All respect but if you do the pass properly this counter won't work. Bernado Faria is the best example of the most effective technique which addresses this. You don't try to pass while the legs are spread which means you have to high jump over, you walk the leg back down to the center which takes care of this danger.
People will instinctively do as you just mentioned and this move will work ..especially with aggressiveness fast play take over. But I get what ya mean.
I am the black belt who asked the question in this video. I have 100 percent respect for Jean Jacques. The only thing better than his jiu-jitsu is his skill at teaching jiu-jitsu.
Amazing. Principle based teaching long before others. Keep the legs high. Keep his arm between his legs. Turn away from him early to make it harder, but as he comes closer turn into him to roll him over the top. Amazing to see someone finally SHOW the principles in action. Most just talk about principles then don't know how to use them nor show them. JJ does and repeats it exactly enough to internalize it. Amazing teacher. Finally a true master is found.
I used to train with Rigan and Roger Machado, and they’re all great Professors. Rigan and Roger would always talk about “good Jiu Jitsu is not forced… it is not muscle”. Jean Jacques embodies this philosophy. The family is incredible and I think this is why ppl like Chuck Norris, Dan Inosanto and even Keanu Reaves goto them for training. Down to earth and very respectful.🙏🏽
Professor Machado, You my motivation to continue my BJJ JOURNEY I’d like to learn Jiu Jitsu without killing myself in training and constantly getting injured. This is the main problems people giving up BJJ due to injuries and incorrect training program. It absolute pleasure watching you teach.
I have one question: at 4:00 and 5:30, the off balancing you show is dependent on the passer to make an elementary mistake. Once the passer has cleared the knee line, he should walk back to parallell, which changes the angle and reduces the bottom leg's ability to hook, and only then step over. How would you counter that?
Notice where the top guy's arm is. He mentions it later in the video when he talks about keeping the arm in between their knees. Same concept. Look closely at how master Machado subconsciously blocks the arm from coming out And at 5:30 you can see Machado controlling the inner arm
This is so incredible. I came here to learn bjj but what I'm seeing here is a magic show. I can only dream of what it must be like to be taught by a living legend like the grand master Jean Jacques Machado. Thankyou so much for sharing this powerfully educational video.
As a BB.....amazing and yet so obvious. Ive been teaching my students to feel thier opponents energy. Its actually weird because if i demonstrate this ( and I will) it makes sense conceptually but they dont have an intuitive understanding until they perform it and its performed on them
The fact that JJM had an answer IMMEDIATELY in such is absolutely amazing. I understand the concepts more now. Thank you very much.

well said!
awsome boss
So simple yet seem so effective. The face of the black belt that asked the question says it all.. Respect!

I met him a few times and he really has the Sensei energy. And here’s another video that proves it

Jean Jacques teaches Jiu Jitsu, others just do grappling and wrestling.
Wow this is gold! Thank you
At 2:00 watch the bald guy with the beard against the wall. His reaction is absolutely the same as mine.
That’s the real lost Arte suave .

This sweep is awesome. Still working on it myself. Got to ask JJM some questions on it in person!
It's fun to see black belts smiling and discovering things in real time like this.
Putz... sem palavras!
I can not seem to make this work..
"This is the beauty of jiu jitsu." Awesome.
Coisa linda!
I'm very new to bjj, but I cannot wait to try this out!

Wow!!
Jesus everything that JJM teaches is like magic. I say jesus because this is by far and away my favourite pass! Sigh, I think my days are numbered
Insanely good. Best communicator ever. Not everyone can be that good AND explain as well

I feel like JJM has so much knowledge that it constantly gets passed non-verbally to people standing around him.
Thank you very much its a beautiful technique.
Big UP from France ✌️
Its the difference between black belt vs super Mestre 😉😉😉😉
...unless he uses his hand to lower your leg and pass easily
These videos from JJM are a true BJJ treasure.
That’s knowledge right there. X
The Maestro showing the gentle art.
Amazing
