Yes it is inconsistent in size but it will still burn. There is also need for smaller pieces when you start the fire. If you solely rely on firewood there will be need for larger pieces to use in a furnace to heat the whole hose and smaller pieces in the cooking stove. In my opinion large trees should be used for lumber. After all it is a product that took a long time to grow and should not be used as firewood.
Seems like the product is incosistent in size. Also, how do you handle larger diameter logs that need to be split more than once? Is that done by hand?
@circusboy90210 Yeah. I was thinking about one with the head on its back on a fixed frame and just a power pack. Then drop trees in and let it rip. Also a contraption to adjust the cross knife to always hit in the middle of the log. Let me know your progress!
@pautrask1 well for one would have to see better pictures of the unit. I suppose that the wheels are powered by hydraulilc circuits??? I"m gearing up for a firewood business 2011 winter season can you take pictures up close of one of these units???? my thought hwas exactly as yours but have a backbone to help lift the tree high ehnough to just have the output directly into the bed of an awaiting truck or pile on the wood lot.
Cod you put in some words to search for like Firewood harvester Timberjack log splitter firewood processor Ved skördare ved processor. At least cal is something ells than"PG01_M011.mpg " Like it a lot and want to find it easier ;)
@circusboy90210 I tried to type in machinerytrader but it wouldnt let me post the link. Google 1270 B 1270 C and see what is avaliable. Then all you would have to do is build the knife.
Go find a good used Timberjack 1270B or John Deere 1263 ( both are the same machine) with a 762 C head, and build a knife like in the clip and ....Voila, you have the worlds fastest firewood machine.
@godegarden
Not really any worse than cutting, but the sawmotor needs cooling down time periodically.
@circusboy90210 It is a Timberjack 1270 B with a 762C head and TJ 3000 computer. The splitting knives are not factory.
Yes it is probably the most efficient wood splitter if we count the cost per m³ or cord.

@circusboy90210 It has a 180 hp engine and will use about 14-18 liters per hour.

Yes it is a big advantage to have good reach.
Is it really economically to use a harvester as a wood machin? because the machine is quite thirsty.
@kenfo0 It comforts me to no end that I'm not alone about not being the sharpest ax in the wood shed! :)
@circusboy90210
The prices on the complete unit are down due to slow forestry.
how many horsepower does the unit require to operate?
who makes this??? what's the brand name /model??
simplicity and elegance in design , why even have hydraulic rams etc. think I'll build one
@diggermats24 Yup. I think all have a tie! :)
@kenfo0 Thank you for your very helpful insight!!
@diggermats24
Yup I think all have it :)
@kenfo0 Thank you for sharing your astute insight!
