In one corner, we've got Ritto Boys: Ryder Rivadeneyra & Coleman Epperson. They know guac is extra but they don't care - they're here to suffocate you in a warm tortilla of extra spicy serves and double chicken.
On the other hand, we have Texas' finest: Double Clutch: Fred Hinkle & Rahul Murthy. Everything's bigger in Texas, except these guys. They're small but deadly. They will square dance you back home to where you came from with more sauce than you put on your ribs at the BBQ.
Who's got what it takes to be Natty Champs?!?
I feel like the serve is way too ridiculous. Just a game of serve
They need to just do gentleman's serve, to get better rallies
Game of serves. Exactly. Super boring.
Agreed. But it's easy to fix if you want to play yourself. When I play with friends and family the rules are usually that you can't serve the ball to hard to the point it goes over the recipients head and also that serves much be more straight. Not this crap where the hardest and most unpredictable serve is the winning point.
@@sam.weber17 problem with gentleman’s is that one you get good enough it’ll always be a point for the receiving team
Tuned in for about a 5 min stretch of this video and saw maybe 4-5 made serves…… brutal.
Didn't know it, came to see what the game is like.
Came to the conclusion that they should rename it serve ball
It's Not that bad in real life I promise the nationals are just bad
Yeah, back yard pick up games are great, tournaments not so much
Can’t lie, this might be the most boring game of spike I’ve seen. There’s gotta be a change with giving a chance to the defense, other than that how about hit a damn serve ?
You want a more boring game? Watch 2019 nationals. At least they’re making improvements to the game over time, you have to remember this is a sport less than 10 years old.
This game probably needs a change. It's a lot more fun watching amateurs playing this on the beach than this professional game where it's 95% about sketchy serves.
This was like watching a soccer game being decided by penalty shootouts from the get-go.
so true I'd rather watch good rec players, the pro game is boring
What a terrible game to watch... agreed with other comments... purely just serving... awful.
not giving points for service errors just encourages this degenerate gameplay, extremely boring to watch
Ya this is lame as shit
It’s a double fault rule, exactly like tennis. You miss both, you’re done and the point is lost. It used to be one and done on serving, but games would go too quickly and rules were different back then. I’m curious if that rule could possibly return though with some of the changes they’ve made.
I was introduced to this game and I really enjoyed it. We were volleying and jumping and going back and forth and it was so fun. So I decided to come on to watch pro and hoping to see all these pro flip hits and trick volley......only to see the ball served fly pass each other 50 times out of 60. Kida lame, just a bunch of hard cheap serve shot.
i feel this
professional spikeball is the most boring sport in the world. I'd much rather watch people who are just figuring out how to play because it has longer volleys and is a lot more entertaining. Literally 95% of the points were off of 2 messed up serves or an ace. The serving needs to be dumbed down. It is so boring as it is.
Also, even if you fix the serves there still won't be rallies because everyone just hits it to the moon every chance they get. There also needs to be an outer circle as an out of bounds border. Imagine watching volleyball and everyone just hit the ball 100ft behind everyone so there was no chance of it being returned. This game could be super entertaining and I think could even make it to the Olympics if the rules are reworked but the way it is currently played on the professional level is completely unwatchable.
i like the idea of having a boundary. Could definitely make it more challenging
Interesting take on an outer boundary. The problem is that to get the rule established would take so much trial and error, plus it could unintentionally buff defense yet again. Hitters pop it up overhead because they want to beat body defense and force opponents to chase it down. On the other side, hitting hard and low means an easier touch for defense, but they have less time to react and get to the ball if they’re out of position. Both of those types of shots are the most commonly used, but go far off the net when no one touches them. But if a good shot like that beats everyone but goes out of the boundary, all the rule would accomplish is punishing strong hitters. Especially with the NHZ, you might miss the net entirely or hit rim if you don’t try to hit hard. An outer boundary could potentially work, but it would have to be pretty far from the net and would take lots of thought.
Now to touch on serving. When players get this good, they want to be good at EVERYTHING, including serving. Plus if they can win a point off of a skill they can do very well, why not try to get said point for free and skip the rally entirely? At a high skill level, athletes will take advantage of their skill set for a chance at a free point, especially against a lazy receiver or one that jumps at fakes a lot. Instead of viewers complaining about these hard working athletes trying hard while serving (which those serves take LOTS of practice btw, I speak from experience), it's really just up to the receivers to get better at receiving them. These athletes don’t play a specific way just for the viewers, they play to win. That’s why you don’t see basketball players only shooting 3's and dunking, even though we love seeing that much more than a simple 2 pointer or free throw.
And this all is why I think doing away with double faults might be worth discussing. With changing the rule to one serve, it could keep those crazy serves viable for those that hit them cleanly, but penalizes the athlete if they’re not a consistent server. That way, if a player is good, but inconsistent and keeps trying to swing away like that, they’re giving away points when they could be doing safer serves instead. People swing hard all the time in the current day because they know they always have a guaranteed second try.
@@smoouve I agree with the double fault thing. I also agree on the far away out of bounds thing. The only reason I suggested the limit of how far you can hit is because it makes the coverage very boring for new players bc when it’s a serve then one hit it’s not very entertaining at all. As well as it is prohibiting the growth of the sport
@@landonjohnson77 Yeah I see your point, I’m not trying to discredit you at all. Scaling up the sport is all about finding a balance between increasing athlete count and growing viewer count, which admittedly will take time and experience. The past two years have seen the most global competitive rule changes in the whole history of the sport, which as a reminder is still less than 10 years old total. Rule changes can be controversial, but when done right they objectively better the sport in all aspects. The No Hit Zone and legal carries rules are great examples: they increase rallies, reward good athleticism, and help reduce ambiguity for both spectators and refs/observers
@@smoouve ya but the sport has dwindled the past year and a half. It’s had so much momentum in the past but rn is not seeing as much growth as it needs. Sad because it’s such a fun sport but me watching tournaments, it makes sense why it’s not growing
What a bunch of garbage? They just smack it as hard as they can and 1/4 attempts hits the net the rest it’s just who can get lucky with their inaccurate serve the most. Why is there no penalty for bad serves? You would see more gameplay if there is a risk of losing/the other team gaining points that way. This was boring af. And for gods sake, bolt the net to the ground
Completely agree, they just need to do gentleman's serve so they can get rallies going
You said it perfectly
@@sam.weber17 no such thing as rallies, if the serve isnt insane then the other team will hit a crazy shot and u cant return it. The game is not meant for competitive play, no such thing as rallies
@@hilal8461 I would disagree. The game is built for it quite well actually, with the no hit zone being implemented last year. The factor here is that at such a high level of play, athletes are so consistent that very few offensive errors occur, so players would rather take their chances on trying to score an ace than just putting one on and having a very high chance of losing the point to a 1-2-3 put away. If the focus shifted more to getting good at defense instead of only getting good at serving, that could change.
Is this about trying to get the serve right?
This is how to play the cringe way
@@brendenlankau1688 I think there needs to be a little rule change there at the server to make it more playable?
Don’t give fault to the rules, it’s more so the meta of the game currently. Everyone at a high level tries to swing out of their minds on serves because of one key factor: players are not focusing as much on getting good at receiving serves as they are at getting good at everything else. Everyone knows this, so everyone tries to land aces instead. Once the meta shifts a little bit and people start receiving those crazy serves, it could be different
Maybe remove double fault, narrow the serve zone, and serve has to be one motion instead of this quadruple fake.
This is like watching paint dry!🤪🤦🏻♀️
they need to play gentlemen serves
I wanted to like this, but to be honest it was boring. I agree with so many others that we don't want to watch a bunch of missed serves followed by an ace followed by many more missed serves. This game has some potential, but obviously it needs some changes to encourage rallies before it will be fun to watch. I say this as constructive criticism not as hate.
This game is goated but these serving rules are lame, this whole match was jus serves
I feel like if I practice my service for a couple of months, I can be a Pro player… (never played spikeball)
This is literally so boring to watch all it is is people missing the serve
jesus, this game is trash. I'm falling asleep watching the serves.
That is the whole game.
*Check out 360 Ball. It's similar but way better.*
Just a serving match, lame
Spikeball became so lame when it revolved around serving only
Has it not always been like this? We used to do gentlemen's serves and it was fun, then we started playing in a group and they all serve hard. Definitely plays differently.
Why are missed serves not even penalized??
It’s a double fault rule, exactly like tennis. You miss two, you’re done and the point is lost. It used to be one and done on serving, but games would go too quickly. I’m curious if that rule could possibly return though with some of the changes they’ve made.
@@smoouve The thing is the game shouldn't be about a super good serve, just do a mediocre serve and play
@@IONProd The problem with that ideology is that at a higher level, that’s asking players to negate an entire skill of their game. This would be similar in theory to asking volleyball players to just get the ball over the net instead of trying to force a bad receive from the opposing team.
When players get good, they want to be good at EVERYTHING, including serving. Plus if they can win a point off of a serve they can do very well, why not try to get that point for free and skip the rally entirely? At that high of a skill level, players will take advantage of a lazy receiver for a chance at a free point. For the current state of the sport, instead of viewers complaining about these hard working athletes going hard while serving (which take LOTS of practice btw, I speak from experience), it's really just up to people to get better at receiving them.
And this all is why I think doing away with double fault might not be a bad thing. With that rule change, it keeps those crazy serves viable when they hit, but penalizes the athlete if they’re not a consistent server and miss. That way, if a player is good, but inconsistent and keeps trying to swing away like that, they’re giving away points when they could be doing safer serves instead. People swing hard all the time currently because they know they always have a guaranteed second try.
@@smoouve maybe give max 5 faults fouls per set like in basketball
The game is a little bank with the rule of “could he have gotten it or was it well placed” I think no matter what if it’s in the arena it’s fair
Not sure how I even found this.....but from what I see it's like wiping before you poop it makes no sense
You guys made a whole ass tournament but couldn't make a base for the product with enough weight for it to not move every 5 seconds?
This was just watching someone serve with no return, then go make sure the thing is centered and serve again.
Is this company run by AI? Lmao wtf a bunch of drunk teenagers on a camping trip could come up with a better solution and be more entertaining to watch.
Something needs to change. It seems like I have to wait for an eternity to get a chance to witness a half decent rally.
Mostly what I see is just people slapping the ball into the frame one after the other.
Change some rules or something. Make it so that each team has to hit the ball on to the net at least once in order to make it a legitimate rally or else no point will be awarded or something. This will encourage rallies. Also might be a good idea to make stricter service rules. Like no bluffing and faking. Once you get into the serving action and toss the ball you have to serve it.
I just came up with these on the fly. I'm sure if the officials put their mind to it they can do something to benefit the game.
I'm sorry but this was lame
Thanks guys. Brazil is country of Spikeball is Roundnet.
worst spikeball game to watch
Bro we’re are the rallies
Maybe the serve should be done under hand. To have gameplay… I don’t know watching this stopped me from getting into it
Spikeball is the best sport ever created no doubt about it
Neh
That would be baseball
@@MrAdrenaline00 lol corn ball
@@cameronszn9 cornball? I don’t think anyone can ever support spike ball and use that word
You guys are looking for 360 ball
Me and my bois play each side gets 5 serves and 1 fault for all serves. Makes you play more conservatively when you lose that fault and Risk losing several points on risky serves. Leads to more back and forth rather than serving all day.
Love this game!
you gotta play gentlemen’s server
Yoo what happens at 19:23 with the ball??
Bounces of the rim then hits his foot
Hey I just started playing spikeball once a week with friends and I'm trying to better understand the rules and call. I don't get what's wrong at 18:35 ?
they ran into the crowd, redid the point because of this
You should call the game serveball.
Best Server’s in the game rn:
Ryder
Justin Plett
Joe Bondi
Gabe
thomas hamiltons ace% on rawstats is something like 31 or 36%
Justin is nuts
Gabe
I now see why this video has 8 times as many views as the next to games. Boring as balls.
Mert brought me here
level is bad, they can't even serve properly, if that's the pro national game its a very disappointing level
22:40 best play of the game by far- doesn’t even count for a point. But 20 shitty fake-out serves in a row? Not fun to watch at all
"that might be the play of the game!" haha more like the ONLY play of the game.
The CEOS son is in my grade lol his names Beckett Ruder
tell him hes gay and plays a gay sport and I bet he has a gay car. Kick him in the shins ffs.
The crazy serves ruin the game. It should always be gentleman serves to get a good volley going
too much focus on the serve
Ya the serve to OP
What a great sport
Spikeball is the 🐐
Absolutely terrible game the servers should just be normal omg
They should really nerf serving.
Other than that good game
level for the championship is pretty bad jesus christ
Bad look for spike ball. The “pro” matches are just who can’t serve the best. Need to refine rules around serving to promote more rallies
Terrible finals
lol
The rules around serving need to be changed. Way too slow.
This was such a bad and dumb game I saw it at academy glad I didn't waste any money
Wow this is much more boring than I imagined it would be
This sport is interesting
that's not how u serve
Deporte ql fome jajsjs
this is a disgrace to the sport
Honestly both teams suck cosmeidering they’ve been playing for years daily I played twice and am way more consistent than them smh
Boring
boring af
This is stupid... like the serve is so overpowered. Can we get a round that has more than two hits please?
