Legend has it: it was forbidden to be transcribed by anyone or used outside particular services in the Sistine Chapel, but fell prey to one of the earliest examples of music piracy that we know of. A 14 year old boy called Wolfgang Mozart heard it during the Wednesday service, wrote it down from memory and gained considerable fame when he reproduced it back home.

There are parts of this piece of music where I am transcended. I become light. Sharing space with the music itself. Dave Matthews plays this while making breakfast for his family. Fitting since I become Dave's music when I listen to it as well. Absolutely beautiful.

They sing it in the Sistine chapel on Holy Wednesday and other times during Holy Week. Legend has it: it was forbidden to be transcribed by anyone or used outside particular services in the Sistine Chapel, but fell prey to one of the earliest examples of music piracy that we know of. A 14 year old boy called Wolfgang Mozart heard it during the Wednesday service, wrote it down from memory and gained considerable fame when he reproduced it back home.

The highest notes at one time in the church were sang by eunuchs. In 1902 there was a Vatican decree banning them from the Sistine Choir. Alessandro Moreschi joined the Sistine Choir in 1883. He was the last castrate singer ending three centuries of tradition.

People just do not understand today how advanced the Catholic Church made the Holy Roman Empire during its age in Christendom, nor are they taught to understand why: it was not for gold, or glory, or fame, or power, which made the Middle Ages or ANY other age a time of peace and prosperity -- it was the age of natural sciences, of realistic philosophy, of Theology, of learning, and of music. THIS music is the gift from the Mystical Body that knows the truth and loves it -- this music is an embodiment of what made the Catholic Church so good, because it GLORIFIES God and does HOMAGE to the DIVINE CREATOR, using the most POWERFUL form of singing we could ever offer God: polyphonic chant. This music calms the emotions, because it turns men to God and not to their own vanity ("Vanity of vanities and all is vanity - except loving the Lord thy God with thy whole being" - My Imitation of Christ). May all men remember this music and glorify God with it for all ages throughout the world. This music is what we sing at Mass, and Mass IS actually the center of the Catholic Church and the True Sacrifice of Christ, where God's graces may be dispensed to those faithful who attend.
