Nine plus One - Just finished this for a friend - her first great-grandbaby. It's a boy and had an old kit that I had purchased from Fabric Cafe. I made it for this upcoming baby. Grandmother picked out the fabric and figured that it would be so fitting for a little boy. Hopefully he will love his trucks and construction toys. I tried to attach the photo but it won't let me. Believe me - it is so cute.
I just made a quilt for a charity donation with your Evergreen tree pattern & it came out beautifully. It was so easy…Thank You. I didn’t use Christmas fabrics so it can be used all year. I’m sure I’ll use the other patterns in that book. 💕🧵🌲
Oh, oh, oh, you give me so much inspiration. Awesome as always. I love when you add the cropping tool because I don't always see the blocks. Thank you, ladies.
Love the nine patch with the pumpkins. Looks like and Irish chain. When I first started quilting 30 years ago I cut out all my pieces one at a time with scissors. No rotary cutters or strip piecing. So glad we have techniques now that make it easier and faster to cut out. Have a great day!
Love your three yd quilts. Till you called attention to the fact that many of the patterns are simply 9 patch blocks, I never looked at them that way. Thank you. I don’t believe I will be so intimidated by some of your patterns in the future.
why am i looking at this? i don't even quilt! BUT i find it fascinating and you have given me great ideas in creating new designs for my pouches that i put in front of my canvas tote bags! lovely! who knows, maybe one day i will get into quilting. but for now i am enjoying your fabulous videos.
Fran, I had to come back and thank you for the tip with the pins in the stitch lines and matching them up. What a change in the matching of my seams and my points. Thank you so much for your instructions.
Thank you for using that word some quilters nowadays dint use - PINS! I am a pinner (started way back in the hand piecing days!) and I still use pins! So many quilt videos never use pins and it scares the stuffing out of me not to do that! Pinning at corners, intersections and maybe other places to me seems to be something that new quilters really need to think about.
Oh my! Thank goodness for for you ladies. I’ve always been told to iron the seams to the dark side. I did that on my very first quilt and I had so much trouble ‘nesting’ the seams. Since then I have always ironed my seams open and my quilts turn out just beautiful. Absolutely no difference in look but so much easier. Thank you for your tutorials and advice. I am simply addicted to 3 yard quilts although I purchase my fabric by the metre which is good because it gives me a bit more wriggle room if needed. 🤗
I always enjoy your videos. Informative and inspirational, too. You clearly have so much fun together! I'm glad I'm not the only one to have had my children pass me in age LOL When my daughter turned 40, I told her that was impossible since her mother is only 39!
Thank you so much for the tip on pinning! I’m making the Stepping Stones pattern and used your method. Every one of the intersections match perfectly! Incidentally, I love the Stepping Stones pattern. Thanks again.
Another winning video. Thanks! I love the fresh look of the Daisy Dots quilt closely followed by the friendship star quilt. So pretty. I love the 9 patch - so versatile.
More beautiful kits!! My grandma always used a nine patch to use up scraps from clothes she had sewn for my sister and me. I do have a fondness for that basic and simple pattern!!
Great show ladies. I’ve been looking through your books tonight (I have all your books) looking for a pattern - found it- Snowball quilt- Thank you for the great patterns and inspiration!!!
You two are very inspirational. Love the fabric choices today. I've tried pressing seams open, especially with your patterns, but have a problem with the stitches coming out when I sew blocks together and when the border is sewn on. I tried using 1.5 stitch length but it didn't seem to help. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.
Hi Mimi, try using a spray stabilizer, like Mary Ellen's Best Press. Check out this pressing video on the Fabric Cafe channel. Where we share pressing tips. ua-cam.com/video/opLBvy3Jm0A/v-deo.html
Press seams to the dark side or open is really a matter of preference. I've never had my batting come through when I press mine open. I would say if you are drawn to try it, go for it. You may or may not like it.
Hi Diane, All of our patterns are available from our web store, www.fabriccafe.com. You will even find a free pattern under the Free Goodies tab. Enjoy! Donna
Thanks Donna & Fran for another great tutorial. I have made 9 patch and it's a great starter for beginners, but as you get into 9-patch there is so much versatility to advance by cutting up your 9 pa5ch after you have constructed the initial 9-patch quilt block. So much Fun.🧵🪡
The Garden gems xmas fabrics are sooo beautiful, well coordinated with the pattern ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Best Friends is my FAVORITE pattern. I love the friendship star.
Oh girls!! I want all your fabric and patterns!! I love half square triangles. You are the best!! Thank you for sharing!! Laurie
You are so welcome!
Love how you two get along! I love nesting seams with a dot of glue on each side, then pin, too.
Glue is one of my favorite “four-letter” words!!!! Honestly I had t thought about doing that but I’m definitely going to remember now and use it.
Fran, I had to come back and thank you for the tip with the pins in the stitch lines and matching them up. What a change in the matching of my seams and my points. Thank you so much for your instructions.
You're so very welcome, Sandy! - Fran
Love the nine patch. My first baby quilt nine patch done in purple.
Love it!!
Fran, I love the top you are wearing!
Very nice, ladies!
Thank you! 😊

We love using pins!
The 9 patch was not my first.. but it sure was my 2nd quilt I made. Love the tree quilt!
I sure love that quilt made with the batiks. Nantucket’s summer is also beautiful
Oh yes, I learned long ago about the pin trick. Use It often. Thank you for such wonderful ideas!
Love all of these.
Yes, the 9-patch was my very first block - hand pieced - in 1979!
Fran, you are so diplomatic about the two “press” camps!
Thank you for your awesome videos. I get inspiration from them as I watch every single one. Please keep them coming!!
Thank you! Will do!

Hooray! That's awesome Brenda. So glad it worked out.
Thank you for the tip on matching corners for the 9 patch. I am putting together a Shoofly version. So helpful 😀
Glad it was helpful!
This was great! Thank you!
I learned something new! I’ve never heard to put the pin in on the sewing threads front and back to get seams to line up! Thanks Fran!!
Another winning video. Thanks! I love the fresh look of the Daisy Dots quilt closely followed by the friendship star quilt. So pretty. I love the 9 patch - so versatile.
I’ve never made a 9 patch before but I think that will be my next quilt. Love all of your patterns. Thanks for sharing Donna and Fran!❤
More beautiful kits!! My grandma always used a nine patch to use up scraps from clothes she had sewn for my sister and me. I do have a fondness for that basic and simple pattern!!

Love your videos! These are all great ideas. Thank you for the new fat quarter book. Now have them both! Yea me, off to fat quarter fun.
Awesome! Enjoy!
The fabric you used in the Best Friends pattern is beautiful! I have used the nine patch in a Friendship Star and also Shoo Fly.
Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks so much for this tip. I have a problem getting them to much.
Happy to help!

My last one was a disappearing nine patch
🥰
I was told not to press the seams open because your batting will come through. So is it ok to press open?
Press seams to the dark side or open is really a matter of preference. I've never had my batting come through when I press mine open. I would say if you are drawn to try it, go for it. You may or may not like it.
What fabric line is used in the Nantucket Summer quilt?
It is the Nantucket Summer line from Moda 😊
How do I order all of your patterns? I am very much interested in them. 1:16 1:18
