    You asked what was happening - Mercury retrograde and the eclipse season (lunar and total solar eclipse). Intense stuff for most people. Not the best time to want to hurry on a project. I know - I used to be the mama who wanted everything (knitting in my case). For years I was staying up late knitting, exhausting myself on very little sleep, trying to do it all and have it all in the day. I had been struggling with low thyroid and other issues for years. These days I know better. While I have my creative desires I don't stress about them as much. Things take as long as they take. With 3 boys and homeschooling, there is always so much to do. So these days I do as little as I can - I try to stay nourished and get as much sleep as possible. I am in bed by 10pm. What used to take me a month to knit up, takes 2 or 3 months now. It's fine. I value my wellbeing and health more. Being a creative mama is such a juggle. I hope you find your balance - and unlike me, avoid going into autoimmune stuff. Best of luck!

    I've been sewing for 50 years and I hate those new buttons! The old covered buttons had teeth on them. The skirt length is flattering. Don't worry too much about it.

    Beautiful skirt. And the baby is growing so fast. I was surprised to see her walking and having some teeth!!

    I will always be grateful to you for my healthy long hair with the ability of letting my hair grow very long again...in my autumn years....good to see you again...God bless.

      I was wondering when did I subscribe to her?
      I think it had something to do with what she does for her hair. I don't remember what it is exactly what she does🤔 but she does have very beautiful hair. And I'm wondering what do you mean by your Autumn years? Call me ignorant but I'm sure that must mean probably around 60?😊
      And what exactly does she do to her hair to make it super healthy?

    Thanks, I'm looking for inspiration. I used to be a couch potato city girl. Now that I'm living in the countryside, taking care of heaps of animals, I'm struggling to find time for self-care, hobbies, and alone time. Your skills and ability to manage time are amazing! Keep at it- no days off for good behavior!

      Glad the video is inspiring! Time management can be a real struggle! I'm not actually that great at it, imo 😅

    Your skirt is gorgeous! Love how you have styled it with the petticoat, the colour is amazing and love that the waistband is pointed at both front and back. I'm wondering if the hem could be stitched in before the fabric is pleated, I have seen this done on vintage pleated skirts. That way the pleats crease goes right to the hemmed edge, and you can adjust the length at the waist as done with 18th century petticoats. And the widths are joined afterwards too

    Love your old sewing machine, and its sound. I used to love sewing, its so addictive and sometimes very frustrating. I think if I had that sewing machine, I’d do it again, with a designer attitude. 😄 Thanks for your great videos.

    Amazing! Have you ever thought about getting an Au Pair or a Nanni? I was never this active - not even in my 30s. I am 60 now and I think I would crash and burn with 5 kids....

      Yes I have 😅 It's pretty expensive in this part of the world, though. Thankfully my husband helps a lot, not doing this alone.

    You you cpuld have made ties on the side like shoe laces and corsets. So you would literally have adjustable but pretty historical also

    You are amazing Katherine and your pleated skirt turned out beautifully. I love seeing your videos of life and work and perhaps a tiny little bit of chaos too😁🌸 love the snow on your side of the world.. Seen from Tanzania where I live in heat and humidity mostly it seems to have a relaxing, cooling effect.. where you live with your family is just beautiful!. Thank you and best wishes🍀🍀🍀

    Oh how I miss the snow of the winters of my early childhood. They were few and far between and we seldomly had knee deep snowfalls, but I do remember my mom's feet nearly getting frost bite from too much snow falling into her wellies.
    I must agree, 4 kids on spring break, an inquisitive baby new to walking, a young puppy, plus a sewing project you have to figure out on the go are a bit too much all together. I should know, because I still try to do such things 🤭 though I must agree that my list got a bit shorter as I got slower with the years 😉
    I love the length of your skirt and boots with the width of your loose hair. It balances your top half and bottom half perfectly. I have an embarrassing memory of an overly pleated skirt from my first year working as a professional. This one was a full circle sunray pleated skirt. Need I say more than that this concept doesn't go well with no petticoat, a public stairwell with an open bottom door, and stormy weather building up!

      @KatherineSewing  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes it can be! This was actually a really like high end poly, but if anything it was challenging because it was so light weight.

    I'm 1 month postpartum with our 5th. My other kids are quite a bit older, so I don't know how you do it❤ I guess our thing is working on music for church instead of sewing and movie making. The only sewing I have done lately is taking in seams on a thrifted wool sweater, sewing on a button, and sewing up a split on my daughter's skirt.

    I love this type of skirt. I am in love with your skirt. I can’t sew. I never used a sewing machine. I do not have sturdy hands and fingers. I can’t cut in straight line.

    • @KatherineSewing
      @KatherineSewing  5 місяців тому

      Thanks for your comment! Honestly, so much of sewing (or any skill) comes down to practice. Just got to jump in and try some sewing and you will catch on quickly! Cutting in a straight line, having sturdy fingers, so much of that comes with practice (or the right tools). 💕

    I had no idea there was a pleating company one could send out to?!! How do you keep so small after having your children?? Next is why do you have your studio so far from your home??? Wouldn’t it be easier to have it connected to your house??? Lastly just a tip for sewing slippery fabric . Secure a towel onto your sewing table on the left where your fabric rests while sewing. The towel prevents it from slipping off. Btw the lady whom gave you a snarky look at your first ever skirt…….shame on her. Even if that’s how she felt she should e congratulated you!!!

      Thanks for the tip. We didn't build our studio, the previous owners built it as a school. However, the distance has its advantages. ☺️
