This is due to him growing up and his acting career but also due to the scary activities of saesangs (crazed fans) and unfortunately EXO seems to have more than their fair share of them. SM artists in general seem to attract the worst. D.O. himself has admitted it is sometimes hard to even want to get close to fans because of this. He does appear to have a cold exterior but during concerts he is more animated and prone to show his old, more lively self to true fans. I believe it is because he feels safer and more secure in that atmosphere. He is considered by the members themselves to be the manliest member. He has a very soft spot for the two youngest members, Kai and Sehun. Remember he may look and act older but he's the third youngest. That's why it was such a shock he went into the military so early. BTW He's expected to be in a military musical later this month.
