I’m working on a review of The Orchard Keeper by Cormac McCarthy. It has a definite Faulkner influence as the editor he worked with was Faulkner’s also.

But take a look at Louise Erdrich. Her characters are very well-drawn. Pretty much anything she wrote is worth the time, but, "The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse" is one I'll twist arms to get people to read. .

@It's Too Late to Apologize It's really funny, but I can't tell you how/why because spoilers. My parents read it to me when I was a kid (questionable parenting choices were made🤣) and I didn't understand all of it but still found it entertaining and cared about the characters. As an adult - when I DID get all the details - it just had more to love. Might not be everyone's taste as it's pretty irreverent and certainly has that dry British humour, but if that's your thing, it's great!

Well ... a couple of novels that end where they begin but are world-class are Finnegans Wake by James Joyce, and Dahlgren by Samuel R. Delany. Just saying. Yeah, it's possible, but those are circular novels, head games, and not intended for a mature audience.
That said: -I hope we get your thoughts on The Crossing someday (McCarthy’s real jewel!) -If you haven’t read Flynn’s short story What do you do? Retitled: The Grownup, you’re in for a real treat. Apparently it’s been an optioned for a movie now.

I've only read one Graham Greene book - Travels with My Aunt - but it's a lifelong favourite so I'd definitely recommend it!
