You hit the nail right on the head. Owning a gun, whether CCW or home defense, carries along with responsibility of practicing and firearms maintenance.
Glad you liked this video... It was actually one of our first Tactical Rifleman Videos. We filmed it day-2, down in my Man Room. Unfortunately, it doesn't get many views, because we didn't have much of a following back then. I feel strongly about this subject and really wish I could get the word out more. I'm thinking about freezing this video, locking it, and then re-releasing it so more people will see it. What do you think? Should I do it?
Tactical Rifleman I am thinking a follow-up video to this. We are now in the post-Obama era where price of ammo have dropped a lot which should encourage more range time. In addition, not only do we have to deal with criminals, we are seeing more active shooters across the country. I think you can add more and expand from this current video. I wish you continued success and increasing followers.
@@TacticalRifleman Yes Karl! Re-release it or shoot a new one/follow up video. Especially with all of the new gun owners when this comment is being posted 5-1-20 (COVID19)
Every time I have to renew my CCW, during the shooting portion of the class, the other shooters will remark at how good my grouping is. The really scary thing is, I’m not at all that good... they’re all just really that bad! The bulk of them only shoot their weapons for qualifying. 😳
Great video. Not only are there too many overconfident & undertrained gun carriers, but I've also met a lot of people who have a gun purely to "scare away" attackers. They don't intend to ever use it (sometimes not even loading it), but think that just pulling it out and waving it around will make people run away.
This guy couldn't be more right. Now a days everyone's heads are buried into their phones. You need to always be aware of your surroundings. Be prepared. Be alert.
That is so true. I've seen people at the range that I hope will never carry. Unfortunatley I live in NJ so I probably won't either till I move. Great video. Thanks
A couple of years later, everyone is talking about concealed carry and such but I'd bet at least half who are carrying now think that just having the gun makes them safer. You 100% correct in my book. You're either helping or you're hurting.
This is an excellent video production. Not just the content... that's a no-brainer. But, the lighting, the presentation, etc. Very well done. (I was wondering the same thing, about the portrait in the background.)
Thanks for the kind words; we do have a great production crew. This was actually filmed in my Man Cave. I got Saddam's portrait from one of his palaces, during the initial invasion of Iraq. He didn't need it any more and it looks good on my wall. Thanks for watching. We put out a new video every Friday. So, stay tuned and Subscribe. Strength & Honor, TR.
Here's the problem with my local ranges - they forbid drawing from the holster! Trying to minimize NDs I guess. I practice a lot of drawing from AIWB concealment and presentation and dry firing with a snap cap then decocking, reholstering, repeat repeat etc (DA/SA HK P30SK) at home. At the range, the best I can do is go from a low retention position, presenting, and shooting. I should probably get something like a Mantis X10 and a light-bearing AIWB holster from Blackpoint or whoever to accommodate the X10 unit on the rail. More than one way to skin a cat.
I am a new police officer and I’m blown away at the training and words of wisdom from these instructors ! I completely agree with what Karl is saying about don’t carry if you’re not going to train with it. Wow ! What else can I say ? You spoke it clear as crystal ! I can’t get enough of these tips and training !
I always quiz my wife when we are walking around or out on a date how many people she saw carrying open or concealed or if she saw knives. Training her to be observant at all times. its a good game to play when on a date....
Couldn’t agree more. No practice, no carry. Be responsible. Ammo high cost - dry fire, drill, drill, drill. Work on basics slowly and increase speed as your form improves.
Lately my range visits have dropped maybe once every few months now but I'm still taking an annual pistol class and constantly dry fire training ect. I bought that mantis system it works well to keep my finger control sharp but hopefully ammo in my area will come down soon and the ranges will clear up. The main problem were I live is the million plus new gun owners are all trying to shoot their new guns snd the ranges are not only packed but filled with people who have never shot a gun before.
100% agree, if you aren't trained, you are a liability. Force on force (even just buying two blowback gas airsoft pistols) is important to experience at least once to really be prepared. Not only do well thought out and acted situations reveal just how low situational awareness we often have, it also helps us realize that one factor that we rarely train for is moving off the line of fire and to cover. There are tons of guys who just get frozen in place when they get attacked, which sometimes works, but often it is important to stay mobile. Other things we don't normally think about like timing also comes into play on force on force that doesn't on the range.
Could not agree more. There is a younger guy that comes to our weekly training classes at the local range that carries a CZP10c with an RMR and a surefire weapon light. I consistently beat him in all of our timed events, both speed and accuracy. I shoot a Ruger 9mm American compact. Bought it, immediately put 1000 rounds through it. It will make you a better marksman.
Buffalo shooter vid taught me that whether armed or unarmed, if you have no SA, you're dead. Indiana mall shooting taught me that SA and practice can lead to an 80% hit rate at 40yds with a glock.
True words of experienced wisdom. The only thing I can claim expertise in is my own life. In my experience, one of the most (if not the most) effective defensive and offensive weapons a man can possess, resides between his ears.
If you aren’t going to be safe, don’t carry. I don’t care what your experience is, you better be obeying basic safety rules...... Be an asset, not a liability. Another great video!
I just wish ammo wasn't so expensive, I used to go to the range once or twice a week. Now I'm lucky if I can get there once a month. I can't get down lower than a certain amount of ammo, without having enough to use it for it's intended purposes, if God forbid things get as bad as I think they could. But I dry fire the shit out of my guns, and run more drills because of that fact. Because there's no noise, I can practice as much as I want without disturbing neighbors. The dry firing and weapon manipulations and drills actually help alot! I can still get the bullets where it counts with live fire drills. Only now I practice alot more of the things I wasn't at a range that doesn't allow it. For that I've actually become a better, faster, more accurate, and flexible shooter. But I definitely agree, if you bought a gun and went to the range once or twice, then carry it thinking your squared away. Just leave it at home, because you have to be able to hit your target, and do it under stress!🤜🤛🇺🇲🇺🇲
Excellent, and I'm in the same boat. I have a "Laser Ammo" cartridge for dry fire practice. I do that regularly, every couple of weeks at least. It still doesn't help with recoil management, but it's great for weapon access and trigger operation. I'd like to say I get to the range monthly, but I'm not even that regular. We sure did though, usually twice weekly, and I have many thousands of rounds through my and my wife's pistols. We even learned that the Sig P238 has to have its recoil spring replaced about every 1500 rounds, and Sig will ship them to you free. We should practice with our pistols enough that wearing out a recoil spring is an issue!
My holster is a cheap uncle Mike's iwb for twenty dollars, I shoot twice a week and I dry fire daily. Im not high-speed I'm just as dumbass civilian. I enjoyed this video to thank you.
I carry and licensed i do practice even though not enough ammo once a month i do dry fire and trying to get my sister to get out to shoot her 9mm! Help me with my sister

Funny thing, today I got into argument with my sister, she threatened me that if I didn´t stop wearing conceal carry on me (loaded) she would call the police and tell them that I´m psycho with the gun. (I´m 25 years old and I never got into a fist fight with anyone. by the way) :D :D :D
