Outstanding violist in everything they play, it seems. As a cellist myself, I appreciate that! No quartet is good without an outstanding violist! You guys are all awesome.
I love the video format with panorama of the entire quartet all the time. My quartet (high level and performing quartet) consisting of three Ph.D lady researchers, two medical researchers (also has a violin degree), one economist, and me, a retired intelligence analyst. We are just starting this work together (we've all played it elsewhere, me on the two violin parts .) For people who actually play this format is superior for us to observe bowings, even fingerings to some extent and far more useful than looking up someone's nostrils. I also love the "living room" setting. We rehearse at my house, play for free at churches, civic events and senior centers. We all are in a local symphony. While I'm primarily a violinist, I've moved to viola from violin 2 when we lost our original violist [the classic "fourth for bridge", so I am observing Milena with great interest. I can and have played viola at a symphonic level, but not quite as "natively fluent" as I am on violin.
Bravi. An astonishingly mature and sensitive reading of the first movement of one of the greatest of string quartets. The Dover Quartet already demonstrates not only technical mastery, but moreover, a preternaturally keen awareness of balance and harmony, volume and contrast. To say they are "up and coming" is banal. They have already arrived, with an Avery Fisher Career Grant in March, and a Cleveland Quartet Award. These phenomenally gifted string players have a seamless and remarkable awareness of each other - they remind me a lot of the Cleveland and Guarneri Quartets, and they are just beginning their greatness. The future of chamber, now in part in their hands, is bright indeed. An die Musik !
Fantastic chamber music and ensemble playing at the highest level. Their tuning is warm and rich and they bring out the immense passion and joy in the music. Truly amazing to watch and hear.
It is such a pity that the marvellous Dover Quartet's performance of the American Quartet on UA-cam is split between different locations and the third movement is missing altogether.
She's the best violist for the American quartet I'd say. Although she uses weird fingerings(I wanna see her playing with the usual fingering), has a beautiful tone and internal tempo, which makes her solos very impressive. And also this quartet is well-integrated. Beautiful work!!❤
Already watched this in 2016 and still coming back every once in a while to get overwhelmed and touched in the best way by this great piece and beautiful and strong, performance, again and again! Thank you very much for this invaluable amazing work!
Dover Quartet, you are just amazing..., your performance of this beautiful piece is far beyond the best. You are just absolutely great. Thank you so much for sharing your huge talent.
You guys are simply fabulous!....and Milena is spectacular!....you are all in a league of your own. Keep it up! You are also in our prayers....receive the Aaronic Blessing!
Expertly performed. Pristine and well-balanced audio recording as well. Not too much tremolo, either, as I've heard other performances of this piece where the strings sounded as if they were whining. Thanks for posting this gem!
I saw Yonatan Gat and Greg Saunier of Deerhoof play the entire American Quartet piece at a basement show I'm Philly. Turned me on to Dvorak's music. Really enjoyed this group's performance!
Gorgeous! I hope you guys play the Borodin String Quartet no. 2, particularly the nocturne/notturno. It's one of my favorite if not my favorite quartet pieces.
4:46 why was that cello solo single-handedly the most majestic thing i’ve ever heard in my entire life
3:46 the second violin going ham is my favorite part lol
Yes! This quartet is so satisfying for all parts.
He just is so cool tho!

This was beautifully preformed, the viola sounded really great!
Lin Lin is shocked

For a viola to sound that good you have to practice 100 hrs a day. Huge props
Dmichoacan probably more lmao
Ikr, maybe Twoset have toned down their hate to Viola?
Perhaps we've got a new Ally?
Besides, the Viola is a gorgeous instrument
First 30 seconds!!! The viola backed by that pizzicato on cello!! Literal chills
I have a week to learn this song for a chamber music camp... thank god for this video where I can actually hear the cello.
how'd it go?
Love that the viola gets a good part and you can hear the viola
3:11 I just love the Viola part
same
I just adore the cellist and violist. The sound they make has such beauty and emotion. ❤
All string players are crazy. Cellists are manic depressives.
The second violinist is so good!
Imagine the huge smiles on their faces after the video ended, that was truly beautiful.
Such beautiful tone. perfect intonation.
that was the best Viola solo i ever heard at the opening
BRAVO!!!
i second this!!
This new quartet is a spectacular gift to all lovers of chamber music! May they stay together, and play for us a long time.
Oooh that viola melted my soul.
Love the violist in this ensemble! Definitely one of my most favorite quartets, love the way Dvorak writes for viola and cello specifically
Love it!!

I don't know how, but this man captured the very essence of 19th century America.
Absolutely beautiful. The four of you have an incredible future together.
That is what it is supposed to sound like. Others can only imitate you.
Very beautiful! Viola's power!! From France ;)
This is the best recording of this piece by far.
Everytime I listen to this piece it reminds me of an old western book I read as a kid; Caddie Woodlawn.
I could listen to this all day. How delightful this piece is preformed.

Wow! I am a cellist and this movement is so awesome. Also the first time I have heard this piece.
violist be grinning so hard at the beginning lmao
Sounds like an awesome viola. And Dvorak gave the viola some solid and lovely music in this piece.
The composition and performance is awe inspiring.
I am not a musician, but I really loved your quartet playing this. Thank you.

Don't tell @TwoSetViolin, but the viola killed it.
