    Ichiban, the man that never lost himself, a nobody that kept his values to the bitter end, fought for his friends and the weakest, never backing down from adversity even if all the odds were against him, finally climbed on top of the millenium tower and overcame a dragon, beating him and with that becoming a dragon himself, like the legend of the Dragon Koi climbing the waterfall, the symbol on his back.
    Vs
    Ryo, A man that thew everything away, his identity, his family, his loved ones, all in seek of power, he was equally an underdog but in his struggles he shed his skin, and instead of becoming a dragon he became a serpent, a snake that thinks hes a dragon.
    (Serpents are, after all, incomplete dragons.)
    Light and darkness, the 99 and 100, two brothers that were born in a similar manner, but became oh so different.
    Man yakuza games has one of the best story telling in gaming, you cannot change my mind.

      I think what Yakuza 7 story really gets right is it kinda tackles taboo topics in Japan other games would only hint at: illegal migration and police brutality, corruption and stagnation of Japanese one party rule, homeless being socially and legally discriminated against, prostitutes eking out a living on the edge of law, etc. All wrapped up in a touching human drama.

    • @LK_tutturu
      @LK_tutturu 3 роки тому +43

      @@Kavino well said. All those real world topics give weight to the game. The writing team successfully creates a new goofy, lovable protagonist, throws him into gritty realism and masterfully balances the tones. They outdo themselves this game, heavy props.
      Still not really a fan of the Japanese soap opera unnecessary twists and turns though

      This game's story is somehow simultaneously Tolkein-esque in it's creation of the ties that bind the party into a true Fellowship, Shakespearean in the ways that you described and a sense of jolliness in the substories that range from heart-warming to hilarious. Throw in some incredible and thematically fulfilling fan-service and...it might be the best gaming story in the last decade.
      I gotta play the rest of the series now.

      @@brendantoungate8287 Agreed. This game is truly one of a kind and I hope for a sequel. This sequel should focus on Ichiban's morality being put to the test almost like Dante's Inferno if you would. The villain should be Kume(yes, I know, odd choice) but he could use some underhanded methods to try to drive Ichiban over the edge. Any case, basically Ichiban's Bushido vs Nihilism.

    • @brendantoungate8287
      @brendantoungate8287 3 роки тому +7

      @@jamesprice6015 I like the idea of testing Ichiban's morality. Given that he's set up to sort of take a major leadership role in Ijincho going forward, I'm curious to see how he handles it. Like a Dragon's story is focused on Ichiban and Ryo being mirror images of each other, so it'll be interesting to see how Ichiban handles authority, which is something that he's never had. After all, reaching the top is one thing; staying on top is quite another.
      I'm not sure who the challenger should be. I think Kume's going straight to prison, tbh. I can see him going completely psychotic at some point and being used as a tool by someone else, though. There is a stand-in for the Triple Triad that is mentioned offhand during Zhao's bond conversations; that could be an interesting option.

  • @arkazzahdnur6694
    @arkazzahdnur6694 3 роки тому +287

    Now let this sink in a bit.
    Ichiban, he's brash, he's hot-headed but has a heart of gold, everything he does, he does it with no ill will whatsoever.
    Now being the new protagonist of the Yakuza series, it's a lot of pressure for Ichi to be a solid protag of a long running series we've known, and he deserve it.
    Ichi is not like his predecessors, he doesn't have the strength of a one man army like Kiryu, Majima or Saejima
    He doesn't have the wit like Akiyama, Nishitani
    But one thing that make Ichi stand out from other protagonists of Yakuza is that he's not strong, he's not smart, he's not even clever and that's what all about him is.
    His tattoo depicted a koi in the phase of transforming to a dragon, his nickname is not the flashy or badass title like Kiryu's "Dragon of Dojima", Majima's "Mad Dog of Shimano" or "Eighteen counts" Saejima, it's "Rock-bottom Dragon"
    He's full of flaws, but that's what make him relatable. Sure he might not have the strength to solo raid a whole Yakuza HQ like Kiryu and Majima, or punching a fkin giant grizzly bear to unconsious like Saejima nor having a financial mindset like Akiyama. But he always has his friend to accompanied alongside him to make up for his flaws.
    The previous Yakuza series so far depicted the protagonists struggling with the constant internal conflicts of the Yakuza world, you often find them resolve their problems alone. But Ichi always have friends who will always support him. And Ichi's struggling is also not with the Yakuza's world since he's basically got expelled from it technically, his struggling is between him, an old school yakuza who just served prison sentence, desolate from society for a long time trying to get back into it, with the society itself. Alongside him is a homeless man whose status society as a homeless usually get shunned and despite by social's norm. An ex-detective that get shunned by his own forces due to the corruption of powers. A bar hostess that get shunned by society as leeches making a living out of men's desires. An assassin dedicated his whole life as someone's bodydouble only for the real one to die and suffer an identity crisis, now only know to do what he has been doing best. An ex-leader of Chinese's mafia usually be deemed as cruel and sadistic but no one know he has to put up a necessary evil facade to take care of his men.
    In my opinion, Ichi has passed the test of being the new solid protag of the Yakuza series, just like his leitmotiff, "Rock-bottom Dragon". He raised from being a nobody to my new favorite Yakuza's protagonist just like a Koi transforming to a Dragon.
    Congratulations, Ichi. You deserved it.

    This reminds me of Kiryu and Nishiki relationship in Kiwami.
    For instance: Kiryu got into jail because of a Nishiki accident/Ichiban got into jail because of a Masato accident.
    Power corrupted Nishiki in ambition to save his sister illness/Power corrupted Masato in the ambition to control the Yakuza and Japan. (Bigger ambitions, but ambitions nonetheless).
    They though they weren't loved by their families but they were loved by both their families and specially the protagonist.
    Both were raised as brothers altrough they weren't related by blood.
    Both felt the need to be respected by force, not by slow building sequencial actions.
    Both climbed to the top, while eliminating anyone on their way to success.
    Both had a love interest, that didn't end up with neither of them.
    Both clashed at the highest point of the Millenium Tower. It is a no bullshit fight, fists only. You and him.
    The storm in the Millenium Tower, the blue suit compared to the red of both protagonists. The storm aura in Nishiki's fight in Kiwami.
    Altrough there are some differences, you can see the similiarities.

    As someone who has difficulty walking/been wheelchair bound since birth, Waka is the first Yakuza antagonist to speak to me on a personal level. I know what it's like to be seen by people in the way that Yumeno saw Waka and trust me, that's not a good feeling. The only things that really separate us, aside from Waka being fictional, duh, is the fact that he was able to fix his disability and had the money and resources to literally become a different person, something which I will never have. Maybe if I did, I can say for certain that I probably would have made similar choices to the ones he made, and discovering that as I played through the game sent a chill down my spine. Ironically enough the parallels between Waka and I continue to how we view the world. Where Waka wanted to Bleach out the Gray Zones, my whole philosophy is to empower the Gray Zones so that they can stand on equal footing with the ivory towered stalwarts in their blindingly white citadels. It would be foolish of me to say that this is in no way affected by my desire to get back at people who belittled me, but unlike Waka it is not my only driving force, it also comes from a deep seeded knowledge of what it feels like to be stuck there, and to make sure no one has to ever suffer that pain again, something I hope Ichi would be proud of.

    This game was amazing. The idea of going from fantasy to real life, just hits hard. Love this game. This is why we game, call me corny but this is only found in gaming. Yakuza series goated.

    i was super overleveled for this fight so it was kinda sad seeing me knock him out in like 4 or 5 moves

    I still really wish that this fight shifted the combat style. It would've been something like, Ichiban was taking this moment so seriously that his mind wasn't tinted with Dragon Quest and RPGs, but a battle with his best friend/brother who lost their way, so he'd go all out as he needed to. (They kinda did that by locking you to freelancer, but would've been cool if they swapped over to traditional combat.)

    Aoki really cleaned up nice. He looked like a total scumbag in chapter 1. Reminds me of Daigo Dojima's street punk to legendary underworld hero transformation.

    I was so mad that aoki was the final boss cause u can just use the German suplex and just beat him easily but tendo should have been the final boss of the game

    • @Alovon
      @Alovon 5 місяців тому +3

      Think that's kinda of the point. Tendo is the Gameplay Final Boss (with the whole party). Aoki is the Story Final Boss/Victory Lap phase.
