I was sure the giant puffball was going to be revealed as a joke, like it was a frozen turkey or a volleyball. But, jaysus, it was a real mushroom! The size of it!
Amazing I've never seen a Giant Puffball.. Lots of mushrooms on the occasional year a farmer spread lime on his fields, none at all nowadays as lime is seldom used..
The lime is used as a fertiliser and changed the PH of the soil aswell, in some cases it might make mushrooms. But generally fields which have mushrooms growing in them are poor quality fields, farmers have changed the drainage and added fertiliser to fields to suit for cows and its rare to see mushrooms in a lot of fields where there might have been in the past.
If a puffball like that even managed to grow somewhere nowadays it would either be snaffled up by someone who knows what it is OR MORE LIKELY some idiot would destroy it by booting it like a ball!
Interesting guy, did a series about Irish waterways and canals back in the 90's, fascinating series.
Love these old videos 🎯

Yes huge I've never seen it like that particular size, and I wonder how long it took to grow.
I identify as a Giant Puffball.
I think the Lime fixes the Nitrogen in the soil.

You can eat any mushroom that grows in Ireland, but some of them you can only eat once
And that's why you never see Giant Puffballs...
