Choosing childcare in France (Paris) felt VERY overwhelming for me. So many choices, so many options not available, so competitive. It felt like A LOT! So i created a video about the things you should know when choosing childcare in France. Vocabulary for the different options, some things to take into account when deciding and some advice from family and friends that I thought was really helpful! Hope you enjoy and find the video helpful! Bisous xx
In the countryside, a lot of mums are "assistante maternelle" when their kids are small in order to say at home for them and yet still get a salary. So in my little village, I had plenty of choice. And, it's really cheap compared to great cities. I have the minimum aid from the CAF and still pay less than 500 euros for a full time care + a part time care (2 children, one going to school) with meals done by the assistante maternelle.
My mom actually did the same thing in the US! I have three sisters close in age so she started an at home daycare, so she could stay home with us and have some income while watching other kids too. Worked out great for her and then she went back to her corporate job when we were older! And the pricing sounds way better than in Paris! I don't know anyone that has full time + part time care for under 500. Sounds great!
I am french, 3 kids. I have donne : assistante maternelle, crèche familiale (it is an assistante maternelle hired by the mairie), garde partagée very long and finally the same nanny just for us which is really the most confortable choice. For the info you get 50% from the cost of the nanny back from the state which makes it cheaper than a crèche privée. Very useful video, it is quite a mess but at least there is a lot of choice.

Sounds like there are a lot more options that even in UK,we have quite a few. Im surprised though that the Nanny doesn't need to be qualified,I personally wouldn't like that option if Im honest. All childcare staff in Scotland are qualified,I don't know about the rest of the UK though. Im a childcare assistant in after school care and we have to be qualified as well,a lot more to it that just looking after kids.
the "assistante maternelle" is qualified. The "nanny" isn't. So if someone wants a qualified childminder, they have the "assistante maternelle" option.

Hai, i’m going to live in french and interested to take a bachelor in early childhood education, does any university or college have this major?? Could u help me hihi
Bonjour, very useful info. I have been in an expat in France for 5 years but don’t have children. However I have just ended up taking a position as an au pair! Change of direction, Covid 19 linked. Anyways....... is it an option used in Paris a lot? Interesting to hear more opinions
Exactly. And if you dare to think something else, they will label you as weirdo. I am more and more convinced that the substance of being a parent in France means having children and then getting rid of them as soon as possible. Just avoid any emotional bonds! Then those French people grow up and rich yet feel unhappy. They go and pay their Lacan psychoanalysts to tell them in very complicated theories what is clear to anyone who just listens to their heart. These kids were stolen their childhood, the possibility of being loved by their parents.

The best daycare in France is the one who has still some place available! ^^
This was SO helpful ! Exactly what I needed, approaching that 6month mark. Out of curiosity - which option dis you choose for your daughter ? 😊
AASSISTANTE MATERNELLE est aussi une aide apportée à l'institutrice en classe maternelle dans toutes les sections A.S.E.M.
Great info!!

Little detail : on this video you say "state-run" about things that are actually run by the local government ("commune").

Grand parents are cheaper :)
...Ahaha! Cry and cry and cry...
But so true no? Everybody I know went to the marie and cried to get a spot in Creche. It's crazy!
Unintentionally Frenchified ...Oui, c’est bien vrai et il faut aussi râler!

Putting a child to an institute like that even before age 3 is just awful in general. I despise this modern world so much.
Lets thank capitalism

Cry and cry again. Welfare state, very French and awful.
I don't necessarily agree it's awful, but crying sure helps when getting the crèche!
