Thankyou for showcasing my county. I love living here! Loopers might want to consider an intinery which includes coming around the North tip of Door County (Known as "Death's Door, but don't let the name scare you) into Green Bay along the Western shore of Door County adding some of those cute towns to their overnight marina stays. (The county is not nearly so crowded mid-week on non Labor Day weekends). A stop in Sturgeon Bay is nice followed by a quick trip down the canal to the big Lake Michigan and thence on further South to continue the Loop. Thanks for stopping by and glad you enjoyed it. Have a fun, safe rest of your trip.
100% what Mike said. Rock Island is one of our favorite places in the world. We'd been trailering a 27' Sea Ray up (from Milwaukee suburbs) for years but 2018 we left the boat at home and headed to Rock Island late June on a Saturday and it was slightly busy but not at all crowded. 2020 high water had Rock Island closed. 2021 we had just purchased a new yacht, but only made it as far as Fish Creek when we had to cut the 4 day weekend short due to high wave forecast on Sunday so we had to scoot back to MKE quick on Saturday. This year we came by truck mid April and brought the inflatable dinghy from a friends yacht. Took that from Jackson Harbor to Rock Island in building seas with a 17 knot blow from the NNW. We had Rock Island to ourselves. Hiked the perimeter trail. It was magical. (the return crossing in 4 foot seas in a 10 foot dinghy with an 8 hp motor lived up to "deaths door". Scariest crossing I ever made. So pick a better wind day than I did. For all the loopers who come down the Michigan side... There are great marinas in Michigan and some great beaches/nice sand dunes... But if you like to get off the boat for some world class hiking you will not find anything better than Rock Island and Peninsula State Park. We crossed to Saugatuck once this summer and hoped it would match the magic of door county... and it was nice, but nothing beats Door County if you are an outdoorsy type. I think more loopers should consider coming down the Wisconsin side (or looping twice) :)
I grew up there. If someone was putting kerosene on a fish boil fire, they should be taken out back and shot. The ONLY reason for flames off a fish boil is when the fat from the salmon or whitefish boils over, hits the fire and ignites in large flames. It is definitely used to draw in tourists, but it also makes a huge mess if you're doing it at home. Hard to avoid; so we always coat the OUTSIDE of our fish boil kettles with dish soap; this way, the scorching of the flame blackens, but then washes right off after dinner.
Great quick video tour! You hit most of our favorite places. 😎
Good to know. I'm always wondering if I've missed something significant. Thanks for the feedback!

Great suggestions! I wish we had more time in that area. But, now we have a reason to come back!

Wow! Thanks for the local knowledge. Now I'm questioning everything!
