Beautiful song! It has so much more meaning after climbing that mountain road in our bus..going through the tunnel with this song playing, then exiting the tunnel and the beauty of Jerusalem was EVERYWHERE! We sang. We cried. We clapped upon our first vision of the beautiful Holy City of Jerusalem!

Last night I lay asleeping There came a dream so fair I stood in old Jerusalem Beside the temple there I heard the children singing And ever as they sang Methought the voice of Angels From Heaven in answer rang "Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Lift up your gates and sing, Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna to your King!" And then methought my dream was chang'd The streets no longer rang Hushed were the glad Hosannas The little children sang The sun grew dark with mystery The morn was cold and chill As the shadow of a cross arose Upon a lonely hill "Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Hark! How the Angels sing, Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to your King!" And once again the scene was changed New earth there seemed to be I saw the Holy City Beside the tideless sea The light of God was on its streets The gates were open wide And all who would might enter And no one was denied No need of moon or stars by night Or sun to shine by day It was the new Jerusalem That would not pass away "Jerusalem! Jerusalem Sing for the night is o'er Hosanna in the highest Hosanna for evermore!"
I sang this as a boy of 10yrs old at a very big concert and at 85 I still can sing the words without a script.Isaiah tells of his vision of the New Jerusalem which for us as Christians is not geographical but one that is spiritual right within ourselves
I think I have posted elsewhere on this hymn, but I was part of a church choir in northern New South Wales, we would sing this at the conclusion of our Easter Saturday night Mass. a hymn that often needs a choir to bring out its best.
Even the temple was beautiful to see 15 story's tall of white marble, what made the temple, wonderful and beautiful was JESUS THE CHRIST AND THE SHEKINAH GLORY COVERINGS THE TEMPLE BLESSED BE THE LORD FOREVER AND FOREVER
I love this version of the Holy City...was my mother's favourite song!!! Though she passed many years ago, hearing it always melts my heart and brings me comfort....
Sir's you all give us great comfort. I shed tears to see Christ moving away. We are all awaiting God's coming again very eagerly. Great comfort from this song. Regards from Malaysia. Thank you. Thank you.

Many would be blessed and chosen for the everlasting life in the eternal Kingdom through the holy judgement of God the Lord. My dear faithful Land of Israel has been chosen by the same God the Lord as the holy land, saved forever and made free of sin and evil by almighty God the Lord Eternal Rruler and King and Master of all the things visible and invisible. It is written in the Word of God the Lord[Holy Bible] and if someone does not believe in it, he does not believe in the God, The Almighty Creator, truly and faithfully. You can't be saved unless you believe.
@@sdwhite5701 that was an interesting point. Does this mean you believe people from other religions will be able to enter through the gates of the holy city on the day of the final judgement?
@@jeffreysmith7542 Well, I was just reiterating what the song says. In the NEW Jerusalem the gates will open, and no one will be excluded/denied. Did you know that at the inception of Christianity, one had to be Jewish to be considered a Christian. You can research that. I feel that any kind of exclusion is a a sad human need to feel somehow superior to others; more worthy of this or that, but feelings of inferiority are actually what is at play. The emphasis on children in the song sends a nice message as they are so often the innocent victims of adult hatred.
@@sdwhite5701 I always wondered what the song writer met with that phrase in the song. Because it totally contradicts what most Christians believe in. After all the bible does teach that only through the name of Jesus can one be saved but it does seem unfair for people to be denied into heaven when their are good people of other religions and some which have never even have the chance to except Jesus.

Nice version and your video is amazing. I am sure that you put a lot of effort to collect all the source footage to make the video. Well done 👍. Btw, I also like the modern pop version of the Holy City by Jesse 😊. But it's in Portugese language (I think). Thank you for the video 🙏
Good soloist, great chorus, but somehow a lack of passion on the part of the soloist. Could have been her concentraton on the challenge of the music's demands

Certainly a fine performance but for sheer power and purity of voice, none can compete with the recording by the late great Kenneth MacKellar.

I think the singer is Helen Walker.
This was my grand father who is the lead, and I’m not lying
Wow
Bro musta will channel bunso to kamusta
This is a mans song!
Why does it keep stopping afrer 10 seconds?
Lovely version, but listen to Dame Vera Lynn!
Who is the soloist?
Helen Walker. Frank in Bristol.
For me the best version is by Vera Lynn
the beats are a bit lacking behind.
Written by the same man who wrote " Danny Boy ".
Frederic Weatherly did indeed write the lyrics. The music was written by Michael Maybrick (aka Stephen Adams).

I think David Hobson sings it better!! but still a lovely version!
Good soloist, great chorus, but somehow a lack of passion on the part of the soloist. Could have been her concentraton on the challenge of the music's demands
I guess we interpret the "best version" differently, but imho andre rieu's version (with the platin tenors) is way better
The lady who sang has a nice voice but lacked the emotion and religious feel. It did nothing for me.
Is that Charlotte Church?
