Rahdo I love it when you do your lists. Every time you do I stumble on one or two games I've never heard of and before I know it I'm scrambling to order them. Especially since my wife is also my primary gaming partner. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely agree with you about Roll for the Galaxy! My wife and I generally play it in 2's or 3's because we can knock out a game in 20 minutes easily after having played it so many times. Definitely one of my top games!
You did say to comment on your podcast at the end, this was the easiest path. I listened to your Podcast while creating English paste-ups for my Polish discount copy of STRIFE. It was a perfect accompaniment. Well done good sir. More Rahdo is always a good thing. One request: Go buy at least one transition sound from Audible or whatever sound company you prefer. The podcast has a loud crazy click between segments.
I've been playing a lot of Red7 and Escape the curse of the temple lately. I'm surprised you didn't include the later in your list. Also Dias de Radio (only available in Argentina, AFAIK) is a great short storytelling game but it drains me so much that I can hardly think of it as a filler.
Matias Montes i'd love to try DdD, hope they put out an english version some day. escape is wonderful, but as i mentioned in the podcast, too much setup time and we've played it to death! :)
I've just catched up 3 fillers, that I picked for this year vacation and to play at the beach : Mr. Jack Pocket (2010) Sushi Go! (2013) Citadels (2000) Why those? -Those games are fun to play with 2p only -Those games are portable enough to take it to plane/on the beach -citadels and sushi can be played by more players still being portable One other game that I am going to take on vacation is splendor, just pack it into the foil bag and remove all unnecessary tokens :) Last summer no1 was Carcasonne, As the summer is close, this list might be useful! If Rahdo knows more games that are portable, fun and complex enough to be replayable I would like to see a top10 video! :)
shatnershairpiece it's Rahdo Talks Through it turns up if you do a search in iTunes, but if it's not for you, you can add it manually from podcast.rahdo.com :)
Im impressed that you can go through a game of Roll for the galaxy in 20 min! In my group we usually take more than an hour :) These days my favourite filler is Parade! A really nice little brain-burning abstract!
I know this is an old comment etc. but yes I strongly agree that Roll is ~20 mins at two player with a few games under your belt playing with everything but the Alien Die/Deal modules. So dark blue/orange/black etc. all in including goals if you want some more variation/direction. 3 player would make it closer to 30 mins but only due to conversation / passing the bag around when there's lots of exploring.
Kinda surprised not to see Pandemic: The Cure on here anywhere. You really liked it on your run and, for me anyway, how elegantly all the systems fit together has made me appreciate it more and more since it hit the scene.
Roll is amazing it's in our top of all time with Suburbia somewhere in our top 10 lol. I would like if you would make a best cheap top 10 or 20 games, like less than 40 $ I'm sure a lot of people would love that. :)
cool list. sadly, I played only a few of them (luckily the #1) But I am wondering if this 'filler' category shouldn't be split in 2. long and short ones ... there are a few 5-15 minute games I like (genre zombie-dice, qwixx) which I consider filler, which couldn't really be in the same category as Roll ftg or pandemic:the cure.
For me my top 5 is #1.Star Realms, #2. Samurai Spirit, and #3. Tiny Epic Defenders. #4. Love letter batman also entertaining as a filler. Dare top mention #5. Baseball highlights 2045 as the mini game only takes 5 minutes. Ive played 2-3 games and didnt have to do the whole world series.
You seem confused on the rules of Dungeon Roll - any hero dice can defeat any single monster dice - but the color correct hero can take out *any number* of monster dice on the same floor :)
***** You mentioned you could be left without a hero die to deal with a specific monster die - but so long as you're playing correctly I agree with your list here ;)
@rahdo:Thanks again for a great video :-) Probably not the first with a suggestion, but since you and Jen play many games together i would be interested in a list of best 2p games. I see many of these games in your BGG list, but also see 7 wonders for instance, which i feel is not really a 2p game. So just looking at 2 players, what 10 games would you pick? I guess the focus would be on "playing with your girlfriend" kind of games. Thanks and KUTGW! :-)
Arno maassen that's on my list of potential top10 vids, but they're chosen by voters, so we'll see if they ever pick that option. but in the meantime, you can always check games.rahdo.com which is a list of every game i own, ranked, to get an idea of what any top10 would be :)
Interesting stuff but i really wish you would show footage (even still images) of how the game looks laid out, the components etc while you review each game. It would really help to get an idea of the type of game each one is
Antoine Grimond sorry, that'd take a lot of work to do editing and whatnot, and I generally go path of least resistance with my videos (hence all shot in one take, with no edits at all)
We are now in 2019 what are your top filler games now? I want to get some games for my 7 year old. Her favourite games are - 1. Sushi go 2. Sleeping queen 3. Dvonn 4. Patchwork 5. Tzaar 6. King of Tokyo I was thinking of getting Jaipur, Biblios, Forbidden desert and Clank. Please suggest some nice games for a family of 3 players :)
Good Filler Games for Families: Titans Race Sea of Clouds King Domino Beyond Baker Street Broom Service (Card Game but the board game is cool too) Flip City Brutal Kingdom Traders of Osaka
since you posted this in the filler video, cubist is the better choice for that as i don't really think sagrada would qualify as a filler. but of the 2, i think i like sagrada more
smoothcriminal28 Yeah I think you're right. I always play it as a filler, but most of the time it lasts longer than that ^^. You don't notice it though (which I guess makes it a good game).
Are you sure you got the rules for Dungeon Roll right? You don't need a thief to open a chest or the specific hero to defeat the monsters. All party members can defeat one non-matching dungeon die each.
At around 20:10, you mention having to use your paladin to defeat the goblin because you don't have anything else that could beat it. Or maybe you just got lucky and rolled a lot of paladins lol.
I am doing a real-time comments Siberia The Card Game - looks good I am going to check that one Tessen - real -time card games...for me I'd pass on that Cubist - mmmm Biblios - boring cover for a game...might be good The Institute Of Magical Arts - never heard of it, one to check I think Tiny Epic Defenders - I had a chance to play this last weekend...should be good Dungeon Roll - mmm sounds fun Jaipur - I like this one a good one for Rummy fans Capo dei Capi - oh, another to check Roll For The Galaxy - ok I think fillers also depend upon the make up of the people you are playing with - I played King Of Tokyo in a group with a guy who was a real rules lawyer type and the game spluttered almost to a standstill at times because of him
+Jason Fisher for us, the setup is too long for a filler. it takes long enough that when we want to play the game, we end up playing it 3 or 4 times so that when all is said and done we've played for an hour. for me, it can't be a filler if it takes more than a minute to setup :)
I loved it when Jen said yay during Roll for the Galaxy!! Lol.. Showed how much you both love the game.
Rahdo I love it when you do your lists. Every time you do I stumble on one or two games I've never heard of and before I know it I'm scrambling to order them. Especially since my wife is also my primary gaming partner. Keep up the good work!
Rahdo you are so entertaining to listen. Ive been through a lot of the board game review channesl but I find your content the most engaging :D
Absolutely agree with you about Roll for the Galaxy! My wife and I generally play it in 2's or 3's because we can knock out a game in 20 minutes easily after having played it so many times. Definitely one of my top games!
Woohoo! Podcast coming soon! Looking forward to it.
Great list Richard! I was glad to see Jaipur and Biblios on this list! Two of my persona favs :) can't wait for the podcast!
You did say to comment on your podcast at the end, this was the easiest path.

Eight Minute Empire (Legends) is probably my favorite filler. Quick and very fulfilling!
You banged out a very interesting list there. Always informative and useful. Thank you, and I wish you success in your new podcast. :)
My number 1 filler game at the moment is Scrimish: Pillars of Eternity.
Surprising strategy and depth in such a simple card game - brilliant!
"Nothing personal" I see what you did there... lol
Majdi Al-Jazrawe i was wondering if anyone would notice :)
Nice lol
I've been playing a lot of Red7 and Escape the curse of the temple lately. I'm surprised you didn't include the later in your list.
Also Dias de Radio (only available in Argentina, AFAIK) is a great short storytelling game but it drains me so much that I can hardly think of it as a filler.

Loved this list. Thanks for sharing!
I've just catched up 3 fillers, that I picked for this year vacation and to play at the beach :
Mr. Jack Pocket (2010)
Sushi Go! (2013)
Citadels (2000)
Why those?
-Those games are fun to play with 2p only
-Those games are portable enough to take it to plane/on the beach
-citadels and sushi can be played by more players still being portable
One other game that I am going to take on vacation is splendor, just pack it into the foil bag and remove all unnecessary tokens :) Last summer no1 was Carcasonne,
As the summer is close, this list might be useful!
If Rahdo knows more games that are portable, fun and complex enough to be replayable I would like to see a top10 video! :)
Fallenstar37 eventually i'll be doing a top10 travel games, not sure when tho
What is your podcast called? It does not show up in a search on my podbay app.
shatnershairpiece it's
Rahdo Talks Through
it turns up if you do a search in iTunes, but if it's not for you, you can add it manually from podcast.rahdo.com :)
Thanks for making this! Another great video.
Im impressed that you can go through a game of Roll for the galaxy in 20 min! In my group we usually take more than an hour :)
These days my favourite filler is Parade! A really nice little brain-burning abstract!
Tore van Kooten oh yeah, an average round for us is easily under a minute. only thing that really slows us down is exploring :)
I know this is an old comment etc. but yes I strongly agree that Roll is ~20 mins at two player with a few games under your belt playing with everything but the Alien Die/Deal modules. So dark blue/orange/black etc. all in including goals if you want some more variation/direction. 3 player would make it closer to 30 mins but only due to conversation / passing the bag around when there's lots of exploring.

aron craig that one will get mentioned in the podcast :)
aron craig I would be surprised if that game could be played in less than 45 minutes
Rich...How long does a game of Patchwork take for you guys?
smoothcriminal28 only played it twice, but the 2nd time was definitely around the 30 minute mark
Roll is amazing it's in our top of all time with Suburbia somewhere in our top 10 lol. I would like if you would make a best cheap top 10 or 20 games, like less than 40 $ I'm sure a lot of people would love that. :)
You once stated that Agricola was your all time favorite game. I'm surprised All Creatures Big & Small is not on the list. :)
Silver Fang yup, i mentioned that one in the podcast :)
cool list. sadly, I played only a few of them (luckily the #1) But I am wondering if this 'filler' category shouldn't be split in 2. long and short ones ... there are a few 5-15 minute games I like (genre zombie-dice, qwixx) which I consider filler, which couldn't really be in the same category as Roll ftg or pandemic:the cure.
Haggis
FlowerFall
Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule
Probably the three fillers I go to first. (I don't have Biblios.)
No links to the runthroughs? :( now I have to search for them :P
Pablo Pizarro hehe, sorry about that! :)
have you already done a top 10 best looking games? like only in terms of the asthetics. that would be really nice.
derbibermann that's on the list of potential future top10s :)
Have you played Hanabi? A co-op filler!
yup, cool game, but i like beyond baker street better
Can we get a new list of good fillers? I love Biblios, mint works, sushi go, roll for the Galaxy, and I need more haha
you can always check ranked.rahdo.com and see how i rate every game i own
You seem confused on the rules of Dungeon Roll - any hero dice can defeat any single monster dice - but the color correct hero can take out *any number* of monster dice on the same floor :)
kleedrac oops, that is how i play... what did i say??? :(
***** You mentioned you could be left without a hero die to deal with a specific monster die - but so long as you're playing correctly I agree with your list here ;)
kleedrac aaargh, that was very poorly worded on my part, i must say :(
@rahdo:Thanks again for a great video :-) Probably not the first with a suggestion, but since you and Jen play many games together i would be interested in a list of best 2p games. ***** Where can i vote? :-)
Arno maassen voting is something people who backed my kickstater fundraising campaign get to do! :)
would you please provide a link to the podcast?
Silver Fang podcast.rahdo.com :)
Very nice review although I'm surprised San Juan wasn't there since you like RFTG so much.
Brian Downs that one will get mentioned in the podcast :)
I'm shocked you didn't include Escape: the Cursed Temple!
too much setup time to be considered filler imo
Interesting stuff but i really wish you would show footage (even still images) of how the game looks laid out, the components etc while you review each game. It would really help to get an idea of the type of game each one is
Antoine Grimond sorry, that'd take a lot of work to do editing and whatnot, and I generally go path of least resistance with my videos (hence all shot in one take, with no edits at all)
***** good for you - people can apply a little common sense here and simply search for playthroughs or images or whatever
We are now in 2019 what are your top filler games now? I want to get some games for my 7 year old. Her favourite games are -
1. Sushi go
2. Sleeping queen
3. Dvonn
4. Patchwork
5. Tzaar
6. King of Tokyo

Good Filler Games for Families:
Titans Race
Sea of Clouds
King Domino
Beyond Baker Street
Broom Service (Card Game but the board game is cool too)
Flip City
Brutal Kingdom
Traders of Osaka
Great idea for you podcast to tie it into a video if it works and makes sense.
I have a idea for your podcast's name
"Rahdo Rambles Through"
Where would you rank cosmic run as a filler?
would you rather play Cubist or Sagrada the stained glass dice game?
since you posted this in the filler video, cubist is the better choice for that as i don't really think sagrada would qualify as a filler. but of the 2, i think i like sagrada more
A lot of good games here, and good tips for me and my girlfriend.
I would have added the game "Jambo" though sometimes, it can last longer than 20-30 minutes ^^
As much as I love Jambo... It is no filler! That's a meaty game, I had some sessions that lasted like an hour and a half !!
smoothcriminal28 Yeah I think you're right. I always play it as a filler, but most of the time it lasts longer than that ^^. You don't notice it though (which I guess makes it a good game).
Exactlty. Truthfully I don't think I've ever played a game of Jambo in under an hour.
tiny epic defenders i found quite dull. you just move the counter back and forth.
Are you sure you got the rules for Dungeon Roll right? You don't need a thief to open a chest or the specific hero to defeat the monsters. All party members can defeat one non-matching dungeon die each.
+Luiginumber1 correct. did i say otherwise in the video? if so, what's the timestamp and we'll get it noted up :)
At around 20:10, you mention having to use your paladin to defeat the goblin because you don't have anything else that could beat it. Or maybe you just got lucky and rolled a lot of paladins lol.
It's official. I gotta get capo dei capi.
Capo Dei Capi has officially joined my Shelf family.
I am doing a real-time comments
Siberia The Card Game - looks good I am going to check that one
Tessen - real -time card games...for me I'd pass on that
Cubist - mmmm
Biblios - boring cover for a game...might be good
The Institute Of Magical Arts - never heard of it, one to check I think
Tiny Epic Defenders - I had a chance to play this last weekend...should be good
Dungeon Roll - mmm sounds fun
Jaipur - I like this one a good one for Rummy fans
Capo dei Capi - oh, another to check
Roll For The Galaxy - ok
I think fillers also depend upon the make up of the people you are playing with - I played King Of Tokyo in a group with a guy who was a real rules lawyer type and the game spluttered almost to a standstill at times because of him
Quick video... 30 min. hahaha! You'll never change and please don't :)
François Carbonneau it's a filler video :)
'mugles' lol !
Why are neither of the escape games on here? The set-up and take down doesn't take more than 20 minutes...
+Jason Fisher for us, the setup is too long for a filler. it takes long enough that when we want to play the game, we end up playing it 3 or 4 times so that when all is said and done we've played for an hour.
for me, it can't be a filler if it takes more than a minute to setup :)
In hindsight, Fuse at #1?
+Marlon Kruis i think it would have definitely ranked high on the list. but as i said, this is a list that will always be in a lot of flux
But will hopefully never include Fluxx.
indeed. i tried fluxx once and will not be trying it again :)
what about Love Letters?
not very good 2p
dull two player game . . ..it takes 5 minutes max. no reason to keep playing.
To me, any game shorter than 90 minutes is a filler game lel.
Lol
Siberia
Tessen
Cubist
Biblios
Magical Arts
Dungeon something
Epic Defenders
Jaipur
Capo de Capi
Roll for the Galaxy
Rahdo, I thought you like patchwork...
Matthew Tsang that one will get mentioned in the podcast :)
What are the games on your 2 Player shelf? (Akrotiri, Lost Cities, etc.) Your head is in the way :)
Mark Palframan lol... there's always games.rahdo.com for a full list of everything :)
yeah, I just can't read what's to the right of 1955 and what's to the right of Patchwork.
Mark Palframan to the right of 1955 is limes, and to the right of patchwork is medici vs stozzi :)
Thanks Richard :)
I hate Roll for the Galaxy, that game is so boring to me
nice list Rhado. i disagree with tiny epic defenders though. that game is simply terrible. The art is bad, the choices are bad, & it's just boring
Maui Chris LOVE it! :)
