SPEAKING ON VANESSA GUILLEN AND WHAT IT'S LIKE BEING A WOMAN IN THE MILITARY

I want to begin with giving my condolences to Vanessa Guillen's family and loved ones and I pray justice is served for Vanessa and her family during this horrific tragedy. I wanted to speak on my feelings of this fellow service member's disappearance and the need for awareness and justice for her and women like her going through similar struggles. As an active duty sailor to hear of Vanessa Guillen and the way in which her fellow service members handled her disappearance left me completely heartbroken. She was a daughter, a sister and a soldier for this nation. How this could happen is unexplainable to me and any excuses being made are utterly wrong. I pray that peace and love aid her family in this time and that others including myself and all others around the world use their platforms to speak out the wrong doings that should have no defense. Women, whether serving their country or not, should not feel unsafe in their work environments and should receive the care and protection every human is deserving of.
My heart is broken for Vanessa and her loved ones. May she rest in peace and may justice and answers meet her and her family.
