Great video! I'm helping my oldest son to apply for his first grading (classic guitar) and the whole process to apply was a bit confusing until I found you :) Thank you!! P.S. I'm sure you did well in your exam!

Hi, I'm currently doing the grade 8 in electric guitar and will be submitting my video soon. But I'm a bit confused as to whether or not you are allowed to use a metronome for the scales section. I have emailed LCME direct, but the anwers do still not make it that clear. My issue, is that the book states the scales need to played at 160bpm and the arpeggios at 126bpm. Which is fine with a metronome. But doing this without one and trying to stay completely in time seems counter intuitive to me. Would you know the answer?
Hi mate, sorry - not sure to be honest just because I can't see anything explicit about it on the website. I would say that you don't need to have the metronome on but perhaps just use it at the start (before you play) the technical to give you an idea of the speed perhaps. I think you are probably allowed to use it throughout though if you'd prefer just as long as the examiner can hear your scales clearly. Not sure that's much help?
Hi Charlie , thank you for your useful videos , they are such well explained ! Just need to ask you about the recorded exams of electric guitar. In the section of the lead playing we need to use the backing tracks of that are provided by lcme/rgt please ?
Hello Brenda, no problem - you are very welcome. For the recorded exams on electric guitar, you would select a backing track and lead chart from the electric guitar book and then record over one of the backing tracks from here on the LCM website: lcmebooks.org/v2/pg/guitar-electric.php?pg=electric&sp=audio Hope that helps

Hi Charlie. Your videos are very helpful. The online exams (from Grade 1 up to 8) have 5 components (Fingerboard Knowledge, Performance, Musical Knowledge, Accompaniment and Aural Assessment). What about the Aural Assessment when someone takes the recorded exams?
Hi Christos, thank you for your kind words. With regard to the recorded exams - there is no aural assessment element because it would be too difficult to implement with a recorded exam. Hope that helps?
Cheers Gavan, this really depends on the grade. The example in the video is really just to demonstrate how to record it and what is involved in process. In a standard face to face exam, you would hear the melody three times (the first of which isn't assessed) and then you perform over the remaining two repeats. In a recorded exam, you only have two repeats to play over. It's probably best to not necessarily follow exactly what I played for the accompaniment but you should check the requirements for each grade. In order to obtain the best marks for recorded exams, I would imagine that both repeats should contain some sort of variation and not just the one strum per bar as I did. Does that make any sense/help at all?
Hi there, thanks for this video, it's very useful. I have a question about the grade 5 acoustic guitar exam and I'm not sure who to ask - for rhythm study 1 (C minor), the third line starts with 2 bars of rests, but there are Gm and Cm chord symbols above these bars, also an mp dynamic marking - if these are silent bars then why the chord symbols and dynamics? It made me wonder if there is a misprint, but I could be overthinking it. I'm helping a student prepare for the recorded exam so it would be good to be sure. Any advice much appreciated!

I got the below response ISoM
For recorded exams, you will first need to register on our online portal to pay for exams and view the results. If you have not registered, please can you kindly register on the website attached below?
lcme.internationalschoolofmusicians.org
Once you have registered, go into the new booking and section and select recorded as the exam type.
Select which exam you wish to enter for and pay for the exam.
Once the exam has been paid for, go into the upcoming exam section and select upload as you can then upload the relevant recordings for the exam.
Upload the recordings and when you are ready to submit the exam to be marked, press the submit button and then exam will then be sent to be marked by an examiner.
I hope this helps with your query.
