    To bring that team to the NFC championship in two years has to be the biggest accomplishment in NFL history it took my team 21 years to make it to the playoffs WHO DAT !!!

      METAL HEAD True. The legacy of the McKay era is 0-26, when the fact that they went to 1 win away from a Super Bowl only one full season removed the longest losing streak/WORST ever team (long before free agency) is one of the most impressive accomplishments in league history.

      Big Sky Blue Of the 45 players on the 1979 Buccaneers roster that fell one game short of the Super Bowl, 23 of those players were part of those teams that went 0-26 in their first two year years of existence.

    The 1977 Buccaneers were a top 10 ranked defense giving up only 15.9 points a game despite its pitiful offense that scored only 103 points in 14 games, with 50 of those points in the last two games they won that season after losing their first 26 games of their existence.

    • @JeffWaynee
      @JeffWaynee 2 роки тому +1

      Yes, and the 77 Bucs had an even worse offence than 76.

      In their first 12 games of 1977, the bucs scored 53 points. For comparison, the cowboys last year scored 54 in 1 game against the Colts. They were shut out an unbelievable 6 times in that span. They scored 50 points in their last 2 games, but 3 of those tds were defensive. The bucs scored a grand total of 7 offensive tds in 1977. Even if you add defensive scores, you only get 11 total touchdowns. Absolutely pathetic. The 2006 raiders scored 12 offensive tds, and their offense was also historically inept

    I think john mckay was a D level coach. Not an F, or even a D-, because he had to work with an expansion roster, that lacked talent, and the incompetent hugh culverhouse as his owner. He made it to the playoffs 3 times in a 4 year span, but yeah, when the bucs were bad, they were disgusting. Still, i don't think he's the absolute worst. Leeman Bennett, ray perkins, richard williamson, sam wyche. They were all much worse in tampa than mckay. The bucs didn't get a real coach until tony dungy, who i still think is the best coach in team history
