Oh nice inks! Ostrich is a really nice Chinese Ink manufacturer with a long history, they were founded in 1935 and make really nice inks, including iron gall and pigment inks as well. Great reputation in China, not so well known outside.
Good stuff. I've been looking for a good blue so I know of what you speak.😁 As far as paper, I found "Paperage" on Amazon. 100gsm and even with a quetip swab, no bleedthrough and very little shadowing. Price is spot on for pages per journal. I was impressed enough to buy 3 more of them. ----just an 'add it to the list' comment. 😄 I'm really enjoying the channel, especially with your approach AND your delivery which isn't boring. Keep em' coming!
Nice to see some ink from off the beaten path. I don't think I have ever seen much on the Chinese inks. I picked up the entire Karkos line a few months ago for $0.53 USD/each and like $9 in total shipping. So, it came to like $13.50 USD for 10 bottles of ink. Couldn't pass it up. I also liked the Violet but the true gem of the bunch was the Brown.
for those diamine ink bottles with the opening being too small to get into... I got for little money on ebay the "Fountain Pen Spring Ink Auxiliary Absorber Syringe For Converter" Now I can get all the ink out no problems !!
Yeah I have a springy plunger syringe type thing and also an adapter that goes onto the end of a converter. But if its a vac or piston pen, no way to get it down into the bottle
I might have to go shopping on Aliexpress, those are good finds. And I love Cosmo Air Light paper, I’m currently using a book of it from Odyssey Notebooks. It’s such a bummer that it’s being discontinued.
I buy and use inks for 1-2$ per 70 ml bottle, price depends on seller. Russian "Raduga-2" by Gamma ("Rainbow-2" by Gamma). Use mostly "Bright Blue" and sometimes "Black". They've got a bit more colors (violet, red, green) but haven't used them yet because I returned to fountain pens just a month ago (haven't been using for kinda 20-30 years after some time in school which was not much).
Very nice that amethyst purple was a really nice plum color...I love that...wish the bottle was bigger. But yeah its fun to try new papers and inks. Im excited for 2023
I like the way the inks come across on Cosmo Air Light but it's so sensitive to hand oils! Everytime I touch it, I get those spots just as you did too. Otherwise, the Regalia paper was my favorite for the new inks. Happy New Year!
Thank you for the video footage of that pen shop. It must be a great place to visit to purchase materials or just be able to speak with other fountain pen enthusiasts. Were those new inks easy to flush out of your fountain pens? Take care, and I hope that the new year is treating you well.
Very fun video. Regalia paper is wonderful. Wish they offered in an A4 notebook . Tomoe River, I was very late to try. It is wonderful too. Rhodia seems light years away from Clairefontaine
pH is only one parameter to think of when it comes to ink. I chatted about it briefly in this video but I have a whole bunch of testing I do want to run at some point. ua-cam.com/video/CpvkrqMI2u0/v-deo.html
Where do you get the Muji paper that is your favourite? I’d love to try it as I tend to agree with all your picks and I’m not sure where to find the right paper to try your Muji pick. (I’m in Ontario)
Try Noodler's Blue (just blue) - Very close to Horizon blue. (or Diamine Blue Velvet). Loved Horizon blue, but I am 2 for 2 on Monteverde inks molding.
JingHao could be translated as Good Book - Jing being book and Hao being good. Bu Hao is bad/good - meaning not good. Hao hao being real good. Hard stuff to crack. Sadly it is the simplified radical lán - for blue. 藍 (Traditional form of 蓝)
Great fun video. Was there any bleed through on the Regalia paper?? Please let me know. There used to be a Muji shop in London’s Oxford Street. I’ll check it out if I head up West. Fingers crossed it’s still there. Thanks again for a great video. Happy New Year. Catch ya next time. D
where did you buy your regalia? I have a terrible experience with endless (35$ wasted :|) but I'm curious to try that paper! is it white or cream? also if you like blues, have you tried belu ocean from j herbin? so expensive but I want a bottle so bad... it's so gorgeous.... specially in a broad nib, something so unique about that blue and also the VPS night was soooo amazing I absolutely loved it :)
I was sent the regalia directly by endless. What went wrong with your experience with them? I know the Canadian retailer Blesket (use DOODLEBUD22 for 10%) carries their product line as well.
@@Doodlebud I got their tomoe river notebooks. The grid dots were weird and not aligned on some pages and there was black dots all over the page. It had a very rough texture and didn't like some inks, basically nothing like actual tomoe river. I contacted them and they said that they accidentally sent me a prototype and asked for my mailing address to send a replacement 2-3 months ago then proceeded to ghost me! I've followed up twice but I guess it isn't worth the 30$~ I spent on the notebook at this point And oooh thanks for the code! I'm on pen probation as I blew a bit of my savings on 3 expensive pens on sale... But I can afford one next month and I'll probably do a 100$ order for the free shipping with this ^~^
@@Doodlebud Looking to try out their Bluish Grey and Blackish Green. Those colours, as advertised, are looking pretty good to me. But I didn't find any reviews on their inks.
Little question. The papers you liked more seem to be pretty expensive. Would it maybe be possible to review relatively cheap papers for us broke blokes that are decent for fountain pens
@@kozygeorg Maybe not. CVS is a huge chain of drugstores across the USA, which I assume is absent from Europe (?). I heard that the paper can be bought online, but fear the price savings would disappear in the cost of shipping. Sorry.
Here is a video I did about some Muji paper which is pretty low cost. They have a 5 pack of reasonably ok paper that I use for like $4! ua-cam.com/video/VkkplEZEDKE/v-deo.html
"Eel" just means it's lubricated for wetter flow. I've used lots of Black Eel and has never caused a problem. I don't see how blue would be any different. Might avoid Baystate though, obviously.
Can you believe that a large, Pennsylvania county (Delaware County) does not have a single 'Pen' shop or Stationery store? Closest one is in the state of Delaware. Not even Philadelphia. I guess we are not that sophisticated in PA. Covid closed the only one I knew about in Ardmore PA.
I haven’t try the Jinghao blue yet, but got the black as well and it feels dry, it takes 20-30 sec to dry on paper and tend to dry on the tip of the fountain pen. The black is carbon black, very black. Did you have the same experience with the blue one?
"Ah-mee-thist" - is this a joke i'm too new to the channel to understand? i've always pronounced amethyst "am-a-thist" and everyone i know does too. Could it be a regional thing?
Fun? Fun? FUNNN?!?!!? 😱 Fountain pens are not supposed to be fun! This is serious. I will apply to the Grand Master of the Great Lodge of Fountaineers to have your membership revoked.
I'm probably very late to this, but which Muji variant was the spiral-bound version? I usually write with an OB (it's just what my handwriting seems to like 🤷♂️) and the Muji 5 Pack notebook set hasn't worked for me too well. Even with my fine Waterman Allure, it bleeds...
Wow gloves! I guess thats ok when you're at home but I might get some odd looks if I'm in a coffee shop LOL. No BSB yet.... slowly working up the nerve to get a bottle

That "Jinghao" is just jinhao ink. Pretty nice ink!
Ahh thanks, I figured it was the same
I dont know what you are talking about but your handwriting is beautiful.
LOL thanks
It's really amazing to find some good inks that cost less, some just click and work great. Great video again.
Usually I see people putting iroshizuku and J Herbin inks in Jinhaos. What a fun twist to see dollar ink bottles in pens I'll never afford 😅

The blue ink is not coming from jinhao, indeed from Yuyi (memory fish). There is a logo (in chineses character) on the top of the bottle.

Yup so issues as of yet when it comes to cleaning out a pen

I have a love-hate relationship with plastic inner caps on ink like Aurora.
I like the lack of leaks but hate getting covered in ink when using them!

Came here to say the same thing.
As an Atlantic Canadian, I've always understood that it's Ah-muh-thist, not Ah-MEEEE-thist.
'jinghao' is not a real brand, it's an attempt to fool people into thinking it's the real Jinhao

You mis-pronounced "Amethyst"! Short "e" and the accent is on the first syllable!
