They need to run,run and run. Hannah needs to develop a mid range shot, period. She only has one move. Give Hieden and Ediger more playing time ! Syd, you need to step up. I like Kylie but she is not making baskets and always seems to be nervous although her defense is good. She needs to come off the bench. Once again, RUN!!
Basic fundamentals! At this level 70 % minimum free throw accuracy . This is where you win or lose close games. People don't focus ! Hannah chucks it up and hopes it goes in. Free throws are practiced by the great players endlessly. You get your heart rate to a point where it doesn't effect the moment . Jen is more into the Zen of things ! It comes down to each and everyone to kick themselves in the butt and overcome fear and fatigue . A mindset of just do what it takes to win . It becomes contagious.
Hard to argue with this. Who is putting in the work, and are they working toward smart goals? It might be considered harsh, but there are some Div. II players who would relish the opportunity to step up and face the pressure of B1G basketball. Similarly, there are some B1G players who are better suited to something a little less competitive. For those who want to focus on academics but be part of athletic competition, there's Div. III basketball. Something for everyone. The Iowa Hawkeyes are B1Gtime; step up, or sumpin'...
ABSOLUTELY---basic fundamentals!!! Nebraska 18/22 (82%) = 18 points Iowa 16/29 (56%) = 16 points >>If we/Iowa would have hit 82% of our 29 free chances....we would have had 23 points on FTs, instead of 16 points on FTs. That's a NINE POINT difference - and it *did* make the difference. College level basketball basics --> if you can't make 78%-80% from the line, you're benched until you care enough about the team, to get your butt to the line and practice-till-you-do.
Jan, what is your problem with McCabe. there's no doubt she's the best shooter on the team. when she's in she does fine. you don't start her. you don't run plays for her. when she does manage to get open she shoots lights out from three point. she's getting more playing time, but you're not focusing on her scoring. when she hits threes that should open up the inside. give her a chance.
I think our depth is one of the strengths of this team. I also think you're right...that we need to start ridin' some horses until they need a blow. To me, depth isn't about everyone gets to play during the first 3 quarters, or balancing everyone's minutes. Depth is about having options when the players on the floor get in foul trouble, need a blow, or are having a poor game.
No chemistry. Get a set lineup to play together. What is with the players holding the ball so long. Practice passing quickly, screening and cutting. "Guilty feet ain't got no rythem."

I understand moral "victories". Ok, that's a lie...I really don't. There are tough losses (i.e., woulda, coulda, shoulda kind of stuff), like we've had, and then butt-kicking losses where you simply acknowledge that the other team was better than you. And, I guess that's where I'm having my problem. I don't see any of the teams that beat us as being better than us, such that hanging with them could be construed as some sort of victory or accomplishment. We've already demonstrated that when we do us, not even Maryland can run away. We beat other teams, they don't beat us. Go Hawks!!
With Lisa Bluder a phone call away you need to have a real heart to heart with her! I guar6 you she tells you to stop making excuses for your players ! Here's the talk to your players you should have . You want to play then prove it to me on the court ! Results matter . Jen did not use the portal except for Lucy I believe . There were hundreds of great offensive players that switched teams . I watch a ton of games and there are unbelievable players she missed ! You need skilled killers on offense and you didn't get any besides Lucy. You have a bunch of hustlers but they don't have that give me the ball and get out of the way mentality. Too late this year unless they individually rise above it. Mommy is making excuses for all of you not to go outside and wrestle with the other kids .
Always some caveat, always some qualifier. Instead of an excuse jar, let's have a challenge jar. Let's have a "do it" jar. Richardetta is young and inexperienced, but I believe in her, and she can clearly compete with these older players. Fredricka is undersized, but we intend to take advantage of her quickness. Sally sometimes struggles on the block, but we're going to take advantage of her midrange jumper that is on-point and unstoppable. And so on. Put the round peg in the round hole and feel good about it. When we try to put a square peg in the round hole, then we have to make excuses for the peg, or for the hole. Go Hawks!!
Jan is too busy trying to be a friend to players...she could do that as an assistant......it doesn't work when you're the head person.....quit trying to please everyone and coach the team
The eye test, analytics, individual interactions, games, and so on. Educators use lots of tools and take in a lot of data as they craft strategies for developing students. Art is what separates outstanding educators from educators who are swimming in tools and data. That artistic expression is bounded by philosophy. WHAT are you trying to accomplish?
Free throws and lay ups. Embarrassing how many they missed in the last three losses. Coach is worried more about her hair than getting the right group on the floor
I'm not sure that's fair, but I feel your pain when it comes to fundamentals. I can even understand choking on the free throw line. It happens. But, layups? First of all, it's not enough to get a shot on goal, regardless of how awkwardly or out of control one throws the ball in the direction of the basket. In those cases, passing to someone else is indicated. And, when we get a point-blank shot on goal, then having it blocked (again, because of poor fundamentals) or missing the shot are just not acceptable outcomes.
So making sexist assumptions about what Coach Jensen cares about is your “hot take.” She deserves criticism-the team needs to take better care of the fundamentals, without a doubt. You can leave the rest of that nonsense out next time.
Thank you Coach J for educating us fans and making us better basketball consumers! Although some seem to not be paying attention. :)
Jan needs to educate her team. Not doing great so far
Every time we closed the gap, Jan would start substituting, then Indiana would start another run and we would get behind again
They need to go on court and treat it as a battlefield. Screw fear.

Jan might be a great assistant but I’m having my doubts as a head coach

The Hawkeyes pace has been really disappointing and the defense has faltered lately
@HawkCentral Please boost the audio before posting, -19dB isn't ideal.
Yes i could hardly hear

By now, the Hawks should have had a set substitution pattern. Until that's established, sadly they will continue to struggle.

@@timothy5988Exactly. She could play good cop, the encourager, when Bluder getting on their butt.

Someone on this team needs to step up & lead! Be aggressive, take shots instead of playing hot potato with passing the ball around.
Sounds like the Sr. and Jr. have some mental basketball issues.

What a strange comment!
