With the AKG C414 you can't hide and your vocals will be very naked in front of that mic. Making the singer vulnerable. You have to be able to sing to get the best out of it. Well done to Lydia!

I use this mic everyday & love how the top end sounds after a lil saturation! EB version silver is the smoothest 414 IMO!

I was at electric lady with Michael Brauer when he shot the demo for his waves plugin. Afterwards we went to lunch and i had the opportunity to ask as many questions as i could. One question i asked was what was his stereo like at home. I was shocked to find out that he only has sonos speakers in his crib. no two channel anything. Another question i asked was what mic did he use to record all those luther Vandross Classics and he told me it was a 414. He also told me he mic'd him from above facing down.

Yes. I will be doing analog summing for mixing. I have the Neve 8816. Studio tour coming soon! Waiting to add a few more things.

Love Wifey's voice, mic surprised me, but but it's messing some bottom end power (distortion/harmonics) that adds weight. Please, pease, please put her on a Telefunken TF51 with a BAE 1073MPF. I know you are moving to the analogue flavour. Do it on the in and on the out.. especially on the in.. When you double stack, you'll feel the difference. Ooohhh! Waaaam!

@@waynewav Digital reproduction from UA are great.. I have a Apollo x16 MK3 and Twin X. like you but, the input is always thinner because the saturation is applied post digitisation and is not truly random. When you gain stage a Mic, in to a Preamp (Valve or Transformer based) you get true randomisation and colourisation. Additionally if run into compressor before the DAC you add another level of colourisation. A thinker sound before DAC's. Call it 5% more depth for argument sake. When you layer that sound and spread the stereo field.. Mighty outcomes can be achieved. But, I Know you know this..Beast Man.. The recall-ability of digital and lower software costs are slowly pushing analogue out the window. But, all the great producers, recorders always seem to make sure their input stage is analogue even if the output stage is not.. Why is the question! There is nothing to say great recording can't be achieved, there are too many great records done the digital way as proof. But, we all know the better you capture the sound at the beginning the less you do in the box.. Props to Wifey and You for a great demo of the mic.. Remember, Computer love and many many hits were recorded with its older brother. And they all used high gain preamps in order to deal with the noise floor of old mixing desks. We still shake the booty to those hits to this day..

The C414 is a good mic if one uses the IsoVox 2 . I use the Wa87 and I have to eq the boxiness out

Can you make a video on terms the client ( or artist) can use to describe the sound they want in a mix to their engineer ? this can also be helpful when making revisions like for example say something sounds too "muddy" and the artist doesn't want that or say I want the vocals more ambient ? you get me ?! stuff like that > terms to get the desired sound that would be very helpful!!
This is the mic I have! Sick mic. I paired it with the bae dmp 1073 and an apollo twin duo. Im trying to record a song at our church but I'm still learning all of this. Would u record 2 people or more with this mic? Like a small choir group. If so, how? Any info would be appreciated. Ty.
You can record anything with this mic, from a single vocal or instrument, to an orchestra. For single vocal, use the cardioid pattern; 2 vocalists, hypercardioid, or figure 8 patterns (figure 8 one vocalist on either side of the mic); more than 2 vocalists, use the omni pattern and circle the vocalists around the mic, including the sides. Hope that helps. 🙏

Those parts stack well with that mic. Even though one pass cuts through the mix for her voice

Actually more expensiv microphones generaly takes eq ,compressoon better the more you stack it.
