The area covered by octagonal deadhouses is roughly the same as the part of Ontario where the Children of Peace settled. They came from Pennsylvania and had a somewhat mystical faith derived from, but separate from, Quakerism. The Children of Peace were very keen on symbolism, especially in architecture. They're best-known structure is the Sharon Temple, built by Ebenezer Doan. It incorporated lots of geometrical and numerical symbolism. However, the temple and the meeting houses they built were not octagonal. But it shows you that in spiritual matters affecting life and death, a special shape in a building is likely to have had a consciously designed meaning. There was a complex web of religious ideas floating around Upper Canada in the first half of the 19th century. We now shove death, funerals and the treatment of bodies to the edge of our thoughts, but for Canada's pioneer settlers, the treatment of bodies was VERY high in the list of important cultural things, and not something to be lightheartedly played around with. It seems highly unlikely to me that these odd buildings were just built as a random local fashion. It's obvious that great care was taken to build these structures. They had to intend some symbolic statement by building them that way. It's possible that the symbolism was obvious to everyone at the time, and thus not necessary to comment on or explain.

Fascinating, thank you for that! I am very intrigued by the Sharon temple and will be looking it up shortly.

Just imagine for a moment that all of these buildings which were built at a time supposedly before, electricity, heavy industrial equipment, were in fact by a pre-existant civilization. ... Then suppose, that this is not a fantasy, but a plausible explanation.
Realize that A.i. can generate an entire library's worth of fabricated history within an instant. Suppose for a moment that nothing is new under the sun and ancient history was a time of great technological achievement. If you can explore this little excercise, then you'll have a better explanation than what is presented in these videos. Much of our history is a fictional cover-story. Sorry if this might bother you.
