Dang Bro. Glad you found that before an accident occurred and all is safe. Will be checking mine on my next oil change just to be sure as I haven't had any sounds. TY for the info.
I had both leaf packs replaced on my 2023 X31 Sierra. The clunking noise came back but not quite a bad and frequent so far in 10000 miles. I had a similar issue with 2019 F150.
Yeah it's a super common complaint for any leaf spring truck but especially light duty trucks that only have a couple leafs and deal with more axle wrap. The springs can shift as they settle, the u-bolts can loosen a bit, dirt can get in between the leafs and the anti-friction pads. The end result are clunks and squeaks but it's usually pretty easy to fix. Most guys go about it the worst way possible by smearing grease between the leafs or getting the dealer to change the whole spring stack out.
I have over 12K miles on mine 2023 Silverado 1500 Duramax but I don't think it came with 2" lift from factory mine is a LT Z71 4x4 but normal I don't know is that has something to do but next oil change I'll make sure to check , always watching your videos always helpful to learn. Thanks
Thanks for the info! Can’t wait to get home and get this done to see if it helps. I have taken it to the dealer at least twice to get this noise resolved and both times they said they did what they could but it always persisted. I hope this helps.
Took my 2020 in for this too last year. My dealer said "could not replicate". I pull out of the lot and it clunks over the curb. I didn't even bother turning around. Mine haven't lost any of the spacers. Funny enough mine haven't been making any noise lately. I should probably just get under there and check u-bolt torque anyway since my dealer isn't going to bother if a computer doesn't tell them to do something.
@@3.0dmax glad yours has subsided. I had the same thing happen to me, pulling out of the lot and I hear the noise…so frustrating. Especially after they had it for a week.
No bro, rewatch the video and pay better attention! He never once said they should be at 120 ft lbs, they should be 59 ft lbs then you go 120 to 140 DEGREES past that. And thats after you torque them to 59 ft lbs then BACK them off 180 DEGREES, then re-torque them to 59 ft lbs, then go 120 degrees past that
My 2024 Trail Boss had the leaf spring clunk noise from new. But now i have about 5k miles on the truck it’s mostly quiet. I will be torquing the bolts down though now that i’ve seen this.
I had a rotating sound I could hear as I came to a stop in my 22. Never found it. I’m guessing a bearing or something out of alignment. Never could duplicate it when lifted on a rack.
@@DemonWorks thanks for the quick reply, what’s the original issue just a clunk? Or was there some vibration also? I’m asking because I have 6” lift on a Silverado 1500 and it’s having some vibration coming from the back, I wonder if this TSB applies
@@marcrogue5268 just a clunk. This TSB won't apply since you will have aftermarket blocks and U Bolts. You can snug yours up just to be certain. Your issue could be many things, the 6" lift for sure not helping. The tires, driveline angle, driveline itself, bent wheel or tire separating, shocks.... the list can go on and on.
I have a click when pulling into parking lots or driveways and also what sounds like something smacking the side of the bed like a loud thud. I have tried the spring things but they did not help. I torqued the U Bolts and also the leaf spring mounting bolts. Has anyone had the leaf springs replaced with TSB 21-NA-200? Were these noises fixed?
I’ve seen many people get the leaf springs replaced. Depends on the severity of the noise. Being a leaf spring, there is a level of noise that just happens. If yours is really bad, it could be necessary for them to get replaced.
Don't they check those on the vehicles pdi inspection once received by the dealership? I worked at Freightliner for a long while and hated doing the u bolt torque checks.
You don’t have to worry about an extension on a torque wrench. Torque Test Channel even has a video on common myths with the torque wrench. You have no loss of accuracy with that small of an extension. Now, extensions do have an impact while using impact guns (pun intended). Time for me to go check the rear end.
@@DemonWorks Do you know where I can the factory specs and dimensions for replacement unbolts ? I see a bunch online but don’t know what ones to get . Thanks
It drives me crazy when guys shove pieces of rubber under the ends of the leaf springs or smear them with grease. They tell everyone that's how they just "fixed" the noise and so more guys do it, and then a month later the original guy is back in the discussion, angry because the noise is worse than ever. Dorman sells the anti friction inserts for the leaf springs. If you know what you're doing, you can pull the leaf springs apart and replace the delrin anti friction pads and clean any dirt off. No grease, just let the plastic ride against the surface of the spring. It's crazy how often the u-bolts are way undertorqued.
Heres how i get rid of the clunking noise on this general motors product. You drive to your local TOYOTA dealership and trade it in on the all new 2024 TUNDRA and you will not ever hear that clunking noise ever again!!!!!
Then you’ll be walking home bc your 3.5l TT engine blew bc Toyota forgot to clean out metal shavings after building the motors 😂. The only Tundra I would own again would be the 5.7l.

Where did you get the torque instructions?
I’m a gm tech.
I have a 2011 Denali with a clunk. It’s worth trying this
I’m checking mine now. No clunking on my truck, but yours weren’t even at 59 when they needed to be at 120!

Had my driver side leaf reolaced, 15 1700 and it started making noise again at like 5k. Kind of a bummer for such an expensive vehicle
Off topic question: any word on when an aftermarket exhaust system will be available for the LZ0’s?
I know it's in the works but they want to get some other items completed first.
Had this work done yesterday, did not resolve the issue. Did they do it correctly? Or is there other things that can be wrong?
This is essentially the starting point. Take the truck back in and you will probably need new leaf springs if that's the source of the noise.
I had a rotating sound I could hear as I came to a stop in my 22. Never found it. I’m guessing a bearing or something out of alignment.

Is the truck seating on the floor while doing this?
Yes

Are these torque to yield bolts for anyone who has persisting issues.
They are torque to yield and that's why I was surprised in the bulletin allowing the tech's to retorque.

no, GM has cut way back on the PDI process.

this won't be your issue.
2022.5 first hint of a pop/clunk today. 16K
All u-bolt loose - copied sequence watched here. All at 59lb plus now.
Torqued mine today again after some noise, a solid 90°+ on all bolts to hit the initial 59 ft-lbs after 15K miles

I installed “spring things” they are rubber sheets cut out that you stuff in the ends of the leafs got rid of the clunk
How many uga dugas =59ft/lbs?
The answer is yes
I did this to my zr2 1500 2024 with a 1000 miles on it. Torqued to 130 lbs and the U BOLT snapped in half.

If you look at his green wrench it says 120 deg
LOL, 100% guaranteed that the plant does NOT do step 2 or 3. They tighten and monitor torque and angle.
It said 120 to 140 degrees not lbs why are you torquing to 140
