I have the knurled/coated version of that Delike pen. Writes extreme well with the Waverly style nib, and is dead-on reliable.

I have the black version of that Delike. It was called 'Delike New' when I bought it, but more recently, I've seen it as the Hunyuan.
100% honestly, it has one of the best, smoothest, nibs I have.

I really like my Travelers brass pen. Its features: removable clip, friction fit cap, key ring, excellent steel nib, standard short cartridge, etc. However, it's about 3 times the price of this Delike pen. Oh well.
PS: Brass products frequently have a thin lacquer anti-tarnish coating. It keeps them looking good without polishing. (Ask a veteran about shining up their belt buckle.)

Yeah I hear ya, no shortage of cheap pens & I've had many as well. I tried to look for some that seem decent. Of course, ones like the Jinhao 51a or 100 are good pens and there are many others too. I am trying to find a few that seem decent for the price point VS ones that are a race to the bottom when it comes to cost.

I have this in black. Did not like the EF nib so tried my first grind. Got the nib to the point that it would not write and put it aside for a few months. Finally realized I had nothing to lose so got the sand paper out again. Now I have a very smooth sort of stub nib with wide down strokes and narrow horizontal, I really enjoy using this pen now.

I've had the black version of this Delike pocket pen for a couple of years. I also have a slightly longer, slightly thinner all brass model. I don't remember if it was described as a pocket pen or not, but it's definitely closer to the Kaweco Supra in length and girth than to the Sport. In fact, I bought a Supra clip that fits it. I also have a couple of those Sport brass knock-offs, in shiny chrome, brushed chrome, and "antique" brass finishes. At ;east one vendor had those Sport knock-offs listed as "Delike" brand pens, but I'm not sure if they are or not. Sometimes I think they just put words in the titles to generate search results, regardless of what the actuality is.

I just bought one myself, the price is ok and as a pen it is one of the few pens produced in China that realistically does not copy, or is not massively inspired by other brands (not more than the rest of the brands in the world in any case) , so in conclusion, it looks good and maybe it writes just as well.

I got the DeLike Brass pen through a Truphae subscription box (a great thing--got many inks and pens that I had never considered, but have certainly enjoyed). My only quibble with the Delike is that sometimes the section comes loose a turn or or two in my pocket. Writes great though.

Interesting video, informative as always. Kaweco Sport in brass is quite expensive. Disappointingly light. In my world not really worth the money. Lol personal story: my pen is a karas AL13 decograph. I find the pen boring. I've been using it for over two years every day, every truck's paperwork, as a commercial tire guy ( meaning big dirty tires, out doors work)
I've bought about 6 pens looking for love and sold 4.I have my al13 decograph and my goodblue which broke during an accidental capped waist high drop ( after dropping my al13 deco dozens and only having to live with a scratch on the finish)
Twice, to gripe about how fragile my goodblue was, I flug my al13 decograph across a truck bay in to the hopper of the next garbage truck but that was the the same as casually dropping it. Nothing breaks that pen while it's capped and that's why it's actually not boring. Ask me for a picture of the pen would ya?

I like your channel. I like an approach you take on pens. Engineer talking about his pen-related hobby. But seeing advertisement of aliexpress in a context of buying known-to-produce-a-copies brands (delike) and obvious knockoffs ("Lamy")... IDK. I feel disappointed =(
About this "Lamy": Indeed, Lamy has produced limited edition in collaboration with Line Friends several years ago. And it became popular pens to make a knockoffs. I know what I'm talking about. I have one of those "Lamy Safari Brown" pens. It will be interesting to see a review on this one. Especially with comparison of real Safari and this fake one.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 роки тому +1

I have reviewed several pens & other accessories I've gotten from Aliexpress several times. Yes, there are items on Ali that are flat out copies, I did my deep dive on the WS699 VS Pilot 823. These pens can also be bought on other online platforms as well. I ordered some that are "similar" to others, and other ones that are unique designs. Many people order from Aliexpress so this may help people who order to get details prior to purchase and save a few bucks. This really isnt any different than when other retailers or makers send me stuff to review. I'm not getting paid to do these reviews (other than ad revenue I get form UA-cam), and I don't "make a cut" off the sales - as far as I've been informed so far. I try my best to show whatever pens I get for how it is and layout the good & the bad.
For the Lamy, I'll pick it apart as best I can. I dont own a Safari (never been a fan) but have a AL Star, so will see. I am in contact with someone in the local Vancouver Pen Club who has a bunch of Safari's so getting input/details from her to get more info to share. I'll also be encouraging viewers to leave info if they've had similar pens and leave their thoughts so others can read prior to purchase.

@@Doodlebud, Hey! I feel like there are a bit of misunderstanding or something.
I have nothing against Aliexpress in general. I order stuff from it times to times. I don't have any prejudices about Chinese products as well. There are a lot of awesome Chinese in-home products. However, I hate knockoffs and "exact copies". I believe, those make a lot of damage to the industry. Still, I'm OK with people buying copies and knockoffs if they know exactly what do they buy. This is why I'm sure community should talk about those. And this is why I appreciate you work on videos about all those pens.
What I'm not OK in this particular video is a context. You advertise an online store in the context of buying knockoffs. Like "Look what I found on XXX! It's some weird Lamy. Gonna make a review on it later". But it's not a Lamy. This is the only problem here. The context. No matter what store there would be. It could be ebay or even amazon with the same exact effect.
I liked the rest of this video. It even features a pen that seems to be original design, even though it's delike (AFAIK, it's the brand of the same company as Moonman is). I'm really looking forward to see your review on the rest of those pens. It would be really awesome if you somehow get genuine matte Safari for review. I have a collection of Safari's and several knockoffs so feel free to ask questions about those if you have any.
      Thank you for your work!

No worries buddy. I've been in contact with someone here who has quite a large collection of legit and fake Lamy pens. So far it seems like its legit but we are going to meet so I can get some of her pens in my hand to find the small differences between the proper Lamy pens and the fakes. I've found a few things already, but knowing me, I found a few more tiny little Easter eggs that I "think" can be definitive tiny details that tell they story. There are some things that seem odd, but several key things that make me think its legit as well. I messaged Lamy directly to ask them if these ones are the real deal, so will hopefully get a reply. Will try to do my best to confirm these ones. I've seen they now carry what seem to be other legit pens: Platinum 3776, Pilot 74 & 823 even! Seems like they are trying to adjust and carry big name brand lines now which I find very interesting! If this Lamy is the real deal, hopefully that can confirm the other high end pens as well

this is still my daily driver i change the grip to the groove type, it writes way smoother and better than overpriced junk MB 149 and also better than my delta oversized, it only loses out to my CH 92 & C 823
The most important element for a pen is it's writing quality (the rest are secondary and nobody cares about the material uses as functionality > aesthetic, all the time ! ) and the quality level goes as below (excludes ancient over flexible nib pens),
first = almost all Japanese fountain pens especially by the top 3 brands
second = most china pens and maybe a few german ones (older models as the new ones especially pelikan sucks!)
third = the rest of the pens
