most of the people watching this performance has NO idea what the history and story is behind that song. It's a song of trial and tribulations and struggles with being black and southern. it has deep roots in black southern history. love it and love him.
It has deep roots in black southern history? "Ol' Man River" is a show tune from the 1927 musical Show Boat with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, who wrote the song in 1925.
This is the kind of voice you’re just never prepared for. It just blows you away and you need to hear it again, immendiatelly, to make sure that the experience was actually real. His voice just powers off that stage and takes your whole body for a wild ride. Just a world class voice that come around so rarely. Just stunning! Absolutely amazing power, intonation and control! That's a monster of a voice there!
He should have won the whole thing.. definitely a better voice than the chicken chaser that won. I don’t know how that happened, but these shows rarely select the best talent. It’s all about backstories and things the producer wants to push. I think Lawrence was eliminated after just his third performance.
I also saw this when it aired... Never get tired of watching it.... amazing voice... that song might be over 100 years old... but it was made for him to sing!!!
There was a lot of people that I wanted to win, but at least their talent has been shared all over the place. Some day we will see them again. For now, WAY TO GO LAWRENCE BEAMEN!!!!!!!!!!!
Outrageously fabulous voice!! Don't hear such beautiful deep bass voices very often. And to have that range!! Wow!! Somebody needs to snatch this guy up and promote him!!!!
Yes he does. I can’t believe people watching some Lady GaGa video for the ten billionth time, not adventurous enough to get out of their bubble see what’s a actually available . I do think they’d find it worth it, especially when everyone was one their feet, but there are many people who just think, Hmn. Nothing new here. They’ll all grow up eventually and realized all they have misses while watching that same Justin Bebier video for the one millionth time. What a waste of a life that can be
Lawrence is in a class all by himself, a completely different league then the other contestants. Most all of the other contestants have talent, but it’s very raw and kind of s diamond in the rough. Mr. Beamon on the other hand, has a totally polished voice, ready to step into any studio on the world and work with any of the greatest producers. He needs no further preparation, that voice is like gold and silver and much of the time platinum, which is where his records would find themselves, platinum! Voices like his do not come around too often, which is why I wished they had promote him more. Why not he is a superstar in the making, like Barry White or Lou Rawls, he has that level of vocals starting now and he is still young and could become a much better singer with more training, but his voice is ready for recording right now
+Lawrence Beamen If AGT had the Golden Buzzer at that time, and I were on the panel, I would've hit it when the other judges had me give my comments to the contestant. He touched my heart when he hit the last note.
I saw this man back when I had no pc to make a comment, Lets get on it when I saw this my mouth was so wide open took me to the north, south, east and west, William Warfield sang this in showboat and this man just showboated this out with a baritone of a voice and secondly what a GENT, yes a beauty of a guy Lawrence keep your deep dark tones going until GOD Says so GOD bless you A MEN
Amazing voice... me myself, I have a very deep voice like him, and I know how hard it is to find the right song to sing. He is an inspiration to me as a wanna-be singer on my end. Great performance.
I can't believe it took me this long to notice they use the applause sound to mask cuts. Every skip ahead in the music the crowd conveniently covers a bit of the music. Oh great voice by the way.

Paul Robeson and William Warfield would be smiling hugely if they could hear him.
This man needs to be on Broadway!
+Lawrence Beamen If AGT had the Golden Buzzer at that time, and I were on the panel, I would've hit it when the other judges had me give my comments to the contestant. He touched my heart when he hit the last note.

Why does ever single video on UA-cam with singing have to have a comment about that kid. You know who I am talking about.
I can't believe it took me this long to notice they use the applause sound to mask cuts. Every skip ahead in the music the crowd conveniently covers a bit of the music.
Oh great voice by the way.
