Wow! This was the golden era of choirs! This gospel music is superb. I am glad that we can still hear it on cd's, vinyl & UA-cam because choirs today certainly cannot match this quality.
I wouldn't say that, it certainly was great. But to say what your saying is not condemning choirs but God, you are basically saying Christ isnt ministering as good. Preachers and psalmist die everyday, Christ will provide a new person in their place. Jesus is the only one who can't be replaced.
No, I'm saying that Gospel singers are not as trained, developed as they were decades ago. It is not simply a matter of style. This is not about God's ability but singers not applying themselves to developing their vocal gifts and range as they did decades ago. Of course, this is an opinion but I don't think one would have a strong case comparing today's singers to the Gospel legends: Hawkins, Morrison, Cleveland, Walker, Donald Vails, Velma Willis, Aretha Franklin, Sarah Jordan Powell, Jesse Campbell, etc.

But there are still Tamela Manns, Tasha Cobbs, Kierra Sheard, etc are pretty good. Now it's harder on the men's side. I do like William McDowell and William Murphy, even though McDowell usually doesn't display as much range, his worship material is magnificent.

I know that Tamela Mann is talented; I just don't care for her style. I would rather here Velma Willis, Shirley Miller, Yvette Flunder, Louise Candy Davis or Maxine Jones. I'm glad that you love good Gospel music too.

I believe i first saw this clip back in the late 80's but even now as i did than i still have to rate it as one of the greatest live performances of all time- in any musical genre. The truly great vocalist have that unique ability to re-write a song while they are performing it and make it even better- and that is exactly what Pamela Crawford has done in this recording-she took a song which was already great in it's own right and made it even greater-no small feat. After all these years and after hearing this live recording countless times, i still find myself saying,"Wow, what a voice!!!!!!" Pamela Crawford slaughtered this song back in ‘86, and I’m listening this song again in ‘24 after hearing dozens of covers, and in my opinion, NONE! comes close to her original simply because she owned the song in the way that she delivered it. It was raw, it was passion filled, and above all else it was her personal testimony. She wasn’t trying to be pretty or vocally excellent, she just had to get the message out which she did and some. The so called ‘gospel singers’ of today need to return to the old landmark when it comes the singing and the delivery of the message. Cut the performance and return to singing from the heart to bring about hope and conviction in equal measure.
