Sorely underrated Musical, different and suffered as such at the time. but Jolson was very much on form in it, at a time his career had waned. Many good songs, deserves more viewing
Strange and fascinating. And weird things like Frank Morgan - the future Wizard of Oz - waking up in a strange bed and murmuring 'There's no place like home'! Seriously, it's interesting to see Rodgers and Hart stretching themselves with experimental elements.
That's the great film comedian Harry Langdon as Jolson's antagonist. His usual role was a childish, Pee Wee Herman kind of simpleton, and some of that is on display here. But he delivers his socialist agitprop lines very well -- a little man waiting for the revolution to make him a big shot.

The part at 3:36 is my fave. Such a strange movie.

The sound is pretty bad; you have to listen closely to understand the words.
Why the hell are they picking on the socialist? yea he calls them names and part of the problem, but Is he oppressing them? what the hell?
