I was stationed in Berlin 1969-70, had an apartment on Paulene Strasse. An MP had the room above mine and a cook had the one below. Great times free wheeling for first 5 months, then got cleared to work in communication center. It was the worst winter in 100 years.
I thought that first winter was normal. The second winter was easier and then I understood why even the Berliners were complaining about the winter of '69-'70.
Thank you for sharing these videos. I arrived in West Berlin in July 1969 and left i n February, 1971. I was in the 287th MP Company...2nd Platoon. Ron Whittemore
FSB here, too. I was in Berlin from 1-1-70 to 3-6-72. I was supposed to live in Andrew Co. B, but a couple of other guys and I moved out and lived on Drakestrasse. Good duty out in Rudow and some of the best friends i ever had. I'm still in contact with a few of them now in 2021. The 287th wasn't in Andrews, when I was there to the best of my knowledge. The whole place was basically set aside for FSB personnel. Great pictures and lots of memories.
Was at Mc Nair, C 2 6 in 68 and 69, married at chapel Aug 10 68, what a great town to honeymoon in. Drove truck and was company handyman( repaired lots of broken glass, German beer could do that) Rode that duty train several times , always something when they switched engines to pull through "zone" We did go back in 96 but guards would not let us in. thank you for putting these videos on for us old "grunts"
My Dad, Arthur C. Jenvey (Art Jenvey) was an MP with the 287th in 1968-1970. I lived there as a 12-13 year old, was a student at Berlin American High School
No, this series starts at the Replacement Battalion, across a side street from the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. Soldiers in that era were flown to Rhein/Main Airport with generic orders for Germany and then were sorted out with orders to specific units. I slept in my uniform there for three nights before being given my ticket to Berlin on the Duty Train (Militaerzug). The trainshed is of a standard Reichsbahn design, I suspect.
I spent about a month about Gutleut before shipping out to Berlin on the duty train. I worked up at IG Farben during that time and rode the streetcar to and from work. Interesting to see your pictures of the place. Thanks for this series of videos. Lots of memories are returning to my old brain.
I was tdy to Berlin in 1960 and had to fly because we weren't allowed to take the train and we could not go on the army bus tours into east berlin which irritated me...nice pics:)
Robert Booker Great video I was there from 69 to 70 Andrews barrickts a cook and I used to cook for the civilian clothes spooks in the early hours great memories married my wife spent eight months living in Berlin intend to go back to visit 50 years ; hope to get back soon and visit

@@kevinblake7078 My Name is Jeff Brown. (Sorry, for the title nickname). I was from 80' to 84' in 2/6. There was a Currywurst stand in the back of McNair--back gate (near the Motorpool) Everyone on the there enjoyed the Currywurst - Sure missed those years😎

This series was originally intended for the reactivated 287th MP's but it has been a bonus to hear from so many others -- veterans and Berliners.
