regardless of the Death Note, and regardless of the presence of the Shinigami. There is no rhyme or reason for their existence. Between there being no reason for the existence of Shinigami and that Death is Final in the Death Note Universe, it makes absolutely zero sense for Light to become a Shinigami. Not only does this violate the Death is Final theme, but this also defeats the nihilism inherent in the Shinigami world.
I think L's character was made obvious from the moment he had been introduced. They tell us L is the smartest detective and can solve mostly any case that he takes on, but he only takes in cases which interest him. This imo clearly shows that he had a huge ego and wasn't in it for actually helping justice
This is a very difficult discussion, but to give a very short and incredibly simplified statement of my opinion, L was doing the right thing for the wrong reasons and Light was doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. If I break it down, that's all I see it as.
@@VideoEssayWatcher5484Light literally escalated to killing innocent people and sacrificing his own family members out of his own moral righteousness, effectively becoming the villain rather then being the hero. Which ultimately, yeah, conditioned people yo be good but it was mostly artificial and not out of a genuine want to be good but to not face Kira’s wrath. I wouldn’t call that “getting rid of a good person.”
To be honest I feel that L didn't completely hate light because there was a genuine connection at times between the two. But that's the thing about lies. The best ones always have at least some truth in them.
I think that L reacts the way he does when he hears about the existence of shinigami because he thinks he might be getting himself into an unsolvable case. Almost as if he thinks as if he were a computer. It would be the same reaction if you told a computer to divide by 0.
L is an extremely interesting character the more you break him down. While I do somewhat more so agree with the author’s opinion that L is a more righteous character than Kira, it’s still true that all characters in death note, even L live in a world of gray, as to say things aren’t just black-and-white in terms of morality. Although many of the acts that L commits are rather disturbing, I’d still argue that he puts more ethical thought into his choices than light. For example the prisoner L sacrificed in the beginning of the series, was already up for execution, and if he survived he would’ve been granted freedom. L could’ve used an actor, but instead chose to use someone who was already going to die. I feel as though Light is much more likely to sacrifice innocent people than L is, that being said, If an innocent person did get hurt in the wake of L’s investigation, I hardly doubt he would lose much sleep over it. I do think that near’s motivation of just wanting to solve the case and not so much caring about the ethics of things is similar to L, but I’d also argue that L was more than the cold calculating person near is. People often seem to forget that Near didn’t solve the case alone, it was only through the intervention of Mello that near was able to solve the case. Mello sacrifices himself in order to stop Light and solve the case, which although can still be seen as prideful, it’s also probably one of the most morally selfless things we seen in the series. I bring this up because near and mello are portrayed to be the 2 sides of L. Near Being Logical and Mello being emotional, this is supported by the fact that not only do each of them portray similar quirks to L, Such as mello’s fondness of sweets and Near’s constant fidgeting, but also by the fact that near stated that it took both of them coming together to stand beside L, and even surpass him.
GD Omar even before Light made up that Shinigami rule L was still contempt keeping people with no memories of the Kira case locked in prison, so Seth is right about everything in this video.
I just don't understand one thing: if L already know who was Kira, why he don't just taked the justice with her own hands and killed Kira? I mean, why try to arrest Light? This will take too much time and a lot of people will die (And sorry for my bad english)
@@Niko-kp6pk that's a strange question...L wasn't 100% sure. he had suspicions. besides, killing light without going through procedure would make him a murderer. what if police officers went around killing people who they thought were guilty?
I think L shows a lot of emotion. It can be encapsulated in one scene. He shows visceral sadness and disappointment when he makes the bell analogy, because Light doesn't understand him, and even if he did, he wouldn't admit it. Then he wipes his foot as a gesture of loss and respect because he knows he was beaten and is about to die at the hands of the only man he ever respected as an intellectual, which I do actually believe became a friendship as he got to know a version of Light that wasn't a manipulator. That scenes imagery also conveys a religious context; kissing feet or bowing to them, or cleaning, is a Christian way of showing respect to God. The only "true way" to communicate with possessed Light's ego, which is why it makes him uncomfortable; he sees right through him. The cross and the bells combined with stained glass facilitates this. I don't think the drying scene was an appeal to stay alive. I think it was saying, "I know my actions are going to lead to my death, when I try to test the rule I deem fake." It was resolve and respect trying to be conveyed honestly. "Have you ever once in your life told the truth?" Of course L is a manipulator. The point of the show is moral ambiguity. Edit: They're both radical, but the intended read and watch is, possessed Light is evil, and intellectual extremist L is just. The color palettes are pretty on the nose as well, though that may be a silly connection.
I like to think that L and Light had a relationship similar to Batman and the Joker. They're both enemies and hate each other, but either way they still need each other
I always knew L wasn’t a “good” person, I saw him as a machine, that’s programmed to love only the thrill of completing a puzzle and will do anything to get that thrill. I saw Light as more of a Fallen angel kind of person, he’s reasons and feelings started out innocent enough, he wanted to make the world a better place, but over time the power got to him and he was slowly twisted into a crazy man with a god complex, still in the end a little bit of light shined through from time to time unlike L who never had a hint of actually love or emotions
It's good that L never showed any love or emotions or else would have never reached this far in solving this case. unlike Light's dad who is big burden for Taskforce.
@@VenkyBeast I agree he was a burden but I will say it’s not really his fault he’s a actual stable/normal human unlike L who is a Machine in flesh form and Light who is a self made sociopath I mean if someone said your loved one was possibly a murderer you’d probably dismiss it too out of both trust in your loved one and fear that it could be true
L explained it best himself when he told everyone he is childish and stubborn. He has the moral development of a child with the intellect of a god. I choose to believe he actually did like Light as a friend, but he also was using it to his advantage to 'beat' him. His intellect simply overpowers his emotions and morality, I don't think that means they don't exist.
@@Phenriir You're right, but some criminals are so dangerous and completely irredeemable that it's probably best to put a death sentence on them. Less chances of escape and all, and cheaper too. Compared to Light's methods where he wants to kill every criminals on Earth, this is much better.
With Geass it's way too easy and without it... Tough question. Lelouch has always been my favourite character of all times but I don't think his mind is AS sharp as L's so I'm gonna say no if it's without Geass.
Lelouch is nowhere near as smart as any of the characters in death note. Without geass he won't be able to do shit, with geass is a different story which can be discussed.
Psychopathy is a physical trait first, and a mental disorder second. In that sense, it makes sense that both L and Kira display eerily similar levels of such.
5:00 L waas actually drawn once with a sweat drop. It was in chapter 8 when he realized the letters Kira was writing to him through his victims were to make fun of him. This could mean that this was really the only time L was "stressed out" or "threated" by Kira
I will say: *Only true PSYCHOPATH can understand true SOCIOPATH.* Light with his intellect is taken for psychopath, but true is, he is sociopathic, which moment with Ls 'killing on tv screen' shows best. In the same time, only someone truelly calm and rather...TRUELLY DETOUCHED can be known, highly funcioning...yet total mistery, letting even his LIFE for a sake of game, when Light was TERRIFIED when loosing his.
I'm so glad other people are finally seeing this side of L. I noticed it the first time I watched the physical fight scene, and L says "and eye for an eye". To me, that confirmed that L was absolutely not who he was pretending to be to win the side of the task force, but probably someone who would actually agree with the death penalty (and thus Kira). He's a little shit and I love him. It made me rewatch the entire show from the beginning before I even finished watching it the first time, so that I could pick up on any other little instances of his real personality. SUCH an amazingly written character.
Francesco Lombardi just because L isn’t writing names in the Death Note doesn’t mean that he’s off the hook of murder charges because he’s still assistive of murder.
theory: L never showed himself and only appeared at the ending scene when Light died. Beyond Birthday, the murderer who exactly looked and behaved like L was given one last chance by solving the kira case and suceeding, he wouldnt have to face the death penalty.
I think that L has no moral compass and lives only to use his intellect to solve mysteries. This makes him the perfect opponent for Light because he is never distracted by the question of whether Kira's actions or their outcomes are right or wrong nor can Kira offer him anything to sway him because he desires nothing more than to catch Kira.
all the characters in death note are incredibly complex and well written... you can read them many different ways. as a writer, it's deeply impressive to me. the story is character driven, so it would have flopped if they werent great, really.
He’s not a villain since he had posthumously stoppped Kira. In my opinion, he had or still has some traumatic experience with his excessive training from the orphanage, possibly leading to his weird perverted and criminal-like way. He just fits with the TvTropes of Heroic Jerks/Perverte/Criminals and Grey Zone that would make him an overall Anti-Hero and an Antagonist Hero fighting against the Villain Protagonist Light Yagami is like the Anti-Villain or just a Villain who could be the Protagonist at the same time like in the other tropes with Villains who are Protagonist on countless storylines.
Well, i read l's backstory in whammy's house. I'll be honest, he was like that to begin with. But watari was just his "all in one" butler to him and which probably made him in incapable to live on his and as for his life before the orphanage, I don't know, what happened to him, before the orphanage and also, i'm pretty sure he's not genuine pervert, because his character profile, states that he's asexual.
@@lakshaykochhar9802 i haven't read the backstory but the fact he doesn't know what a hug is and sees it as an act of violence which causes a fight to protect himself, makes me think he came from a pathological family where he was abused as a child.
L regretted when one of the team members died it was when the second kira made an appearance, and killed without a name so L kinda felt really bad think he was abt to cry.
I found this really interesting. I have to get into the death note anime or anime extras you were mentioning. Allot of this stuff I've never heard of. I've only watched the anime itself. Putting everything into perspective, I see where you're coming from with your synopsis.
Bro read the mangas !!! I just finished them and wow. The amount of detail that the anime doesn’t show is incredible. I hated near for killing light but in the manga they really added detail about near and honestly he’s a cool dude. He saw the world as the reality of what it is. He saw Light as a serial killer not a god or even someone worthy to rule the world because of the power they have in there hands he just plain saw light as what he is.. a crazy serial killer but in lights eyes he saw himself as a god, And also it explains more on how near gathered all the evidence on light OOUUU and also the end has a differnt ending… I wasnt even expecting it.
L himself pretty much admits that he's the same type of monster as Kira is and were he to ever encounter one, he'd be consumed by it. It's in one of the Relight films when L is giving a speech about his fear of monsters to his potential successors at the orphanage.
Even tho its another timeline in L change the world,he is ACTUALLY a super fan of misa, and he visits lights funeral and even admits that he was really his friend
L was actually drawn with a sweat mark after he understood that Kira's message about shinigamis and apples were to misguide him. I believe it was his only one in the entire manga. It's interesting how you choose to refer to the source material and the how to read one when it fits your idea, but it's quickly to dismiss the same sources when it doens't. Painting L as the guy that would sacrifice others and beat people while having only the regret of not solving the case at the same time as comparing Light imposition of his ideals through a magical killing weapon and shielding him with "he regreted killing that one dude" is a very impressive feat.
Didn't L only use d3ath row convicts? And if they were to survive, they would be let go. Is that right? They were already on d3ath row, what is the issue?
@@Leonard_Wolf_2056 yes, he only use death row convicted people. That's why the video doesn't make any sense. If you go watch other videos of this guy and actually pay attention to the details he choses to talk and the one he doesn't, it's very clear he prefers Light. Not once we saw L twist his morals like Light did. Light QUICKLY went from killing only criminals to justifying killing anybody If he needed. His actions became more and more cruel and sadistic when it didn't need to be. And by the way, I think death sentences are allowed in Japan, so by the time the masterplan of Light worked, L and the task force had the death note and L quickly solved the case by arranging to test the powers of the note. The fact that ALL the task force got a moral barrier against testing it was very convenient and stupid. Even more stupid is that they saw L literally dying misteriously while wanting to specificly test this rule and nobody gave a thought about if after. Anyway, yeah L might be a worse person because he didn't get enough sweat marks...
I was pretty exhausted when I recorded this, but fits the video aesthetic eh?
Anyway, who do you think was on the right side of history in the end?
Q&A (Will Edit as more questions or contentions come up I think are important to talk about)

Kind of, but at some point, the premise would fall apart when applying it to someone who is not evil. This is not the case for L. Solid point you got there. Can’t really debate about that. But, was just a concept.
You meant that there is no hero of this story. A protagonist is just the main character of the story. Light Yagami is an anti-hero protagonist.
L is not a moral person imo, I think the main reason why he wanted the solve the case was because of his ego not because of justice , I think light was probably better morally at the start if the series but he just went crazy and become a chaotic killer at the end. @James Lucas Yes, but not to the extend of everyone else. She actually had a selfless motivation for her actions. She did all she did for someone else. Not trying to justify it cause she killed my boy Watari
@@unholydiver1095 what about L?
she fell in love so did misa..they both had unselfish intentions in theory

The fact that L told Watari to delete all info on the Kira case upon his (or L's death) says a lot about L's mindset. When he says "I am justice" in a way he means If I win then I am right, If I lose then Kira is right. L is playing a game where if he loses then that means that the only person who could stop Kira couldn't, and because Kira is unstoppable then he is a god of death and deserves to have his way.
wait wut?wht version of death note you watching?
well in EP 25, just before watari dies he presses a button on his keyboard, after he presses that button it said "all data deletion" on all monitors both in Watari's computer room and in the room where light and L and the rest of the original Kira task force was. I understand what it's like for someone to stubbornly want to be the winner, everyone does. yeah, both the anime and manga.
Yeah L alright claims that detective work is just his hobby

Smart people like Light and L get bored easily. That’s why L likes to catch criminals and why Light was so obsessed with the Death Note.

How does one piece have to do with this?
Light made people live by killing criminals. L sent innocent people to death for saving criminals.
I've never thought of L as a "good guy" or have a strong sense of justice but rather a person who has a strong pride on his own knowledge.
When “L” meaning “Last One” was pointed out in this video, I looked up protagonist of Death Note. There were multiple main characters that showed up. L, Light, Misa, Teru, etc. But I noticed something. Only one lived. The *Last One.* Near.
Near being the protagonist would be bleh, considering he showed up right at the end. Near and Mello together were the will of L.
I thought Misa survived.
Misa killed herself at the end because Light died.
Zeniux Misa, man, she really sucks.
This is very well said. I agree.
This is such a good analysis. I'm a guy with Aspergers myself and recognize a lot of those traits in L (even though I'm nothing like him).
Really underrated comment.

Although, I do think L meant it when he said Light was his first friend. Of course L hates Light to a degree, but Light gave L a bigger challenge than anyone ever had, he was exciting, and his mindset was familiar to L in a way he probably didn’t see often, if ever.
This is a very difficult discussion, but to give a very short and incredibly simplified statement of my opinion, L was doing the right thing for the wrong reasons and Light was doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. If I break it down, that's all I see it as.
REAL!!!!
good point
L stopping Kira would probably just lead to even more evil in the long run, so I don’t see how he was doing the right thing
Christian Tompkins that’s another great way of looking at it
GD Omar even before Light made up that Shinigami rule L was still contempt keeping people with no memories of the Kira case locked in prison, so Seth is right about everything in this video.
@@AD-zp4pd you're not making any sense... do you believe in right and wrong or not?
Theres nothing just about the actions L takes from using a dude as bait or the lies and manipulation he uses on others
I like to think that L and Light had a relationship similar to Batman and the Joker. They're both enemies and hate each other, but either way they still need each other
True, kinda explains how light lost his way after L too
I always knew L wasn’t a “good” person, I saw him as a machine, that’s programmed to love only the thrill of completing a puzzle and will do anything to get that thrill.
@@VenkyBeast I agree he was a burden but I will say it’s not really his fault he’s a actual stable/normal human unlike L who is a Machine in flesh form and Light who is a self made sociopath
I mean if someone said your loved one was possibly a murderer you’d probably dismiss it too out of both trust in your loved one and fear that it could be true

Psychopathy is a physical trait first, and a mental disorder second. In that sense, it makes sense that both L and Kira display eerily similar levels of such.

Yup matsuda is the most well written

God damn. L's death was probably one of the most saddest things in all of anime.
L himself pretty much admits that he's the same type of monster as Kira is and were he to ever encounter one, he'd be consumed by it. It's in one of the Relight films when L is giving a speech about his fear of monsters to his potential successors at the orphanage.
