- It's my mom and dad's first video of 2023, and today they'll be eating wontons for the FIRST TIME EVER!
Hard to believe, but my mom and dad have never eaten wonton soup before. Seeing as my dad LOVES dumplings, I'm guessing he's probably going to like these too!
We'll also be chatting about the new rules about travel between UK and China in 2023, which finally opens up the possibility that I might be able to go back and see them this year. So, go grab some food and get ready to smile!

建国。这馄饨煮得不对哦。馄饨单煮,要加两次水。直到馄饨漂水上。汤可以按照自己的喜好调,用开水,不是用煮馄饨的汤。
快快再帶韓梅梅和博步來中國玩玩。

我是广东人,在我们这边,馄饨的皮更薄更滑一些,饺子皮会更厚。而且我们这边的馄饨里面主要是猪肉和鲜虾,所以对于我们而言,馄饨是更鲜美小巧的代表。

As a Bob fan (as well as Heather and Stuart fan), I hope you're able to bring them to China soon and go on another food adventure like the one in Beijing with the guokui.
Also, I don't know what it is with the languages, but as with the word for chopsticks, I know the Cantonese and Mandarin have the same characters and pronounce 'zi' for bamboo more or less the same. (I think similarly to how within the Indo-European languages, the Latin quattuor and quinque have as their Germanic cognates what is now four and five in English or how guttural sounds in English have corrupted to f sounds like in laugh, cough, and tough, that the same evolution of sounds must have characterized words in Chinese prior to standardization of pronunciation thus causing the difference of kuai vs fai for quick) Yet, in Toisan, they use a very different sound for that second syllable that is closer to the Vietnamese word for chopsticks, calling them 'Fai Du'. Similarly, both Cantonese and Mandarin seem to pronounce the second syllable in wontons more or less the same yet such is different also from the Toisan 'wun hun'

水太少了,要高一點,把餛飩淹沒,熟了之後,餛飩會浮起來,飄在水面,把餛飩放碗里,舀一點湯,放點生抽,雞粉,蒜蓉,蔥花,一點點麻油,就很好吃了

刚刚才看到,这个跟我们西安的馄炖不一样啊!我们西安的馄炖是鸡汤加盐胡椒粉 里面放鸡丝虾皮紫菜还有鸡蛋丝,配小笼包一起吃。想起小时候跟妈妈一起去解放路民生商场逛街累了饿了 就去旁边的小食店吃馄炖小笼包,打住,眼泪要出来了!

technically wontons are one type of dumplings, and jiaozi are another type. they're pretty much all dumplings, like pelmeni or tortelli or kreplach...
sichuan style chaoshou is one of the best wonton varieties, as are the breakfast mini-wontons around Jiangnan area with the seaweed and tiny dried shrimp "soup". but my favourite is still 砂锅云吞鸡 wonton chicken casserole, a Shanghainese dish.

@@TravelinChina they are tinier and the pastry is soft. Eating them are like swallowing marshmallows ! But then I am biased and speaking from my experience of the wonton in my hometown Ipoh 😀

Haha. Very different. The wrapper texture are different also the meat insides are differ. Wonton is popular in south of China for breakfast. And dumplings are getting popular too

You can also steam wonton or fry them.
The fillings are totally different for wonton and dumplings. The way we boil wonton is also different from what Situ did.
Pedantic stepping in here - Jiaozi and Wonton are both dumplings, and you can get "dry" wontons without soup, so this is not the difference, the main difference is filling, but because it is regional, that might not even be a difference, so appearance is really main one.
Also, Hundun 混沌 Are not really wonton, hundun is a type from huainan cuisine, think jiangsu, shanghai, wonton are cantonese, and the cantonese are spelled 云吞,yuntun in mandarin. You should know this is a chinese speaker living there ;) - clearly you are not a true foodie!
