YEARS ago I watched you make your turkey like this….. I tired it that year and have never made it any other way! Putting it in the oven the night before and letting it cook over night was a HUGE game changer for me and how the remainder of my thanksgiving giving morning went. I love not having to wrestle with cooking the turkey the day of and then trying to time out the rest of my dishes going into the oven. What a fantastic way to cook a turkey and my family has loved it every time.
My aunt taught my mother this method over 60 years ago. My mom taught it to me when growing up. It has been the family traditional way to bake our holiday turkey. My aunt and mom are both in Glory now, but they are remembered and loved for this and so much more every holiday. 🧡
My mom always did this and I do this now! It makes turkey baking so easy and to have room in the oven for baking the rest of my food I sometimes bake my turkey in my big roaster!
I cannot believe how big Jack is now! I remember watching the fire-episode live during the night while feeding my newborn. So hard to get him to sleep while laughing WITH you 😂😜❤️
Love broccoli salad..our dressing is vinegar, sugar, Mayo and salt that we mis together and pour over salad and mix..and we add cut up green grapes, chopped walnuts and cranberries instead of raisins..delicious
I can't wait to cook my turkey the way you do. I bought turkeys and ham last year. Also, stocked up on everything else. I just bought some frozen pies (Marie Callendar...and those are pretty darn good) on sale ($4.99) and making my dinner rolls. The pies were all I needed to buy this year!!! Thanks for all your inspiration. I have your cookbooks and use them regularly!
I doubted it the first time I tried it. It was so moist I now only cook it with the butter upside down like this for the last 4 years. I have even tried my chicken this way upside down. It’s delicious 😋🦃 Also the pie recipes are really good love the crust.
It is a hit or miss for me when I cook it upside down (breast side down) for half the time and then turn it breast side up for the rest of the time. I stopped doing it when the breast skin stuck to the bottom one year 😢
I have your cookbook and let me tell you’re the Turkey is AMAZING it is so moist and tender. It well be on my Turkey table this year again. ❤❤❤❤❤ love from my family to all of yours. Happy Thanksgiving to all and all be blessed.
Looks so good. I always add crumbled bacon on the broccoli salad. Giblet gravy reminds me of my Nanny. You just need to make fudge and divinity and I’m twelve again. 😆🥰We are in the deep South and cook cornbread dressing but I personally would love to try stuffing. It does look good. Thanks for sharing!
I love the short cut tips!!! Like just cutting potatoes in quarters! Never would have thought of that! Looking forward to moist turkey this year, thanks to you. 😊
It is true about the pie crust. I make your mom's recipe. Thank you. I failed rolling out lessons so I make the recipe and only cut it into two pieces. Then I press it into the pan. Works. And is good. You really can tell the difference between a store crust you use and a homemade crust. Nobody used to ever eat the crust when I would buy premades but the homemade crust is an actual asset to the pie and we'll eat it.
Try baking your sweet potatoes with the peeling on, let cool enough to handle, the peel just slides off and your potatoes are much sweeter. I cook mine like this to use for my sweet potato casserole. I was taught this by a sweet potato farmer 😊
Definitely the best pie and turkey recipes ever! I make the pie crust with lard because I always have that on hand. It works great. So flaky and delicious.
Thank you for step-by-step instructions. I so want Thanksgiving dinner now! Everything looked delicious. Little Jack is not so little anymore.☹️But what a handsome fellow! Thanks Tawra and Mike!
I only cook our turkeys this way now. It’s so easy and it really is the best tasting! 🦃 So moist, tender, and falling off the bone. I’ve tried all these recipes, they are all so good!
I loved this video! I felt like I was right in the kitchen with you. The camara angels are great. Thank you both for a great show! LOL! I SO remember the turkey fire. So funny!
I freaken love you!!! I love when you cook it encourages me to pull out your books and tag some pages- u seriously have me cooking when you cook I have made your turkey and although its not the beauty that comes from roasting or frying it is one of -if not the best tasting also so moist-deliciously amazing
My best Thanksgiving tip is for pumpkin pie. After making the pie filling, place the mix in your microwave for a few mins to start it to barely warm. Then pour into your pie shell. The pie will bake quicker and your crust rim will not get dark.
Thank you Tawra. I really wish I liked sweet potatoes, I've tried them every possible way. Nope, don't like them but your dish looks delicious. I am going to try cooking my turkey your way this year. I've never made my gravy from the giblets, I just use the turkey drippings. Learn something new all the time with your videos:) And I love the idea of adding sausage to my stuffing, thank you.
I first heard about the turkey-breast-down idea from Emeril Lagasse!! ☺️ Definetly makes it better!! Great job!! Thank you for reaching out to all these young uns who have no idea! Mike is hilarious as usual!! 🌿 We saw some beautiful tom turkeys when we were at an Air B&B for our honeymoon. Gods creation is so wonderful!! I guess I won’t complain when I have problems with my Lives! 😂 You guys are troopers for sure!
If you bake the giblet in with the turkey it comes out really tender and you dont have extra work checking to see if you need to add more water every so often and save on energy
Tawra, I have a rack in my roasting pan and noticed you didn’t use one. Would it make the breast dry out? Not sure if I should use it or keep the turkey face down in its juices? I appreciate your help.
I have my turkey thawing in the fridge for Christmas. It will just be the 3 of us. I’m going to try the simple turkey recipe. I’m sure it will be delicious because I use your cookbooks for almost every meal and they are all good. I’m wondering if I take the foil or lid off the roaster as for the last 10-20 minutes if it would crisp up the outside. What do you think?
Will the turkey come out the same if it is cooked in an electric roasting pan instead of the oven? This all looked so easy that I think I'm going to try making my own pie instead of paying so much at the store this year. I remember seeing you set the oven on fire, but it was so funny to see it again!! Thanks for walking us through your recipes.
I have said this over, and over, and over, this turkey roasting method works so very well. Unlike Tawra I use a lot of spices, anf such, but.... It is delicious, juicy, tender (I could eat it without my teeth) lol. It works for chicken, beef, pig, etc. Give it a try, you won't be sorry
If you want a lower calorie/fat version of the broccoli salad, substitute low fat/fat free Greek yogurt (plain) for half of the mayo. I do that to balance out the bacon crumbles I add. 😜
Oh, oh! Have you ever tried to use any of those molds that give you really pretty edges on pies? If yes, do you have any recommendations about which kinds work best?
I'm learning how to draw. And I have a handicap. I have strabismus, my eyes don't focus, and my depth perception is completely gone. But I'm doing ok. I found a sketch book. My one neighbor has a handicap too. He has something that makes his hands shake (trimmer).

Oh the good old days. Makes me miss your lives more than ever. They were so fun 😊
I nearly had a breakdown trying to make a pie crust 36 years ago. Haven’t tried again since then. 😂 I was pregnant at the time.
LOL
I’ve made the turkey this way for the last couple years and it is so easy and delicious!
It really is!
That roaster is a gem
Such a great video!!

We peel potatoes in exactly the opposite direction! Wow!

Classic Indeed. I usually don't have that much activity in the kitchen, but it was fun to watch the control you guys had! lol Glenda
Glad you enjoyed it!
We do turkey the same way only we salt and pepper the skin too
Thank you for this channel! I like the instructional content. It makes me think I may just be capable of making a pie crust. 🤔😅
You can do it!
2019 dinner lol!!!
Tawra, I have a rack in my roasting pan and noticed you didn’t use one. Would it make the breast dry out? Not sure if I should use it or keep the turkey face down in its juices? I appreciate your help.
You answered in the live. No to the rack!!
Now I want to bake an apple pie tomorrow 😂
❤️❤️❤️

YEs it will I take it off the last hour if I want a crispy skin.
Well, locally made pumpkin pie is $3.97 (regular price) for big pie, where I am in Canada, at one particular grocery shop.
Wow! Canadian prices are very inexpensive.
Costco pumpkin pie is 5.99. delicious and a huge pie!
That was hilarious!!
Will the turkey come out the same if it is cooked in an electric roasting pan instead of the oven? Do you start the potatoes in hot or cold water? I’ve always been told to use cold water as it’s a root vegetable!
cold.
Hope you don’t burn anything this year Tawra 😝
I love your apron!! Could you, please, tell me where you got it from? I would like to order one for my daughter.
Here you go: amzn.to/46eGdSC
I wonder how long to cook a 12 pound turkey and how much butter. Our family is very small.
1 stick. 8-12 hrs.
No salt, pepper, or other seasonings on or in the turkey?
I didn't get a neck this year either!
People that have high blood pressure use salt substitute instead of salt
Tawra, this actually showed up in my feed. Immediately liked.
People with high blood pressure use salt substitute instead of salt
How do you prevent the turkey breast from sticking to the bottom of the pan? Sometimes its ok but other times it sticks 😢
Never ever had that happen.
I tried the overnight turkey method but messed up turning it down to 150 so it's only 160 degrees now. 😂 what to do now?
Turn it up to 200 and you should be fine.
I'm learning how to draw. And I have a handicap. I have strabismus, my eyes don't focus, and my depth perception is completely gone. But I'm doing ok. I found a sketch book. My one neighbor has a handicap too. He has something that makes his hands shake (trimmer).
Can you please make a low sodium thanksgiving dinner
Just use less salt and it's less sodium or use low salt versions of what she's using.
No seasoning on the turkey at all
So you tasted the gravy 4 times and stuck the same spoon back in the gravy. Kinda gross.
Well if my husband is ok with kissing me I'm sure he's ok with with a 1/2 drop of spit put back into boiling gravy that proceeds to sterilize it.
