I just came here to comment about your organization boxes. I saw another video of someone who did an open source grid box system but I didn’t know how I felt about it. After comparing the widths I decided to buy your stackable assortment STL file bundle. The $15 for all the files is super low for how much I like them. I after buying your files, I sliced both yours and the free open source version from the other UA-camr & here’s what I like about yours: 1) They are a lot bigger 2)They use less filament while still being plenty strong 3) They are faster to print because it’s all walls & no infill. The other UA-camr did a great job creating a similar system as you. Yours just seems to fit my needs better, & I like your build style more lol.
@@wh0tubeget best sealer.. make it 2 layers and reapply 1-2 layers of sealer every year. You should be good… But get sealer/ciment friendly chemicals when you clean your shower.
I absolutely love the organic finish of the micro cement! I know all of those layers were a lot more work than appears on cam. Sanding full walls no fun haha.
Pro tip, with all the lights / Buy replacements now. I just finished a complete bathroom overhaul, and the lights I used are rated for 6 to 8 years of life depending on daily use. In that time specialty products like your lights might not be available. So why not push out that "I have to find a compatible replacement" moment out to 12 to 16 years from now. ( drive the LED's less hard with lower voltages / amperages ( BigClive has excelent explenations ) and they last longer to )
Alex... so much love to your channel. Your videos are so precise and in-depth. You have such a positive attitude and your work is always awe-inspiring. Big love from Texas! ❤
@@achappel Yea I know but I live in a very old house and before we refurbed it every time if there were a little too much steam in the bathroom the ceiling started to mould, but we fixed everything now. I know a lot people does not waterproof their ceilings but I think it is a must.
Concerning the colour of the walls: Did you only use the construction spotlights or did you test the appearence with a final light setup? By my experience it's not only the colour of the surface. It's also the colour of the light, which makes the mood. Anyways. Nice work so far. 👍
Ahhh that brings back memories when I decided to finish the entire bathroom with Beal Mortex (pretty similar to micro cement) because I wasn't looking forward to do tiles. Butttt wasn't ready for the hours and hours of sanding for the mortex and learning as you go, haha. But in the end it's totally worth it. Also later in the cleaning department, just wash it down with some water. For the Beal they have a special wax you apply once a year so nothing sticks to it, maybe this also exists for the Microcement?. And keep up the great work Alex!
I understand you need nice and bright unidirectional lighting for recording videos like this, but setting up grazing lights is the perfect way to make it easy to see how smooth your application is on the wall actually is.
Good luck with that LED strip. Hopefully you can replace the strip without having to rip out the wall. Cause it will fail before the wall needs to be rebuilt. Honestly though, wouldnt it be easier to paint the bathroom?
I wish some of the products you used were available in Canada. Love that plywood 2x4s. It’s not here that I know of. Great work and series on the Reno!
For a flat surface, I would prefer the lower time investment of gyprock and several coats of paint and paint effects. I wonder what the Texture capabilities of microcement are? I am recalling some astonishing YT videos of Malaysian(?) Artisans creating some amazing bas-reliefs on walls with mortar.
Loving this series! You have a new subscriber. I do hope that the additional wood for the lighting niches won't be affected by moisture. It wasn't done the same way as the rest of the project (membranes, etc), just micro cement.
Many a plasterer has told me that the secret to a smooth coat is to apply each layer, have a cup of tea and wait to almost dry, go over the surface with a wet clean tool and then leave to dry. the repeat the process for the next layer. The reason for the cup of tea is that the time it takes to make an drink the tea is about the correct amount of drying time between resmoothing with a clean wet tool.
Now. . . are you sure that bathroom is waterproof enough? It looks amazing (esp knowing what that corner looked like before you started). I congratulate you [both] on all that work AND video production. You truly deserve the wonderful home you're gonna end up with. cheers.
Hi Thanks for your videos I’ve got a question,I want to render in bathroom but the walls are covered with waterproof do you know Which materials is ideal for over waterproof , for bass coat? Thanks
Seems expensive (layers) and time consuming (additional layers with sanding). Much easier and more efficient options available like Sheetrock, cement board and tile where needed, paint (which is my current Reno im tackling). So far my material cost and everything for a complete shower and walls is $1k USD, prebuilt cheaper options also available. I believe I could do the entire bathroom (toilet, sink, , walls, cabinets, shower, etc.) for under $2k USD with nice things.
Hi, as the apartment was not leveled when you started, something has been moving. What are the indications that the movement is done? A friend of mine leveled his floor in his old house and 3 years later it was out of level again....
Good point! It's foe sure going to keep moving yes! But it's taken 130 years to get to this point so our thinking is that it's going to take a good long time before it gets noticeable again :)
I love your enthousiams and professional work! I was wondering, using a concrete/brick base would you think the microcement would work for an outdoor kitchen set-up?
looks nice! How long do you have to wait between layers and when is it dry enough for showering and such? Concidering doing this to my bath but its the only bath in my apartment and i cant go tooo long without showering and doing my "deeds"... 😅💀 Currently renovating an apartment in Oslo as well so its nice to see someone going through the same struggles as me 😂
you can pretty much do 2 layers in one day, so corse and medium on the first day, 2 layers of micro cement on day 2, and then the 2 clear coat layers on the 3rd. (best case) I spent way more time than that and had way more layers:P
I wonder what the difference is between plaster and micro-cement. I think I can trowel better and finish with water troweling. I don't think I will need a sander.
@@achappel I mean the one additional piece for the led strips. i feel like this could swell and crack the surface of the microcement and loosen the tiles
Why install plywood after waterproofing, wouldn't it be better to use cement board for the light channel? That way there's no risk of delamination with humidity down the line.

I think the LED part will crack one day, I would guess sooner than later. Different Materials and normaly that material was not ment to fill gaps and handle the tension. So i think there will be a crack between the wood panel and the wall . You could have used a fabric tape. Maybe i'll be wrong. But love the passion you have for your work
I love the video, I want more. But please don't stress bro, feel free to relax a little more, it's ok if you look sad or sound tired, that's normal. Take a break, I won't forget you. :)
I know you're done with the niches already, but I think that ModustrialMaker had a pro tip with calking micro cement. Love how the micro cement turned out, unfortunately... 😆Now I want to treat the walls in our staircase with micro cement :D (Mayhaps I should contact Duri, though I live in Kristiansand and I don't think they have a store here).
I dunno how this stuff works but it's kinda scary to me that the process involves so much power sanding! Are you sure you didn't sand through any of the waterproofing stuff when you were doing the first through layers?

Starting to look like a finished space. I like the color. Can't wait to see the tile go in.
yay :) doing tiles right now, very big and quite tricky, looking forward to sharing the results.

Hi, you could use a medium size roller for applying microcemnt for obtainig a smooth surface otherwise it willbe a very hard process.
And get a straight edge trowel to help you as a beginner.
You have to put it on thinner than you think with finish
H plasters.
that is a lot of work!
Amazing work. You make it look so easy

Put on multiple coats before sanding. It makes for less sanding. Not more
