If you need an all - around sweeper with incredible digging power, the Elgin Pelican is the perfect solution. This legendary machine combines maneuverability, economy, serviceability and single lane dumping. The Pelican provides exceptional digging power in heavy compacted dirt, as well as effective pickup of light or bulky debris. The Pelican is based on a design that's been continually improved since 1914. Innovations, such as the no jam conveyor and a patented sprung guide wheel have made the worlds best selling three wheeled broom sweeper.
You're not the only one. We have 2. One is the newer one with two brooms but the other, which has one broom is still at Timmerman, the manufacturer, for over 5 months getting a complete refix and possible rebuild
IMO, the rear steer design isn’t as advantageous as it’s thought to be. We have some Pelicans and other sweepers that are mounted on a regular front drive Frieghtliner chassis. The guys in the Freightliners do a better job. The pelicans are more manoeuvrable, but, as they pivot, it lets more dirty out the side. Because the sweeper is so close to the pivot point, this creates a windrow when turning. The frieghtliners also have rear mounted sweepers, but don’t get that windrow, since the it’s far away from the pivot point. If the pelican had the steering mechanism on the front or the sweeper somehow designed into the front, I think it would mitigate the problem. Just an observation
@BlackJag92 yeah dude same here, ever since i was five ive loved street sweepers, and had the elgin pelican sweeper toy, i had like 8 of them, with the orange and tan brown lines going along the side, yeah street sweeping is the shit
Not that it's a bid deal, but I couldn't help but wonder; do the Pelicans have radios in them? (AM/FM, CD or MP3 player, etc.)? I know the older ones didn't.
I’ve operated a few Pelicans in my 47 years of being alive, I love this model. It’s the backbone of our city’s sweeper fleet.
This is an icon in the streets of Chicago, a good ol’ baby blue Elgin Pelican sweeping away.
The Pelican is the most iconic sweeper model from Elgin! I am happy to have operated these babies in my history.
ya same but i miss waking up every morning to the noise of sweeper in my city i miss the 90's one
Been driving the Pelican for 2 years. Love it!

Have one at my work, spends more time in the shop than it does sweeping.

GeneralSirDouglasMcA yes they do!
I hate the Pelican, it's uncomfortable and has no suspension
