No, that is kind of a good point. I do see him not knowing the series in and out, but I do not understand how he had not at least watched the films. Not to mention Howard also knows about Harry Potter and does make several references to the series, and Sheldon has much knowledge on Quidditch. Leonard even goes to comic con conventions...which always have Harry Potter characters being cosplayed, as I have experienced firsthand several times. The only way I see him not getting into the series is if he was actively avoiding it, but the opening scene (I think) of this episode implies that he just did not get around to reading the books. He "could not believe" that he has not read them sooner. At the end of the day this is just a sitcom, so that alone is the reason why he did not read them. The writers needed to manufacture this Sheldon-Leonard conflict, and wanted it to be centered around a popular reference. Or maybe Leonard is a unicorn nerd; was a nerd even in the mid to late 2000s (the peak of Harry Potter), has never got into the series despite having friends who openly have, goes to conventions that certainly have the characters from there being cosplayed, and has a non-nerd girlfriend who has read the novels and knows a small but very crucial character moment from the sixth book. He should have gotten many spoilers of the series' plot by now. I am definitely overthinking this show. 😂
That's kinda the point, though. They DON'T have anything in common, yet despite that, they clearly make each other better human beings. And they push each other out of their comfort zones so that they are both more patient and understanding when it comes to people they would never interact with normally.
That can b a good thing. More to talk about. They like each other as ppl support each others intrests and careers that friendship would make a strong foundation then common intrests.
