Chikan embroidery of Lucknow is a famous artwork. This employs a variety of embroidery methods to create stunning designs. The uniqueness of this method lies in the use of varying number of strands of thread for embroidery on fine semi-transparent cloth.
Although this type of embroidery takes quite a bit of time to complete a particular instance, it is quite easy to learn. This video shows how to do a simple chikan embroidery.

Only the herringbone style stitch, when we work on the wrong side is shadow work. Other stitches are part of chikankari work...
