- Full version, but with sheet music put in where video was originally edited out. It's better than getting the short version. You're welcome!
Playing this back at 1.25 speed tremendously improves the performance lol
Take the CD conducted by Sir Simon Rattle from 1994. This version is better and very impressing. The best version I heard^^
I didn't believe you until I tried it!
I just did it at x2😂😂😂
Great performance. Love me some John Adams
SFO sounds and looks GREAT!
Gives me goosebumps. Magnificent!
when I lived in San Francisco I heard this performed by Michael Tilson Thomas. It is wonderful !
Stunning
This is a brilliant performance. I don't mind the 'slower than normally performed' tempo because the orchestra is remarkably accurate. I've seen this performed once about the same tempo, but not as accurate (I will not name the orchestra or conductor).
Amazing!
This is a piece I hear often. The first time I heard it was performed on a football field. Since then, play it fast and accurate.
What are you saying?
thank you! Just got the boosey & hawkes score and I was going kookoo following the short version and wondering where the hell the rest of the music went.
what's the percussion instrument at 0:16?
wood block instrument
Well, it's a Jam Block which is a modern version of the wood block.
Am I the only one that is perfectly fine with this tempo??
kinda "grooves"
Yes….
most likely...
This is nice but it sounds like a different piece of music lol
It is not so much the tempo, comrades: it is the playing behind the beat, the dragging, what makes this a poor version. My two cents
Its a bloody great version. Have played it many times.. Played it at this tempo and at a faster one (marked) but this tempo makes so much more sense musically.
Long ride in a slow ass machine lol this interpretation is so SLOW
it's a bit slow but the precision is rewarding.
This is so slow. Drags so much
Try this one! ua-cam.com/video/WELh2Ij5ulg/v-deo.html
Agree!
the copy repeat function of scoring programs have ruined music. Not a melody to hold on to, just effects and atmosphere. but hey, we can get out hours of music in a few days. Thank God for Goldsmith and Williams types.
Well, this is neo-minimal music. If at all, this accusation of yours could be made against Philip Glass, mind you, but not so much against Adams. Jerry Goldsmith (whom I GREATLY admire) and Williams work in a different field, notmin absolute music, but in film music. Comparing them to Adams is like comparing apples with oranges.
Who said music had to have a melody to be good? Pretty out of touch there, George.
I so disagree, George. As almost everything, it can be used for good or for bad. Philippe Glass will send you to sleep in 2 minutes no matter what he does if you do not put a movie behind. this piece by Adams, on the contrary (when played on top of the beat, not this version!) is perfectly written in form and orchestration. Melody is God, but we do not always need it, not 100% of the times at least...:)
