Every once in a while, I come back to this clip and watch it again, I never ever tire of hearing both the engine thrash its way out of the station, and the cheers from the crowds as it does so, to the sound of her horns a blowing... If you like trains, then you just gotta love this clip. 10/10 Top of the class :-)
Take me back to those early years ,Fab sounding class 40 locomotion and that beautiful sounding horn ❤️Miss these times and feeling nostalgic watching ,Long live the Whistlers when blue Diesel locomotion ruled the rails back in whenever this was filmed , Looks like the early 1980s.
Awesome video. Its not the same on our train network now. Half the trains dont have any character like the ones in the 80s/90s/early2000. Noise, power, diesel, everything was superb
EverTrainz I can’t explain why, it’s a feeling within me. Maybe it takes me back to my teens, my youth, the 70’s, I just love this clip with all its sounds. I would buy that driver a drink for doing that thrash. Awesome clip. My fav for sure. 😊
I miss these old whistlers, At Whitemoor, March back in the day they used to keep them ticking over all night during the winter because they were a bugger to cold start.
If all the old trains from back in the day could come back that would be brilliant , top video mate I live Manchester Piccadilly going on them old rail rangers for a £1 all over greater Manchester godbless you bruvv,
This does make me wish I had been born a number of years earlier though I do look forward to some loco hauled passenger trains with 67s soon. Great piece of footage. thanks for posting
What is it with the class 40 and the 37?............. I just cant help it but love those amazing machines. Its the scream of power that gets me every time.
I like the shape of the class 37 and 40 locomotives with almost identical cabs with the three piece windscreen. But the 37 is the slightly smaller growler with 12 wheels, and the 40 is the bigger whistler with 16 wheels. It's a shame the majority of 40s were scrapped in the 1980s, and most 37s survived much longer, with a small number still in operation.
bit of history that - last skeggie home? With 40s in this good a nick it was criminal to cut them whilst duffs were failing right left and centre back then.
@@am-vm8ew Problem nowadays is that the word "thrash" seems to be used to describe any diesel loco passing a video camera. Or even "Epic Thrash" or "Earsplitting Thrash" or "Megathrash". Increasingly desperate attempts for UA-camrs to get their videos clicked on. To me, a thrash has to include loud volume, full throttle and plenty of clag. The ideal candidate locos for a thrash are of course the class 37s 40s and the Deltics. Class 42s 45s and 47s come close, and the Westerns. Maybe you could include the Hymeks with their high-revving Maybach engines, like the Westerns. Note it is almost impossible for any modern loco to produce a good thrash: engine silencing is too efficient as is exhaust cleanliness.

I've watched this about 8 times already, it's hauntingly beautiful, the swan song of that engine was amazing, thank you.

brings a tear to the eye
This is good. I noticed the Class 86 alongside - I've always considered these to be handsome, well-proportioned and tidy-looking locos.

sent shivers down my spine, absolutely amazing video 5 star
Great to watch this.Absolutely wonderful.Brings it all back those happy memories as a train enthusiast as a school child. Thanks for sharing.
Great vid. Top marks to the driver for that display.
I think this is a cracking piece of film footage, Love the crowd responce as it pulls out.. Brilliant !
Fantastic loco. In the early 70s at York station, you always took the sight of a 40, 45, 47 n Deltic for granted. Now...... How times have changed.
When we had a REAL railway and it was all made in Britain!
Apart from early Romanian 56's and a little later American 59's I think.
Emotional clip of a great machine, thanks for sharing.
Superb piece of nostalgia dating back to 1984...Bob
Just popped back in to view my favourite clip :-)
Well now there's 13 minutes of glorious footage of this working on his channel :-D

Typical old EE No "enviromental" protection in them days.

My favourite Aureol40012 clip, so nostalgic. I was'nt there as I was doing 40160 on the coast that day. Hellfire !!!
Even the 86 is more or less history now. Shame all round really.

Good old diesel days, noise, dirty smoke and BR blue. Love it.
I think I much prefer today's exciting scene at Piccadilly with fantastic Voyagers, phenomenal 323's and hellfire Desiros.
Only joking
Its only a machine yet it makes me quite emotional that.
Absolutely understand mate, same here.
Just fabulous! Nuff said.

they were not scrapped, they changed their code to 97 and were only used for freight.
Only four locomotives 97405-97408 were reserved for ballast duties, the rest were scrapped apart from those preserved.
Just Popped in for my 'Fix' 🙂
I sooo love this clip :-)
I remember theses diesels running pass my then house on the Paddington line.
No over crowding then plenty of rolling stock about not like Now
apparently I was there, im expected to remember but I dont to the annoyance of my dad
Oh my lordz look at the flag and celebration as it shows off full power
You could hear these for miles around Crewe back in the 1980s

I recently found out about that.
I love the knobheads on the platform they will be all old people now.
You'll be old one day too, then we can all call you a knobhead. In the meantime, I'll call you a knobhead now.
Ha Ha you knobhead.
Piccadilly station looks really dull when compared to how it looks now
sad thing is half people in that video are probably dead now
Im back :-)
Wonder what happened to her? Scrap?
the bashers though!!! pmsl!!

What does Thrash mean? Accelerate fast?
Rose Supreme Thrash means full throttle out of a station or a standstill.
