I've wanted to ask you this for a while. I recall you saying a while back that something like "softbaiting is like czech nymphing". I get that. It's largely about dead drift fishing, with a lift at the end. But my question is this; why are softbaiting rods short, when fly rods for Czech/Euro nymphing tend to be long (10'+)? Wouldn't a longer rod offer more control in all circumstances?
Hi, Yes we would agree that longer is better which is why we have had a migration to 7'6" & longer. We are developing a 9ft rod which will be here this winter. We are trying to feel the subtle take at distances between 30 and 60m and depths of 5-10m. We are constantly testing and looking for the next breakthrough products. If you want to know more feel free to call the shop 03 366 9885, If you're around Christchurch come in and meet the team and feel what we consider to be the best for this fishing. Hope that helps.
Has anyone fishing the canals tried long trotting with an egg fly under a sliding float? I used to murder salmon like this in the UK, using shrimp as bait. Dead drift every time (providing you mend the line constantly).
Top review 👍

I'm in the UK! But if I ever return to NZ where I have lots of family (including ChCh) I will certainly visit.
