  • A week in Donegal along the beautiful coast at Carrickfinn, beside Donegal Airport. Lots of walks along the beaches and a wild camp with my nephew Alfie.

Great double act Gerry, Alfie is a chip of the old block!!He's a natural, and I'm sure he'll want to come along with you many times again. Donegal is so rugged and unspoilt, that sunset was brilliant, and the beaches are so perfect. Did a bus trip recently on the Sperrin Rambler between Omagh and Magherafelt - sadly the weather was atrocious so our views were limited but we had a great day. Regards, Ashley

Alfie, you are a natural in front of the camera. Loved you taking us on your wee adventure as you went exploring around the rocks. I expect you will be a great inspiration to many young people, which will encourage them to get outdoors too.

Fun wild camp Gerry and Alfie! The beaches and atmosphere at Donegal are wonderful! Fun to hear from Alfie- nice that his mom has got him set up with his own GoPro. Great exploring along the rocky beach. I’m sure he’ll have fun getting his channel started… seems like a pro at Wild Camping already! Really nice that your family can get away to a beach house for a week, some things like that are just coming back after Covid. Lovely views of the coastal life! 👌💙💙 - Jen

Cheers Jennifer👍 It was wonderful to get that week away, something that we did every year all over Ireland and Covid took that away and it has been so long in coming back - like many other things. Alfie has quite the thing for cameras and filming at the moment and is gathering some collection of gear (including some of my old stuff). It was great to have him along and I am sure we will do it again soon😊

Great to be back to an old area you know well Gerry and with young Alfi learning the ropes too. He's going to be a good wild camper like yourself. A lovely spot on the beach there. I was almost expecting some crab for dinner. Crab or not a good nights sleep and no rain. That's a result! That house has seen better days but there are still some things left behind. I love a good explore of these places. Well, good going as always. Take care. Mark

Great to see wee Alfie getting out and enjoying the great outdoors. Was talking this week about you to some friends and how you can just sleep up on a mountainside in a bivvy bag without any bother. Been wanting to go out on a trek myself, but the rain has been lethal so waiting on some waterproof gear before I head out into Donegal! Fuck given how small the world is, I might bump into you at some stage😄

It has been far too long to have been out with Alfie and this was a cool wee trip that was good for us both👍 Not sure how much sleep I get in the bivy bag half the time though will take whatever I can get. Donegal is always there and worth waiting for and you never know who you might bump into out in the hills (though usually no one in my case😊).

Hi Gerry. New subscriber. Great content and right up my street. I was thinking of heading over for a decent go at one or other of the longer trails. Can you clarify the basic wild camping rules in Ireland. We're fortunate in Scotland that the right to roam still exists.
