    Hi Michael:
There's a helping key (I don't know if this can be considered a shortcut) that I use quite often & I think it's very useful: If you're using the Eraser Tool & you accidentally erase more than needed, you can press (you can hold it if you want or you can, as soon as you start painting, release it) the ALT or the ALT GR keys & paint over the part you didn't mean to delete & it will bring back the original pixels (You'll see a - (minus) attached to the cursor).
Hope that helps (That's the idea of this, isn't it?).
Thanks & greets from Argentina (Hope it is from England someday)

Thanks for the video. I would add the shortcut to increase and decrease the size of the brush. For my keyboard configuration I have put them in point to increase and comma to decrease.

This is a good shortcut as well. I like the left bracket and right bracket default set up, but whatever works for you and your GIMP!

    Thanks for this!
What I would like to add, is how to find and possibly change short cuts. Don't search under Settings. Instead go for Edit -> Shortcuts. The dialog provides a Search field, which is really helpful due to the huge number of preassigned and potentially possible shortcuts. For example the [ and ] keys are not very useful on non-English keyboards, because you need to press AltGr in addition and they are not easy to reach. To change those, search for "Tool's Size". In my case I changed to the key . and , which are more conveniently located. And btw. the default also has a Shift-[ and and Shift-] to change the size in bigger steps "by 10" (pixels?).
I did not find any way to display or print all currently assigned shortcuts, which would be very useful.

You suggest using spacebar for moving the canvas around. Well if you're scrolling in and out with the mouse wheel just do like I do and use the middle mouse button instead. Does the same thing but with only the mouse hand leaving you others hand for something else. 😉

In ps when I drag an layer with alt key pressed it duplicates that layer to where my mouse drags it. I can't find a way to replicate it in gimp.

Excellent Video, friend I would like you to do a tutorial of the Lucisart effect here on your channel, because it is a technique that I would like to master, I would also like you to do a dodge and burn tutorial with just the computer mouse. Greetings from South America

i hope some of these shortcuts are still the same with me, i have changed some to suit my drawing style, like smudge, erase, ink, made it more easier for me. speaking of the tab to move the layer, it works fine with the mouse, but using the tablet/pen doesnt always work, it gets frustrating sometimes. i hope they fixed the issue with the latest update.

The purpose of shortcuts is to make your workflow quicker and easier, so if you set your own that works too!

If someone is used to working with Photoshop and therefore different shortcuts, which of GIMPS shortcuts would you change to be the same as Photoshops?

All of the menu navigation shortcuts for things that aren't assigned shortcuts -- like Image Scale (Alt i, s). Another one I use a lot is Ctrl+I for Selection Invert.

Thanks for sharing - assigning shortcuts to commonly used adjustments or transformations will definitely save you a lot of time.

Davies, I have been watching your videos for the past 3-4 months and learned a lot about gimp. Your videos have helped me much in knowing about topics like layers, masks (which I couldn't understand earlier). Now I have started designing websites using gimp. Thanks a lot for the nice clear-cut explanation about gimp.
The problem is gimp can't show the styles used once the design work is complete. Only the text layers shows the font style, size and colors used. But if I click on a particular layer to know its style, say drop-shadow, it show the same value even if different drop-shadow style is used for different layers. So, I can't send design files to my client for development. Please help me in this as I can't afford photoshop.

      @DaviesMediaDesign 5 років тому

Hey Emmanual - unfortunately with GIMP you cannot click on a layer and see what effects/styles were used. It will simply display the layer with the effect. Hopefully this will change in the near future. You can export the file to a PSD file if you need to send it to someone using Photoshop. However, some of the data may not directly translate over to Photoshop - though improvements have been made to the compatibility between GIMP and PS.

@@DaviesMediaDesign Many many thanks Davies, for your reply. Your answer prompted me to look for some other software for my design needs. But what perplexes me about GIMP (given the shortcoming) is why it is so popular if developers are really finding it hard to code websites designed in GIMP. Are they importing some plugins to mitigate its shortcomings? What should I do now? Should I continue using gimp or should I try some other free or crack software?
Do you know Davies of any developer or some forum through which I can gain additional information about gimp.
I really like gimp but my worry is if my client does have problem with the exported psd files, what'll I do?

Very dumb, a great hotkey example would have been Shift + R for the rotate tool. Shift + E for eraser etc
