It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. That is why these old singles are better than modern bikes for, enjoying the countryside. And, it sounds lovely too! The Velocett is very well made, and should be just as reliable as modern bikes! Providing, you keep it serviced & run over it with a spanner or two, to stop bits falling off. I bet you get very good m.p.g, to. 🔧🇬🇧
@@truethought369 hey man yea agree with the above it’s bits coming loose that’s the issue. I think it’s a case of threads get worn etc. on brand new bikes stuff rarely comes loose. Mpg not too sure. I did that trip of 115 miles on one tank of fuel. Can’t remember how much I had left. Issue is it’s such fun to ride I often just want to rip it open in every gear. But if you ride slowly mpg should be ok. The huge carb probably doesn’t help. Other velocettes probably get way better mpg.
Another wonderful on-board video to brighten my day! Thanks so much for sharing the beauty of the English countryside, enhanced by the roar of the mighty KTT. Some responses to your queries: For "satnav" on longer trips, I've used my cell phone with the TomTom GO navigation app installed. This does not rely on live internet data connection as the maps are all stored on the phone memory. Very handy to have running while riding/driving along as it displays traffic slow downs up the road (if there is an internet signal available), fuel stations approaching, turn by turn display with voice announcements (you'd need earphones into helmet on the bike to hear those). Since you said you had a tank bag, just get one with a clear plastic pouch to hold phone in position/protect it from the weather and see it while underway and connect a battery bank to keep it powered up for hours on end. Pity the Velos will not be making the TT trip, but I can understand why. Perhaps once you've experienced the event and got a more realistic view, it can be done for a future trip. I've spent a lot of time reading up on Velo history in some of the great books out there on the matter...they discuss a famous work shed on the TT circuit they always used, complete with a intercom line they rigged up at their entry gate to be sure to control who was walking into their space....had to keep those Norton guys at bay! The com line remained in place for decades after they ended their racing. There was/is a bench somewhere in the area with a dedication to one of the Goodman's (was it Percy?) after his passing just a day prior to their races. I can look up the details if you are keen on it.... Did you hear there were two Velocettes (350 and 500) in this years Classic TT event...from one team from NZ. Some brief footage of fly-bys from a spectator posted on FB "Velocette Motorcycles" page. They were posting competitive times against other singles during the practise sessions...unfortunately the actual race sessions got truncated to one race due to weather issues, and they had to chose one bike to run (only one rider on the team)....the 500 had a breakdown on its first lap and that was that.
"Another wonderful on-board video to brighten my day! Thanks so much for sharing the beauty of the English countryside, enhanced by the roar of the mighty KTT". Many thanks tornado. @@velofan. My MSS is doing great. Had it on a few 200+ mile rides recently. Starting on 1st-5th kick most times. Have noted an issue if I get stuck in traffic, not moving for 2-3 minutes at a time, idle starts to stumble and this gradually get worse until I'm moving along again. Found carb float bowl (new Amal concentric type) too hot to touch with bare fingers when this is happening. I think the carb is getting too hot and making the fuel boil. This carb mounts directly to and very close to the head, no manifold. I do have a thick Tufnol "insulator" type gasket fitted but know from experience on my Commando these do not do a great job stopping the heat. Older carb types might not be so troubled b/c the fuel bowl is mounted away from carb body. I have a rubber, flanged carb mount coming from RGM....this is a solution the Commando guys use to great success...completely isolates carb from the head heat & vibration.
@@TornadoCAN99 sounds good. I have seen on the thruxton and venom sometimes people fit this long aluminium inlet manifold with heat fins machined into it. Not sure how much it helps but bound to help a bit. I think a big single like an mss needs good air flow over the head and barrel to keep its cooler so assume like you say once stationary it’s getting hot. If Canada gets real cold where you are be interested to see if the same issue arrises when the temp is say 5-10 degrees c outside
