    A tough district attorney has been cleaning up the town, and has already imprisoned twelve dangerous criminals. I enjoy these old black
    and white "B" movies so much. Perhaps it's my age after I was one year old when this film was made, 1937.

    Surprising good 'whodunit' with an excellent script, and a very nice chemestry between the reporter and his secretary that adds to the quality of the film. Well, it seems that old Pizzaflix treasures are currently notified to me and that's a treat !

    "You got that poison dart found in his neck"
    "Sure...right here" as he pulls it out of his top desk drawer.
    "How about the contents of his pockets."
    "Sure...right here." also in his drawer.
    Like, isn't that where you're supposed to keep sensitive evidence.

    • @graemesmith6721
      @graemesmith6721 Рік тому

      No, it's supposed to be kept in an evidence locker. Of course, if it was the LAPD in the OJ Simpson case, they'd keep the evidence in the back of a pick-up for two days with nobody watching it, so the defense attorney could say it could have been tampered with and move that it all be ruled inadmissible.

    I often wonder: Exactly where did 1930's & 1940's Hollywood's obsession with reporters in crime mysteries come from?

    • @billyrichards8834

      From the gangster era of the 1920's.

      Radio & TV were still in the future. Newspapers and word-of-mouth were the means of mass communication. And journalists-----no, I don 't mean the blonde bimbos who present 'the news' these days-----went out and got what the public would then see in print. Those days are gone. These days, we watch the one-eyed monster and are expected to believe everything we see and hear.

    Did Robert Homans ever play anything but a cop? He was a beat cop in 'X Marks the Spot', a Sheriff in 'Red River Valley', a Lt. Inspector in 'Rogue's Gallery', and here he's a police Lt. again. He always came across as better than many of the police we have today.

    Boy, that District Attorney sure knows how to create a slander suit simply by getting on the air and accusing local prominent folks of all being criminals. At 51:00. So where is all the murder evidence being "stored?" Why in the cop's desk, of course!

    I’m reading the comments and I guess I’m the odd one out. This was the most depressing movie. The man that showered love and attention on his girl gets killed. The reporter who takes his secretary for granted, never takes her on even a proper date, just announced on air they are getting married? Doesn’t bother to ask? Robs her of even a proposal? 👎🤨

    I'm glad Weldon Heyburn finally got a starring role. He was a great support player for years, but never quite made the top ranks. The rest of the support cast was almost perfect. I especially liked Matty Fain, the gangster. He seemed 100% authentic. The only loser, in my opinion, was Inez Courtney. Her over the top gestures would have been more appropriate in a silent movie.
