Just think, everyone. For a short time, before Disney cornered the market and killed off all competition for animation, the fleischer brothers were turning out stuff like this. Trippy, surreal, dark, working with the sort of experimental "out-there" music and artists like Cab Calloway. For a brief time, animation in the west wasn't saccharine pap for families, but this. And it was beautiful. Thanks for bringing us this, it's an amazing remix :)
America just lacked Anime for far too long, where somehow that was considered dorky and nerdy, even though Americans of all ages were welcomed to love American animation. Now we got tons of amazing incredible shows similar to Anime from youth to adult that many love, but many feel animation in general to be simply secluded to the "CHILDISH/CARTOON" figure head... even though cartoons being considered childish... Many could not watch the Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, South Park cartoons for being too adult... Hypocrisy (as they go back to watching shows about crime and murder).
His voice is fantastic, the hip hop beat suits it so well. There's a particular sound in it that I can't explain but it's kind of haunting and melancholy.
WAS YOU???? I FINALLY FOUND THE CREATOR OF THIS AMAZING REMIX i use this music as ending of my videos for a year!!! and I had never found the original video
An amazing amount of effort went into all of this, i would like to thank you harald for creating this, i have played it probably over 50 times over and can now match the pitch perfectly with my voice. It is well crafted and deserves to be enjoyed by all the spawn of man. Great work, big ups.
This is kinda the direction I really want music to go in the future. This is great. I mean, it's sort of obvious that hip hop will have one of the greatest lasting impacts on music. Like rock did before. And this is hip hop but also really different and creative.
Spectacular job re-cutting this, but realize all of the unedited animation is original from like 90 years ago. Pay attention to even the scrolling backgrounds that coordinate with the lyrics. Totally amazing stuff.
I find the tune to be a bit more melancholy than scary, but I can see how some would find this scary. Another remix like this I love and recommend is RaceCarBed's Mr. Sandman.
that's the nature of Trip Hop sometimes. It can be dark, calming, atmospheric, nostalgic, and lots of things associated to what your memories conjure with the sounds and images tied to them.
Dude, that was so fucking awesome and creative! Well done. The break in the middle where it plays back and forth and it looks like the clown is dancing blew my mind. More, more more please. you got the goods
@@Bunny2319b "Disturbing and horrifying because of involvement with or depiction of death or injury" Or, to put it simply, it's disturbing and unsettling.
It is macabre. The song is about a guy visiting his dead girlfriend who died from an STD and now he knows he’ll probably be dying to and is singing about how he wants his funeral to be. The animation and background artwork are also macabre taking into account the tone and subject of the song
Folks, I'm goin' down to St. James Infirmary, See my baby there; She's stretched out on a long, white table, She's so sweet, so cold, so fair. Let her go, let her go, oh, bless her, Wherever she may be, She will search this wide world over, (AAHH) But she'll never find another sweet man like me. Now when I die, bury me in my straight-leg britches, Put on a box-back coat and a stetson hat, Put a twenty-dollar gold piece on my watch chain, So you can let all the boys know I died standing pat. Then give me six crap shooting pall bearers, Let a chorus girl sing me a song. Put a red hot jazz band at the top of my head So we can raise Hallelujah as we go along. Folks, now that you have heard my story, Say, boy, hand me another shot of that booze Give me six crap shooting pall bearers Give me six crap shooting pall bearers Give me six crap shooting pall bearers Give me six crap shooting pall bearers
This video is intense. Freaking love it. I wonder if this was really really well edited from the cartoon, or just drawn for the purpose this video. Incredibly surreal animation, and fitted great to the music.
As the other has said, this is The Death of Betty Boop, amazing editing they did on this video and song. It's synced perfectly with the original! Putting that amazing voice of Cab Calloway front and center.
Cab was a nut. I wish he was active in the late 60's because his already hilariously insane demeanor would thrive with LSD. Fuckin love the guy. Just watch videos of him he's wild
I'm going down to Saint James Infirmary. Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeee my baby there? She's stretched out on a long white table. She's so sweet, so cold, so fair...

This song really resonates with me for some reason I can't explain it.
5 Months later and I'm still listening to this song every few days.

Its been 7 years?? GEEEZZZ
The animation on the clown looks more fluid than most of what Pixar makes today
You’re right! Probably because the original animators rotoscoped Cab Calloway’s actual dancing moves.
