I just caught this eoisode. Dr. Zawislak was the guest speaker at my bee club meeting last week. His presentation on swarming was super informative and entertaining. He mentioned his friendship with David. Thank you both for being so generous with your time and knowledge.
I just ordered Dr. Z and your book. I'm in Arkansas as well so I think it will be helpful. I prefer books over PDFs. Doing gardening so I will watch this later.
Sir, I use a bucket feeder placed on top of an inner cover with #8 hardware cloth removed. Block the vent slot on the outer edge of the inner cover if you have one. Like your Burns Feeder, place a deep on top with an inner cover with hardware cloth, then cover with outer cover. Works well. My challenge post honey harvest is robbers and yellow jackets/wasps. Lots of issues last season with jackets impacting my apiary.
If you want bees... and you're up for it, put your name on the swarm removal list of your local / state beekeeping association. I get about two calls a week during peak swarm season. Some swarms are tiny, some are humongous... but you'll get bees!
I built 5 flow hives this year , I’m getting ready to put bees in them next week, I’m probably not going to put the supers on this year, but I built all 5 flow hives completely set up with frames ready to go for about $1,500 , when I saw the prices on them I thought it would be a crime considering I’ve been a woodworker for 43 years and keeping bees since 1971 , I think it’s a great idea for people that only want a few colonies but on a large scale I would say it’s got too many moving parts to sustain on a large scale and the frames alone cost me a few hundred bucks
Tried to watch live but the snowfall was heavy and interrupted the satellite internet. There was around 5" when I fired up the semi at 3am. Winter hasn't loosened its grip here in Wisconsin yet. Great guest and thanks for sending out his pocket guide with one of the orders we got from you.
David I noticed yesterday the sun is a little bit brighter than normal but my hives are still in the shade. Do they prefer being more in a sunny area I still can’t open my hives it’s less than 30° thank you Charlie PA great live video last night.
Help!!!!! the David Burns winter bees of winter physiology makes Monster March colonies. Queen cells in almost all of my colonies. Only had 10 colonies but not I have seventeen after splits. I have 3 more inspections to do. Thank God for rain today to slow them down. Looking at 20 plus colonies in 2023. Can I get a David Burns you did that sticker for my hive boxes?
Tho studying, following bee keeping 2 decades, now able to start my own! Love watching ur channel Dave! I feel like I'm learning at a low stress level..ur a natural teacher! Great job & have learned so much. My first hive here in coastal NC is a flow hive fr Australia. Waiting to get my 3 frame nuc any day now. My yd is full of magnolia, bay tree, & honeysuckle blooms plus clover, & wild sourwood. Cant wait to try the honey fr these. Thanks for ur videos.
Sorry I missed the live show. I bought two Flowhives to start. What a mistake. I should have spent the money on more equipment not just two hives. I did get three suits and the tools including a smoker.
@@beek I'm not impressed, yet it could be that I'm new to beekeeping. The bees took a long time to start working the Flowhive cells. What they put in the flowhive cells was mostly crystalized sugar and a tiny amount of honey. I did not feed this hive with any sugar water so I think there was drift from the hive next door.

I have peach flavored honey with a hint of vanilla, it’s from the Catalpa Trees:)) it tastes like the flowers smell.

I'm still without Bees, but learning what I can and building swarm traps.

Oh man. Just like hive talk with David and Jon. That podcast should be for every beginner. Too bad I'm still not a great beekeeper...

We are expecting 8" of snow, today through tomorrow. A couple weeks of 30°s left, then on to warmer temps.
How about the generic flow hive on Amazon? I’ve read multiple positive reviews.
Dr. Jon Z is great!
Good job guys, keep it up

That is too funny!!! My method does work!!
If you can’t find the queen how do you keep them from swarming to get a big honey harvest?
Darn it. Did I miss the show, just got home from work.
So sad i missed the live stream 😢. Hello now anyway!!

I'm still having trouble with losing hives. Every time I add another brood box all my bees die. Usually I get wax moths

Have the Flowhives lived up to their hype?

Still like to know if I can feed my honey to my bees.
