This movie, Blade Runner 2049, and Mission Impossible Fallout are my go-to's to enjoy my 4k tv. I dont have a very high quality set up but I still appreciate the fantastic picture quality.
Blade runner 2049 was a very good and looked good in 4k but hdr performance was flat, not sure if a wcg was used but it was under 200 nits. Very good film and very well shot, detail was amazing but could of been so much better presentation if the hdr was better implemented imo.
When I saw this movie in 4k I was Instantly converted into the 4k experience..Very few movies have looked as good and more importantly sounded as good..Definately demo material..nice review Shane.
I own 3d, 4k, and standard bluray versions. On a large projector screen the 3d version is the most cinematic and captivating. But for a TV display the 4k is the preferred option, due to detail enhancement and HDR pop. The audio is a 10 in my book.
Watching the 3D in VR gives you the cinematic screen while providing bright colors and detail because of the relative closeness of the large screen. I was surprised how much I didn't miss the HDR because of this. But in the end, this is one of those films that looks and sounds stunning, whichever way you watch it.
I Agree with you. The audio is very aggressive and sounds fantastic. The video is very crisp and detailed. I haven’t seen the 3D version so I might have to check it out. Great review.
This is by far one of my favorite movies for Visual detail and Audio. I purchased this in Blu Ray well before I joined the 4k game. Even upscaled with my 4k player this thing looks even more amazing. I keep trying to talk myself into re-purchasing again but on 4K and this definitely helps support my theory.
Great review! Irrelevant question, but will you do a review on the LG SN11RG soundbar? Or the upcoming Klipsch 54 soundbar and Samsungs new high end soundbar? Keep up the good work Shane!
The grain holds this title back but the audio is so good that it's still a reference quality demo movie even with the grain and definitely a must own 4k.
Stoked to rewatch this when my new setup is put together. DENON AVR-X3500H, svs primes bookshelf & center, SB 3000, Panasonic DP-UB820-K with the LG OLED CX 65. Do we know if the Lovely day edition is anything different from this 4k bluray?
Love this movie especially the sound quality. I have it in UHD on Vudu but I am looking forward to picking up the 4K disc version...someday. So, Shane, for audio a 9.9? Seriously? What exactly went wrong that you deducted .1 from the score?
I bought this for like $7.99 on a VUDU sale for the 4K UHD version. I haven't watched it yet but I'm wondering if getting the actual 4K Bluray is worth it? I normally try to always get the 4K disc if I'm interested in the movie. I'm in the same situation with Ford vs Ferrari and a few other movies lol
Fury Road was a beast of a movie. Visually stunning and quite different from other mainstream movies. Audio is loud and bass it not cut off at 30hz (DISNEY!). Gotta re-watch it too. Since you are doing rewatches is Hacksaw Ridge or 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi on the list ?
My Max Max Fury Road 3D was arrived last week and I watched it last night. Wow so amazing sounds, color & especially 3D popping . You are correct 9.8. Must have owned for especially who have a dedicated movie theater 👍😀
Thanks for the AV review of Fury Road 4k! I watched this movie in the theater and absolutely loved it. The detail in that opening scene in the desert is also something that wowed me. I have not watched this movie since, and have been meaning to re-watch it. My home theater is still 1080p and 5.1, but with a planned upgrade to 4k and 5.2.4 on the cards. Based on your notes, will certainly watch this, perhaps post the upgrade.
It’s worth it to watch with a 5.1. I recently just installed my final two ceiling speakers in my 5.1.4 and fury road honestly doesn’t use the height speakers as much as it should. It’s still the first movie I use to show off my oled and surround sound. Honestly as long as you have a good subwoofer this movie will make good use of it. Getting a svs pb4000 was a bigger improvement over 4 ceiling speakers imo.
SpareChange it’s all very brief moments though. Atmos is cool and all but is it worth spending a ton of Money on a new receiver and speakers just to hear brief moments come from the ceiling? The 5.1 is sufficient enough especially if you have good speakers and a good subwoofer. With atmos you hear a couple of voices from the ceiling, when he goes to start the car you hear the engine from the ceiling, you hear the warboys car jumping over you, brief ringing when his car gets flipped. And all these atmos moments are 1-4 seconds. It’s nothing that should keep you from waiting to rewatch the movie imo.
It does come down to how good your AVR or PrePro decodes the info. I've heard many reviewers and subscribers comment on a lack of height info on certain titles. When played back on mine those same titles can be very aggressive. I've learned this reviewing many types of receivers and processors. There's definitely levels.
SpareChange maybe that’s true but still I don’t think most people are trying to spend more than $2k on a receiver/prepro. I have a denon x4400h and don’t see myself spending more. I’d rather upgrade speakers, get an amp, and maybe build some 18’s before I ever consider upgrading my receiver to a prepro. Maybe once I have all that I’ll save up for a prepro but the stuff you got is expensive. Fury road makes my system sound like a theater I can’t imagine what it sounds like on your system. Glad you did a revisit on this one, first movie I show people on my system.
I'm among the audience that prefer the UHD version in general. The flame looks more like CGI production than on the BD, but even in the BD, it doesn't that real. So I grew to like the stylized the colour palette, which helps distinguish it from other blockbusters. I also find the overall colour scheme much more natural on the UHD, just like other viewers who prefer the UHD version. For instance, the skin tone is always far more natural in the UHD than in the BD, and does not have the orange tint. But when a scene craves for colours, like the sandstorm one, it can really be a visual fest.
I have 4k hdr version in uk,i seen this movie about 5 times now on samsung Q8FN,its amazing quality movie, sadly i dont have dolby atmos, only small denon hifi and Dali speakers but still 10x better then sound from tv,great review😁😁😁✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
4:26 "Aggressive height channel usage" Are there different versions of this disc? This was tested on another UA-cam channel and they found that the height channels were almost silent.
@@therealshanelee The channel is called Stop the FOMO and the video is called 'Dolby Atmos Overheads - You're not missing much'. It would be interesting to see why you get different results if it is indeed the same mix.
@@therealshanelee I don't know. Maybe it's in the video if you look it up. I just remember that they isolated the height channels and found that there was no sound coming out of the channels during the action scenes at all. It's not that it was just unimpressive. There was nothing there. They got some odd dialogue and at one time you heard a special effect from the guitar guy. But in scenes with debris flying around and cars flying over your head = silence.
@@Dirkschneider I can isolate any channels individually or in groups. I also have a graphical display of what happens in each channel. If you have a good enough processor you'll hear what I hear.
yeah i think he's kinda upset like some other people of paying all that money and not getting what he thought he would out of it i know the feeling but also i enjoy the hobby so not complaining also to be fair he only has 2 atmos speakers and shanes set-up is way way better IMO so i'm sure that factors into it.
The movie sounds great but the video isn’t that good. It looks like 720p, to be honest. It looks like a 2007 Blu-ray. I know it was not shot in 4K but I’ve seen 1080p upscale look better.

The 3D version is out of this world. A must watch.
True. I saw the 3d version on the big screen and it was the best immersive action film experience I ever had in years. Highly Recommended by me.
This was the best 3D movie I remember seeing. The 3D was "realistic". It didn't look like a "pop up" book. That was coming from a converted 3D.
Watched the 3D version - just been hit in the head by a loose steering wheel...it’s very good...lots of pop-out and the Atmos sound is great.

Sharpness was a bit too high causing ringing in certain scenes. Very distracting for me. Great audio but decent 4k pq. I would give pq a 6.5.

Much more detail in the 4k blu Ray. Lots of color banding on the Vudu version when I watch on my OLED.

Since you are doing rewatches is Hacksaw Ridge or 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi on the list ?
Yes, I second the vote for 13 Hours! The Atmos track is ridiculous. It might be my favorite of all time.
I was thinking Shane already reviewed it, but I looked back and it doesn’t look like he did. I would be interested to hear his thoughts on the disc.
This was my debut movie to watch on our new home cinema. Watched it in 3d with atmos. Stunning.
If I have mad max fury road on blu ray that has the atmos is it worth upgrading to the 4k or is it only minimal?

My fave is the Chrome version. I think it looks feels punchier in B&W.
Not the best version, but very cool looking!
They call it “Black & Chrome”! 😂
Wish they had a 4k of the black and chrome.
I havent been compelled to upgrade my bluray after many people saying the HDR does more harm than good (flames). The atmos mix is phenomenal though!
That's a new one for me. If you have a proper HDR capable TV, and don't use the vivid preset option, than HDR will do more good than harm! 🙂
@@87CREW I have a TCL 6-series and I love it's HDR performance (I have settings dialed in perfect) Perhaps if I see this 4k on sale I'll jump on it
