Brno is great. Much less touristy and scammy than Prague but just as beautiful and loaded with just as many cool things to see and do. Definitely an essential stop on a Czech trip. The bomb bunker was the coolest part for me.

Dobry den! I visited Prague for a short vacation trip a few days ago to get a feeling for the culture and the people, since I'm planning an exchange semester next year. Actually in Brno.
I loved Prague, but it was very touristy, so I'm really looking forward to Brno and a real dense Czech experience. Your video came right on time!

Brno is NOT real Czech, - Brno is different an3d the mentality of its people is waaaaay toooooo different from typical Czech and very mind destroying...
Better go to another reagional capitals like Plzeň(Pilsen), České Budějovice(Budweiss), Pardubice, Hradec Králové or even Ostrava,
-but SKIP. Brno, Olomouc, Zlín Jihlava and Ústí nad Labem...

On my first visit to Czechia, I visited Brno before going to Praha. I too loved the town. It's much smaller than Praha, and very easy to get around. It is very hilly, so have some very good shoes for walking. There is a ton of history in that area. One of Napoleon's most famous battles was fought nearby. Take a trek up the hill to the local castle for some amazing views. I didn't make it to the underground yet, but that is a definite on my next visit. It's known as a college town, and the population drops a bit when the university is not in session. Also, see if you can figure out how to actually read the local astronomical clock. My biggest regret about visiting Brno, I did not allow enough time in the city before I had to move on to Praha.

Sooo.. there are maybe 5 channels I subscribe to that I never miss a video. And The Honest Guide is one of them. I will probably never visit there, even though I would love to. But there is something about the feel of their videos that I enjoy. I also like learning about other places, cultures, etc.. but I love their style and learning all obout Prague and anywhere else these 2 may travel. Thank you for years of entertainment. Very much appreciated.

I love Brno. I went there and there was pretty much zero tourists, amazing locals, food is so much better than Praha. I love the city and would return in a heartbeat. Close by is the Punkva cave. Incredible place, worth checking out. Two places to check out is V Melounovém, cukru, an incredible place to grab a coffee and cake. Stopkova Plzeňská Pivnice is my favorite place to get duck and dumplings. More food than you could ever ask for, great atmosphere and just one of my favorite places in the world. Come to Brno. It's where I feel at home

I'm from London and my wife's from just outside Brno. I regularly travel there, at least once a year, but I kind of see it as I see London - the place I go to get stuff. After watching this, I am going to spend a bit more time looking around rather than just getting shopping and heading home. I guess it's easy to take for granted that which is familiar to you.

I LOVE Brno! I visited for the first time in the early 2000s and have returned many times.
It is a delightful little city, full of personality and we have always found very nice and interesting people.
Also, I found the artistic scene very lively and unique.
I have a lovely memory of a charming museum guide at Moravské zemské museum, a lady whom we afterwards met at a theatre soirée (by the way, Brno has a fantastic classical music scene) and she introduced us to all her lady friends bragging about the Italian couple she showed around! 🥰
I could think of lots of places, but I will recommend two:
Rebio Velký Špalíček - it's a bio vegetarian restaurant (they have also other restaurants in town), food is delicious and the prices incredible (you pay by the weight) for bio food.
The other one is Pegas, a small brewery which has also some rooms (those I didn't try). Beer is really good, as is the food. And the place has a lot of character.
I hope I can return soon, I miss Brno a lot!

A few places I liked a lot in Brno (all have super nice people working):
    1. Barčelato for gelato -- north at the Husitska red line tram stop.
    2. Nett's BBQ -- a few blocks north of Barčelato.
    3. Poppy Beans Coffee -- near Pionýrská red line tram stop.
    4. Mymika for espresso -- a bit north of The Sea (big new fountain).
    5. Vom Fass for vinegar -- it's a chain, but the fruit vinegars on the market veggies are fab.
    6. Štrúdlárna Brno -- fabulous tvaroh and strudels and jams made by owner.
    7. Monogram Espresso Bar -- superb mocha and small but great selection of beans.
    8. Matějovo pekařstvi -- store with great yogurt, + a honey store with raspberry+honey mix to die for.
    9. Mama Stella -- bakery with good everything but superb cinnamon rolls that always sell out fast.

Just got back from a short trip of Brno-Prague-Ceske Budejovice. This video did help us a lot make the most of our visit. Some personal impressions:
People outside the city centre of Brno tend to freeze when you start speaking in English to them. It was actually a very interesting experience: in Prague virtually everyone spoke in English. In Ceske Budejovice folks had challenges, but we managed to understand each other with a mixture of hand signals, German and English. Here the general reaction was more like 'OMG, what do I do now?' But we survived, no biggie.
Upon arriving here after a 4-hour drive we parked in a shopping mall. I was eager to find a bathroom, turned out you have to pay for it (it's OK), but you could only pay in cash. This was one of the two times we were supposed to have cash in Czechia. Generally not a big deal at that point I did wish for a card reader at the entrance.

Another fun fact if you are a science nerd like us: Mendel, the father of genetics is from there. There is monument and museum. They are cheap and a nice little momento of really important events that happened there.

My favorite dessert used to be Cukrárna Kolbaba, where I'd get a větrník, but according to the reviews, it appears to have gotten worse. The handful of times I organized a work dinner, I'd schedule them at Stopkova Plzeňská Pivnice (near the main square), or Vittorio Restaurant (up the hill from Mendel Square). My favorite pizzeria was La Patas, a bit out of the way in a residential area on the edge of the city.

As a fresh Brno resident, I have a great recommendation for two cheap restaurants in Brno.
The first one is called Poe Poe, which is a fast food restaurant serving pizza, fries, pancakes, waffles, donuts and other assorted quick bite meals. You can get a quick lunch there for under 100kč. It is located between Náměstí Svobody (the one with the astronomical clock) and the main train station
The other restaurant is called Oáza (oasis), which serves vegan food for insanely low prices (usually 86kč for a full plate). There are almost no tables with chairs, so you eat while standing up, but it is a great way to eat a proper meal at a low price. It is one tram stop on either tram number 3, 10 or 12 away from Česká, which is a major tram interchange near MUNI, the "main" university in Brno.

You missed the Mamut Pub which would easily blow most non Czech's minds. Imagine a beer tap at your table where you can pour your own draught beer (the vats are refilled regularly so its very fresh and it was Staropromen!) a digital score board that marks every 1/2 litre poured per table. For a business function this becomes a real team building event :). The food is also very good. BBQ chicken, ribs, and wings or maybe try a pigs-knee (awesome). By far my favorite restaurant in all of Europe at the foot of the beautiful cathedral.

They were planned to visit the 'The Pub' (same pour your own beer brand) but Janek deterred them from going because of the sole fact you wouldn't go into a coffee shop to make your own coffee so why would you pour your own beer. I agree with that.

That "stock exchange" pub is something that we used to have in some places here in Spain. You had to just "hope" nobody else wanted the same as you for a while so you saw its price drop. It was a "risky" game, kind of a reverse auction (like they do on fish markets).
By the way, it's been a few videos about Brno (which, even in this video, I'm not sure if it's more "Berno" or "Breno") but little (if ever anything) about its racetrack, which is how I (and surely many) first heard about Brno ever.

Brno is also good for public transport enthusiasts. Their most famous feature is probably the quad track section in front of the train station, but they also run basically every tram model Czechs ever made. By public transport, Brno shares the first spot for me together with Liberec, but since Liberec is getting rid of the dual gauge, and the last T2 is long retired, I guess Brno wins.
Prague's public transport, despite being very comprehensive is quite cookie cutter: there's only 4 or 5 tram models, the tracks are all in the bland configuration along the centre of the street, there aren't many "creative solutions", no trolleybuses...

No trdelnik at Brno?😢 ... Joking ... I fell in love with Brno when I saw it for the first time. Its an absolute lovely city. And much less crowded as Praha. And it does have the fact, that you can visit 3 (or 4, including Praha) european capitals from this point with a train ride of maximum 2,5 hrs. But why not just stay there especially in summer and join a boat ride, visit the zoo, the amazing Riviera koupaliste or the Macocha near Blansko?!
