- It's everything you need to know about managing one of our most common deer, in this episode of #FieldsportsBritain. Fallow deer were released all over England to provide sport for kings and noblemen. Now it is up to deer managers to ensure the herds stay healthy. In Part 1 of 'A Year in the Life of Fallow Deer', we join deerstalker Phiz Phizacklea to find out how he does it, and to learn more about this animal. More parts of this story over the next year. That's not all: Ben Husthwaite concludes his series on shooting straight with advice on springing teal, there is David on the News Stump, Hunting UA-cam and we announce the winners of two recent competitions: a superb Percussion shooting suit and a fabulous Harkila rucksack.

Good show old chap. Loved the Fallow deer bit as thats what I hunt locally. Really appreciate whoever it was that brought Fallow deer to NZ !!
Funnily enough as part of the series we interview Fred Marshall who pioneered live deer exports and introduced fallow to many corners of the globe including New Zealand for commercial deer farms..he was also involved in returning Pere Davids to China.
Great video again chaps, went out tonight after the rabbits and the fog dropped, so match abandonded. How good to come home and watch this, ATB.
Another excellent program Thank you
Grate show yet again guys. Well done
Hi there,
Ones again a great video, thanks for the trip, thumbs up and best regards to all, from Down under, Tony.
+waikarimoana Cheers Tony - I always look forward to what the Kiwis and Aussies have said about our show when I wake up on Thursdays. If we make it past you lot with a thumbs-up, we're doing OK. / Charlie
Good day Charlie,
It is always a great show and very enjoyable to watch, have a good one till next week when we see you next, regards, Tony.
This was a surprise! Darren took me out for my first stalk a few years ago. Nice bloke and I got a very good Fallow Buck out of it! As I remember it he used a Tikka 6.5 swede and a S&B PM2 back then and it was the first time I'd used optics of that quality!
What an exceptionally inspiring video !
Practice on the range is important, before the hunt, well done,
some of those 100 yard groups were horrendous -- its 2017 where rifles shoot 1/4MOA ... not 1.5 MOA
Banning the bolt action 50 cal there are over 65 million people in the UK and and can't rember what you said charlie 70ish licences to hold .50 cal. 98% of gun crime is illegal guns from Europe pistols semi rifles and stolen shotguns etc I don't ever recall anyone being killed with a 50cal in the uk. Let's look at in simple terms you would need to be like the hulk to run around firing it from the shoulder because of the weight. What criminals did you know that could afford the ammo if it was even avalible. One single .50 cal hornady a max bullet just the bullet no case primer or powder just the bullet is around £10 each. Get a grip if someone wanted to cause harm a human a .17hmr is more than enough and more practical to carry fire etc. Give the 50 guys a break they have probably spent more on there rifles than most people spend on cars.
Standard government procedure, ban people from owning said firearm because as we all know its only legally owned firearms that are involved in crimes! Worked so well with handguns!! >.>
Also don't forget about people who will get their "rapid fire" Mars rifles banned.
Dont use the edge of the knife to scrape the firesteel!
Thought that glider was going to get it!
Banning 50.cal, I can not see why, The gun owners as us all have a legitimate reason for owning a gun, Having satisfied your local firearms officer with background checks, Gun and ammo security, Whats the problem ? What calibres next
i wonder if it ever happens that people want to get into deer hunting then get their fac and deer stalking qual, learn to shoot and whathaveyou then cant pull the trigger on the day
Possible of course, but you'll usually shoot first with a borrowed estate rifle and shoot your first deer before you apply for your FAC. That was the way for me at least.
shooting off sticks on 16 power is not the one,but well doe less power for me
