@@RobinWhalley First time attempting a panorama shot. Across from the tower, I was the one getting tangled up in a tripod and getting in a right mess. =]
Thanks for the video. I feel so much better with my purchase after seeing what this program can do. I have always used Photoshop until an incident yesterday. I purchase my CS6 three years ago. Yesterday I attempt to work on some photos and receive a message saying my serial number was revoked. When I called to find out they said they no longer service that product with the serial number since it was unauthorized number. I purchased the product from a reputable store, the stand alone software was Adobe and it was legit. They refused to help and kept pushing on me to sign up for the subscription plan. I told them to fuck off. Saw reviews about affinity and decided to try. So far from what I have been seeing is impressive.
How does cloning on that pixel layer affect the underlying image layer? It does nothing on mine. Belay that, you select "Layers beneath", another thing I've learned.

Thanks. I’m not sure if you know but there is a new series that I’ve been doing recently. You should be able to spot it in the learn Affinity Photo playlist. Affinity Photo is a great photo editor.
Hi Robin. Thanks for your great video tutorials. I am glad that you receive all your tutorials. I am still learning A. Photo. I was trying to experiment with Liquify Persona, however it was not working! I trying to adjust all options were available; I still was not able to understand why it was not working. The above video explains it very well. For me, didn't work. Thanks for reading my text... Stay safe.
Thanks for this Robin - very clear. I'm not sure why but when it came to removing blemishes on the new layer it turned out that my version of Affinity was set to sample only the current layer which of course resulted in lots of empty clicking. This is on a brand new install - so presumably that's the new default?
I have a sharpness problem in my affinity photo. Namely, in the develop persona I set the sharpness when I go to the photo persona the sharpness settings disappear. Do you have a solution for this?
I'm not sure I'm following the problem. When you apply sharpening in the Develop Persona and then switch to the Photo Persona, Affinity will apply your settings to the pixels directly. After that, you can't change them by going back to the Develop Persona. Are you saying that Affinity isn't applying the sharpening done in the Develop persona at all?
I have bought your e-book on Affinity Photo. I am using Lightroom 6 for managing my photos. As I am one of the Adobe subscription haters, I turn to AP instead of Photoshop. Can you include info on using AP as a plugin to Lightroom in your future tutorials please?
Thanks for buying my book and I hope it’s helpful. It’s not possible to use Affinity Photo as a plug-in. Do you mean opening images Affinity from Lightroom. Given you don’t want an Adobe subscription have you considered using Adobe Bridge? I have a video coming up that might help with that and Lightroom is very similar.
i have a missing section on the right of my screen it doesnt give me the option to change from histogram, colours, swatches and brushes can anyone help????
First, check you are in the correct Persona. Assuming you are, click the "View" menu and come down to the "Studio" submenu. This shows all the panels you currently have open which should include your histogram, colours etc. You can click these entries to turn them on and off. A quicker option is to use the "Reset Studio" menu item at the bottom of the list. This will set all the panels back to their default. Hope this works for you.
So this is my confusion. The Develop Persona has what might be described as traditional photo editing tools (such as, say, the ones in Lightroom). But the Photo Persona has some too. As does the Tone Mapping Persona? Not going to lie.. I’m new to this.. which might explain my confusion. Could you explain what’s going on. Great video, really, thanks.
If you like to think in terms of software, the Develop Persona is like Lightroom as you point out. The Photo Persona is like Photoshop and has almost identical tools and capabilities. You see the same overlap between Lightroom and Photoshop. The Tone Mapping Persona is also like Photoshop except that Photoshop has all it's tool in one central workspace. Affinity has split the tools into the Photo, Tone Mapping, Liquify and Export Persona. This makes it confusing in one sense but now you don't need to search through lots of tools to find the ones you want. For example, if you are editing fashion shots you may need to work with the Liquify Persona to use those tools to adjust the shape and size of models. In Photoshop the same tools are mixed in with the other fitlers. I hope this helps.
I bought the book and got as far page 34 before the description and software navigation became confusing... I'll give it one more go from the start again...
Do stick with it. It's difficult to get something first time through. Especially when each of the Personas has a different layout and tools. The two to really try to understand are the Develop and Photo Personas. If you can do that, everything else starts to fall into place.
@@RobinWhalley Thank you for a speedy response. I have used PShop7 for many years but now use drone and record RAW so Affinity is my new tool. I've owned it for a couple of years and given up too many times. I'll persevere... Watch this space!
I agree with the other comments about the quality and content of these videos. I had high hopes of learning a lot from them. However, the ones I've sampled so far I've been unable to continue with because the super loud mouse clicks are unbearably annoying. Only one other person commented so I guess my misophonia is a key factor.
The reason I used the clicks was that at the time I had recevied several requests from different people struggling with disabilities. They said the clicks helped them a lot. I've since discontinued using them but there is nothing I can do to remove them from these older videos.
I think you jumped a bit too fast from the develop persona,as you forgot to mention the presets that Affinity applies and how to disable them.I do however look forward to your series

That may be but it absolutely was recorded at 1080 and 30fps. I have had this before where once the upload has been processed it thinks it’s a lower quality. The videos are quite large prior to upload 300-500 mb and I’m confused as to why it’s reported as such a low resolution. I will do some research but there isn’t anything I can do about this one.
OMG!. I thought that damn clicking sound was going to drive me crazy. But otherwise a great video I am surprised you didn't give an explanation of how to do the most common thing people want to do with image editing software which is how to remove the background.
Sorry about the click. I don;t use that anymore. I used to get complaints from some people if I didn't use it and now it drives people mad. This video is to help people become orientated with the software. A lot of people have problems with the software because the Personas aren't clear. It's not intended to explain how to do anything in particular. I'll add removing a background to my list of future videos.
